POL Marjorie Taylor Greene Launches America First Movement Against Trump on Foreign Wars

Sometimes "absolutes" just don't work. I personally detest wars having been in one. However, should we have stayed out of WWII and allowed Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany take over the world?
This current "war" with Iran has been long simmering with generations of politicians whistling past the grave yard. Then, Shazaam, we hear that the crazies in Iran are very close to having a nuclear weapon. Should we just sit back and twiddle our thumbs?

I don't like the haphazard way this war is being prosecuted, but I'm not going to slouch away and mumble about never voting again.

Those in the picture are sore losers because they didn't get their way. Sometimes events overtake good intentions.

All they are in my opinion are

Tucker Carlson, Who Broke With Trump, Plans to ‘Help Build a Third Party’

Tucker Carlson, the influential conservative media commentator, said in an interview that he planned to help start a new political party after leaving the Republican Party, but that he had no interest in running for office.

Mr. Carlson, a former close ally of President Trump who has broken with the Republican Party over the war with Iran, told the Columbia Journalism Review that he was “going to help build a third party.”

“There should be a good-faith effort to figure out what benefits the country,” Mr. Carlson said in an interview with the Columbia Journalism Review published Wednesday.

He outlined his plans at a moment of upheaval for both parties: The insurgent left appears ascendant in the Democratic Party as the base has grown angry over the party leadership’s stance on Israel since the war in Gaza. The Republican Party has been fractured by Mr. Trump’s handling of the war with Iran.

Mr. Carlson, a popular podcaster and former Fox News host, said last month that he was leaving the Republican Party. He described himself on a podcast episode as a “consistent defender” of the party for 35 years, but said that he believed the party had lost touch with “America first” principles under Mr. Trump.

In the Columbia Journalism Review interview, he described some of the policies that might animate his new party, saying he supports “ending all immigration.” A longtime nativist and immigration hard-liner prone to conspiratorial views, Mr. Carlson said immigration drives unemployment. (Many economists say it does not.)

He also argued that the two parties did not offer a sufficient contrast on “war and finance.”

“That’s not a democracy,” Mr. Carlson told the Columbia Journalism Review. “That’s a one-party state posing as a democracy, and it needs to be broken, and there’s going to be a third party, and I’m going to do everything I can to bring that about.”

Mr. Carlson was often at Mr. Trump’s side during his 2024 presidential campaign and pushed Mr. Trump to select JD Vance, then a senator from Ohio, as his running mate.

But he broke sharply with the president after the United States started the war with Iran in late February, declaring Mr. Trump was violating a core campaign promise to avoid foreign conflicts. By April, Mr. Carlson said he was “tormented” by his past support for the president.

He told the Columbia Journalism Review that he had not spoken to Mr. Trump since the start of the war, which has been largely paused by a fragile cease-fire.
“I’m not interested in talking to him,” Mr. Carlson told the publication.

In the past, Mr. Carlson’s relationship with Mr. Trump has been revived after rocky stretches. In a text surfaced by a defamation lawsuit filed by Dominion Voting Systems, Mr. Carlson wrote of Mr. Trump, “I hate him passionately.” (Mr. Carlson was fired by Fox News after it agreed to pay $787.5 million to resolve the case, which centered on the network’s promotion of 2020 election misinformation.)
But Mr. Carlson’s frequent, forceful public criticism of Mr. Trump since the war began has led to some speculation that he might be angling for his own run for office.

Mr. Carlson told the Columbia Journalism Review that he was not entertaining the idea, and he insisted he did not see himself as a competitor to Mr. Trump.

“I’m not a politician, that’s for sure,” Mr. Carlson told the publication. “I’m not a rival to Trump for power. I have no power. I’m someone who knows Trump, and I know him well, and I’ve known him for a long time.”

Can’t stand Tucker. He reminds me of Cackles … only better spoken

Because a lot of them are flip flopping to the DSA ... democratic socialists. They went from the democratic party to the republican party. They weren't happy in short order so then they flip flopped around and now are taking a dive over to the DSA thinking they'll give them what they want. I'm much more worried about the DSA than I am about the group of pandering wannabes in the OP. I can't stand the kind of "I'm taking my ball and going home" kinda of behavior they are exhibiting.

Why couldn't they get their messages across?
The message has gotten across. This whole movement has legs because the message is loud and clear. The Massie election shenanigans solidified the fracture. I'm not sure why the neocon right continues to ostracize the dissent. They need to recognize the fracture, the reason for the fracture and if they truly care about this country 50 years from now, they will figure out how to bring unity instead of facing an American First 3rd party in 2028.

Just a question. How many do you know? No snark at all.

For my anecdotal evidence, I have almost daily contact with cohorts of that age group from across the country.

The vast majority are not swinging to DSA. The centrists, and many of what would be classified as the old school “blue dog” democrats are repulsed by their idiocy. Almost all are choosing to not vote as they are not represented, and feel that their vote does not matter (which let’s be honest, policy wise, it doesn’t). They are perfectly content sitting out and letting Boomercon Inc duke it out with DSA and dealing with the “winner” after the fact.

They also feel politically homeless and will be joining the 45 and under crowd of Conservatives.

