Many of us can spare a box.

My brother has a lot, but he said he can not ship it because its illegal. He lives in San Antonio.

Its not me that got down to 6, its my DH who thinks he can just run to the store and buy a box. One box of 20 is a lot for him. Bless his dear heart he is so smart about some things but a dumb ass about others. its like you can't pound sand. I've had my supply for what I have for years. Oh, that's right I lost it in a row boat accident trying to cross the Mississippi in New Orleans.

Yep, UPS or Fedex Ground with an "ORM-D" marking on the outside of the box. No extra fees over ground shipping cost.

I just picked up 5 boxes of Frontier 5.56 NATO 75 gr BTHP Match for $1/rd. I know that’s expensive, but the higher grain projectiles are always expensive. There’s a limit of 5 boxes per 24 hrs. I intend to pick up 2-3 more 5-boxes if I can.

ETA: All my ARs are 1:7 twist. I’ve never shot other than 55 gr through them.

Midway has Hornady/Frontier (same company) xm193 5.56NATO ammo (1000rd cases) for $580 plus shipping (58 cents per round) in stock now. Note that this is 1000 rounds of bulk ammo in a strong plastic bag inside a cardboard box.

This is the same price as the IMI in post#1 and that is real mil-spec ammo. The IMI costs more per case because there are 1200 rounds in the case, but it's 30 rounds per small normal cardboard box. Once the IMI sells out (still in stock now), then consider this ammo if you really need 223 FMJ at today's crazy ammo prices.

He was mechanic in France before Vietnam heated up, he got out in ‘64, so no he did not see combat.

Both brands of m193 223 are still in stock at Midway. Perhaps people really aren't going to continue to buy at this price? It would be nice to see a stop to this ammo price inflation. The IMI (mil-spec 55gr FMJ) has been in stock for at least a whole 36 hours now.

Even 40 is not that available anymore especially the cheaper FMJ/plinking rounds. Buck a round JHP is available though. 40 stayed commonly available longer than 9mm then 45acp, but also sold out locally and mostly online. I checked ammoseek and 52 cents a round was the cheapest 40 listed (remanufactured FMJ).

I originally read it (incorrectly) as he had never used 55gr FMJ in a 1:7 barrel and was spending more to buy heavier match hollowpoint rounds. 55gr FMJ is standard AR fodder here.

You should be good up to 80gr BTHP with a 1:7 twist barrel.

I bought some of the heavier 75/77gr HPBT bullets in the past, but haven't loaded or tested any yet.
