Thank for the heads up, DH needed 9mm and they were in stock and my order went through. Hope he doesn't notice the total, it was $75 for two boxes, thats 40 shells. He only had 6 shells left and had not been able to find any. He still doesn't quite understand the shortages now and worse in the future.

I sure hope that was defensive rounds you paid that much for, ball ammo is expensive but not that expensive.

It was 9mm, 108 grain hollow point. No clue what that means. I got two boxed at 29 and change, plus 10 something shipping, plus 2 something in tax. I figured it was better than nothing which is pretty much what he has, he paid for it, I did not.

Midway has been running free shipping on orders over $49, not sure if it covers ammo and how much longer it’s in effect.

I think as this forum goes if your ever down to 6 rounds you should say something.
Many of us can spare a box.

EDIT: I have no personal experience with this website, but they're showing some ammo in stock, but most is out of stock. Seacamp32's thread lead me to search their site for more ammo available.

This place shows Federal 223 FMJ 100rd boxes for $70, max of 4. Free shipping if order is over $100.

They also have 45acp 230gr FMJ Blazer Brass for $30 per box of 50, limit of 20

They have 9mm 115gr FMJ blazer brass for $18 per box of 50, limit of 4 (originally found by Seacamp32 here: GUNS/RLTD - 9mm Blazer Brass available now)

My brother has a lot, but he said he can not ship it because its illegal. He lives in San Antonio.

Its not me that got down to 6, its my DH who thinks he can just run to the store and buy a box. One box of 20 is a lot for him. Bless his dear heart he is so smart about some things but a dumb ass about others. its like you can't pound sand. I've had my supply for what I have for years. Oh, that's right I lost it in a row boat accident trying to cross the Mississippi in New Orleans.

Why would it be illegal to ship? Maybe with the post office or some crap like that.
Ups or FedEx ground. That's how it's gets shipped to me. Might just technically need an ormd label though.

Yep, UPS or Fedex Ground with an "ORM-D" marking on the outside of the box. No extra fees over ground shipping cost.

BUMP, Midway still has the IMI m193 in stock 24 hours later..... See first post for details.

Also, the 100rd boxes of Federal 223 mentioned in the post above are still in stock. For someone who doesn't want 1200 rounds, up to four 100rd boxes might be a decent option.

Obviously your hubby has never been in a firefight. He should talk to some combat veterans ! They can explain to him how quick one goes through ammo in a combat firefight situation !

I just picked up 5 boxes of Frontier 5.56 NATO 75 gr BTHP Match for $1/rd. I know that’s expensive, but the higher grain projectiles are always expensive. There’s a limit of 5 boxes per 24 hrs. I intend to pick up 2-3 more 5-boxes if I can.

ETA: All my ARs are 1:7 twist. I’ve never shot other than 55 gr through them.

Midway has Hornady/Frontier (same company) xm193 5.56NATO ammo (1000rd cases) for $580 plus shipping (58 cents per round) in stock now. Note that this is 1000 rounds of bulk ammo in a strong plastic bag inside a cardboard box.

This is the same price as the IMI in post#1 and that is real mil-spec ammo. The IMI costs more per case because there are 1200 rounds in the case, but it's 30 rounds per small normal cardboard box. Once the IMI sells out (still in stock now), then consider this ammo if you really need 223 FMJ at today's crazy ammo prices.

He was mechanic in France before Vietnam heated up, he got out in ‘64, so no he did not see combat.

Both brands of m193 223 are still in stock at Midway. Perhaps people really aren't going to continue to buy at this price? It would be nice to see a stop to this ammo price inflation. The IMI (mil-spec 55gr FMJ) has been in stock for at least a whole 36 hours now.

I think ammo has reached financial equilibrium. In other words what it costs has finally reached the point people can’t justify buying it.
$750 for a box of ammo is a bug nut to chew, too big for many.
Even $600 is a lot of money... when 1200 rounds costs more than the rifle to shoot it we have hit peak ammo.

For now, maybe.

It all hinges on the election.

Remember the prices after Sandyhook?

If you have little ammo, it's a seller's market.

Get a .40.
Even 40 is not that available anymore especially the cheaper FMJ/plinking rounds. Buck a round JHP is available though. 40 stayed commonly available longer than 9mm then 45acp, but also sold out locally and mostly online. I checked ammoseek and 52 cents a round was the cheapest 40 listed (remanufactured FMJ).

delete - I read Dennis's post wrong. He agrees 55gr FMJ is OK in 1:7 barrels.

Yep, been doing it forever too. No issues.
I originally read it (incorrectly) as he had never used 55gr FMJ in a 1:7 barrel and was spending more to buy heavier match hollowpoint rounds. 55gr FMJ is standard AR fodder here.

back to griping about ammo availability and pricing :)

It’s the “common AR fodder” everywhere. I wanted some match-grade ammo, that’s more compatible with a 1:7 twist. I have ton of 55 gr, a bunch of 62 gr green tip, but wanted to try 75 gr.

You should be good up to 80gr BTHP with a 1:7 twist barrel.

I know. But the 80 gr rds get really expensive. I’m shocked to get the 75’s @ 96¢ a rd. That’s only a few cents higher than the “before time.” (I know, because I’ve wanted 75’s for several years. Just couldn’t justify the cost. Finally said “f’it.”

No worries Boss.
Ask the three bastards that were shot by the kid in Kenosha if they were hit by 55 or 80 grain projectiles.
Two will refuse to hazard a guess.

I bought some of the heavier 75/77gr HPBT bullets in the past, but haven't loaded or tested any yet.