This is what makes this new political movement so intriguing. Never in the history of our country has there been such a large population of disenfranchised voters.

Political science as an academic discipline is getting rewritten in real time. It is fascinating.

History has some examples of what this leads to. An astute reader or scholar will understand what comes next.

Is there a 'base' any more?

The Union has been severed, and it's lots of tiny bleeding chunks this time.

Not nearly as simple as last time, Yankees vs. the Patriots.

Wait, that's baseball...
(Sorry, my South was showing...)

Yankees vs. the Confederates.

When the fit hits the shan, it's going to be like Europe before the Catholics showed up. Messy.

Rely on the training, and buckle up.

Buttercup.

Love y'all.

Trump can’t run again.
They believe Democrats are in disarray.
They see structural weakness in the MAGA brand because of war and relationship with Israel.

They want to take control but there isnt a leader among them . . . Unless that is why they started calling him . . . MR Carlson

I absolutely agree. And they have a headstart compared to Ross Perot in 1992.
Plus the voters are more p!ssed off now than back then. I believe it can happen; they can win elections on this platform.

The war with Iran has cost about $150 billion already, and the military has just requested another $36 or so billion to continue the new lost cause.

People are sick of driving on chewed up roads and worrying about whether bridges and electrical grids will hold up long enough to continue being of service. Something's got to give.

In your view. And your views are plain given what you post on other threads. The message that got across was insufficient for them to do anything while they had the power to do something. Now they are looking to regain power and audience. I doubt they have what it takes since they haven't had what it takes up to this point.

Not to be rude but a hear a lot of people call him Tucker the *ucker. He'll never make a front man because of his background and connections. Then there is the fact that he alienates more people than he brings together. That's the problem with almost all of them. Heck, even Putin pointed out the obvious with Tucker. He's got way too much in his past that will destroy any planks he tries to turn into a stable platform.

How many of who? If you mean flip floppers from dem to repub to DSA then way too many unfortunately. Tampa is a huge university town and they are all over the place ... USF, UT, all the private small specialty colleges, HCC and that's only in Hillsborough County. Once you take in the entirety of the Tampa Bay area you get a lot of that age group/interest.

And then add into the retiree areas. Yeah, we have our purple and pink haired crew that always seems to support that kind of that stuff. Look at Mamdani in NYC.

Like I said, I'm much more concerned with the growing base of the DSA than I am with that crew in the OP.

Iran's war on America started in 1979 with the seizing of the US embassy in Tehran. The US didn't start this war. Trump didn't start this war. Iran did under President Jimmy Carter, a Democrat. Trump took action with Israel after it was determined Iran was continuing it's development of nuclear weapons. Trump is making the world a safer, more prosperous place to live.

Nuclear armed terrorists cannot be allowed period!

If you want to live under that fear, then go ahead and support Iran and everything they stand for. Then live with the results.
Couldn't have said it better. I hate war. But, after 47 years of Iran backed terrorism and being hell bent on obtaining a nuclear weapon, something had to be done. Once they got the warheads, don't think China wouldn't give them a delivery system. Once that happened,Israel would be destroyed. Then the great Satan would be next. The United States of America. Think about that.

This could take the steam out of this new party if this latest deal holds true. That's a big IF.

Where are the epstine files?
Over 3 million pages have been released along with assorted videos. Have you even bothered to read or view any of them for yourself? Or are you waiting for someone else to read them and then tell you what was in them like most of lazy John Q. Public? We've all gotten a bit fat and lazy with regards to political information. It's always easier and much more pleasant to just take what we're fed by the MSM (And they would NEVER lie, would they?) and go on with our American Idol lives. Our culture seems to be able to remember everything The Kardashians do and say but haven't the time to look any further than what they're told with the state of the world.

Maybe read a few pages. It's not easy reading for me both morally and mentally since I had no idea who most of those people were/are and had to keep stopping to go look them up. 3 million pages have been released and that still isn't all of it. I don't need more right now since I haven't even gotten through what I've been given yet...and maybe I never will. The disgust just keeps stopping me.

BTW...Some of Fauci's diary has been released too. You might want to take a gander at that too since it pretty much directly affected you and every citizen of this country.

The GOP’s campaign strategy of demonizing Democrats because of Democrat Socialism is only sticking with Fox News boomers, and it’s their own fault.

Republicans are in full power right now and Americans are struggling to make ends meet under steady inflation and high gas prices because of another foreign war that the vast majority of Americans voted against and do not support, with fears of a possible draft coming.

When people can’t pay their bills and are afraid of dying in a war that has nothing to do with us, they aren’t so afraid of socialism.

They are afraid of being evicted.

They are afraid because they can’t find a good paying job.

They are afraid because they can’t afford health insurance and healthcare.

They are afraid because they are struggling to feed their family.

And they are afraid of war and its consequences, rightfully so!

And this is all under full Republican control with Trump in the White House commanding the lead, bullying everyone to this outcome.

Our MAGA campaign promises were no more foreign wars, make life affordable again, holding people accountable, securing the border and deporting illegal aliens that invaded our country.

The only success has been securing the border.

