Mayor: Numerous Shooting Scenes, Victims In Monroe County, Pennsylvania

TOBYHANNA, PA – Police were responding to multiple shooting scenes in Monroe County, Pennsylvania Monday night.

“Rapid gunfire was reported in A Pocono Country Place, at the Dollar General store in Tobyhanna, at Stoogies on Route 196, and at multiple locations,” said Michael Penn, Mayor of Mount Pocono. “Currently, there are 4 known victims at 4 or 5 crimes scenes. Please consider this a developing community safety danger.”
Some residents in the area were ordered to shelter-in-place.

Dollar General Store Manager Nicole Hull told WNEP she rushed a customer to safety when gunfire broke out and then heard “about 15-20 shots more.”

“It was scary. I’m used to living next to a gun range so, in my head, it’s oh, it’s the gun range, but in reality. It was right next to us and it started in our parking lot and then migrated over there,” Hull told the station.

Multiple law enforcement agencies were called in to help. The shooter(s) remain at large.
Due to several shooting incidents in the area, Police are asking those on the 196 corridor between Pocono Country Place and Pocono Farms East to shelter in place. Report any suspicious activity.

Yeah I hope it's the "usual suspects"- but last time it was a white special forces guy- - - and repeated shootings anywhere are getting me twitchy these days.

Tobyhanna is essentially the hood. The shit got imported from nyc 20 years ago and has just festered ever since.
When I was younger it was a very rural area...but now it's mostly newer homes with all NYC people. Several buses run everyday to New York to take the people to work. Hate to say it but with the influx of people the crimes and the drugs have skyrocketed!

Investigators in Monroe County, Pa. provided ah update on a series of shooting incidents that prompted a shelter in place on Jan. 18, 2021.

TOBYHANNA, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- At least four people were injured Monday in a string of shootings that prompted a shelter-in-place order for some residents north of Mount Pocono, authorities said.

Mount Pocono Borough Mayor Michael Penn posted on Facebook that there were four or five crime scenes Monday night and "multiple police forces at this time in the Coolbaugh/Tobyhanna areas."

The Monroe County Office of Emergency Management tweeted at about 8:48 p.m. that residents "on the 196 corridor between Pocono Country Place and Pocono Farms East" should shelter in place and report any suspicious activity. In a separate statement, the office said no suspects had been arrested.

During a press conference on Monday night, police confirmed at least four people were injured following multiple shooting incidents.

Police located multiple victims at the first reported shooting near A Pocono Country Place. A second shooting was reported at the Tobyhanna Shopping Center, followed by a third shooting with a victim by Kings Way and State Route 196 and a fourth shooting nearby with another victim, the office said.

The victims' conditions weren't immediately known.

No suspects have been arrested, but police confirmed persons of interest were being questioned.

The shelter in place order remains in effect.

No Amish in the Poconos. Poconos is Northern Pa. It's pretty much filled with New Yorkers and people from New Jersey now. It's just a 2 hour drive from New York City. Lots of crime now a days. The Amish are Southern Pa. Lancaster area.
Euphemism for yard apes, porch monkies, you know the usual crime suspects...

"Amish" is a term of sarcasm often used to refer to certain high crime minority groups and/or an ethnic group of a specific religious tribe who have been known to cause havoc in White Gentile Western cultures........

About 35 years ago I was warned this was going to happen.

  • Laron Watson, 22, a male from Tobyhanna, charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment, hindering apprehension, corruption of minors, various weapons charges.
  • Jahlayah Blondell, 20, a female from Tobyhanna, charged with hindering apprehension.