It was about putting Americans FIRST, yet the Trump admin won’t even get rid of H1B visa holders stealing American jobs or kick out hundreds of thousands of Chinese students and foreign students taking college opportunities from American students.

You can make the other side look scary when you are actually delivering results that are good for Americans, but when you fail to deliver for the people who supported you and betray your campaign promises, you lose their trust.

And what should look scary doesn’t look so scary to them anymore.

Yes that is what I was checking. In statistical analysis it is not possible to draw a conclusion about an entire population (college age or 18-44 voters) using just a local sample (Tampa).

The ones I deal with are in transit, and I get a fresh cohort to sample every two weeks.

Like I said, I'm much more concerned with the growing base of the DSA than I am with that crew in the OP.
I understand, but the real concern is those sitting out. From a pure mathematical perspective, every person who joins DSA is a -1, while every person who sits out is a -2.

It hurts more when people choose to not vote than when they choose to vote for the opposing side. And there are many, many more choosing to sit out because of the actions and policies of the “Republican” party than are choosing to join DSA.

I will not pander to a group. I certainly will not pander to a group made up of those in the OP just because they are an "alternative" or are spiking in popularity for whatever reason. They failed to prove themselves the first time (or several) they had power/influence. They are biting the hand that fed them or that they rode the coattails of. For me, it isn't really a matter of "Trumpism". It is their personal histories and backgrounds.

For instance, Tucker Carlson has lied multiple times. Then he pivoted. Then he pivoted again. And he is pivoting once more. He does one thing then claims people misunderstand him and tries to redefine himself. Look at what he was/is doing with his newfound religiosity. If this group above is looking to use Carlson as a mouthpiece, what does that say about the group as a whole? It says they are willing to lay down with dogs, but they forget when you do that you wake up with fleas.

To be honest, taking the ages 18-44 is a statistical error. Most 18–22-year-olds are still participating in the higher education indoctrination boondoggle and very few have if any real life experiences. Their worldview is very different from a 35–44-year-old that has had to pay bills and try and raise a family. But they all are very much a part of the I Want What I Want, When I Want It generation. Everything is at their fingertips almost instantaneously. Hungry? Click on Door Dash and they will bring it to your door. Need new pajama pants? Amazon delivers. Bored? There are thousands of movies and games at your fingertips. You don't even have to get out of bed! Low on funds? I can't work because I can't find a job that will give me a "living wage" of $25 an hour. Never mind that I'm only qualified to flip burgers and mix fancy coffees. I deserve all this because my parents raised me and told me I was special and the world owes it to me because I breathe air.

To be honest, sadly, there are quite a few boomers and Gen X that feel the same way. Instant gratification is their motto too.
Just a question. How many do you know? No snark at all.

There is some truth in your statement. Whenever someone feels disappointed by circumstances, they tend to close shop and look for greener pastures. Sometimes it works out. Most of the time it's just more disappointment. The educational indoctrination has worked very, very well for the las 50 years and now we are seeing the fruits of it. Most of the younger people either failed to learn from history or were never taught it. They don't understand that the socialist experiment has been tried before all over the world and within one generation has failed and only survived by dictator governments forcing it upon the people.

This is my opinion, but my heart does cringe for my grandchildren and the world that they will face.
People are sick of driving on chewed up roads and worrying about whether bridges and electrical grids will hold up long enough to continue being of service. Something's got to give.
Just my observation but the chewed up roads in my area are directly related to the FACT that 85% of the roads budget for the state of Illinois is being directed away from downstate to prop up the failing CTA trains in Shitcago. That leaves 15% for the rest of the state. A few years ago, the state got the bright idea to revamp a state highway running through town. They bought up the properties needed to enlarge the roadway. Both residents and businesses were forced to sell and relocate. In some instances, it was a good thing since the properties were known as drug houses. (The problem didn't go away. It just relocated.) Anyway, those same houses and businesses are now just sitting vacant and the only thing growing is the grass and weeds that apparently the state can't afford to even mow. The highway through the area is your chewed up patchwork mess. Project is half done but hey, the commuters in Shitcago can still ride cheaply!
Iran says there is no deal and they don’t know what Trump is talking about.
And we all know that Iran doesn't lie, right? Of course, they do but, in their view, it isn't a lie if told to a non-muslim.

No one said or insinuated that. They are the counter party, so they get a say. Further, they have a vested interest in this, so we cannot simply dismiss their claims because “they’re Muslims”.

If Trump says one thing and Iran says another, then someone is lying. Religion has nothing to do with it.

To automatically assume Iran is the party not telling the truth without looking at any substantiating evidence is ignorant and folly.

And there is where your argument falls apart. You are looking at it as a westerner does...separation of church (religion) and state. As it stands right now, Iran is/was operating as a mullahocracy. What the mullah says goes. Ruled by religion (if you can call it that) and religion is the government. So religion has EVERYTHING to do with it.

Tucker Carlson announces that the United States government may be preparing to arrest him through a CIA criminal referral.

The government is reportedly claiming that Carlson’s interviews with Iranian leaders before the war began may have violated the law.

He says the government spied on him, read his text messages, and is now trying to imprison him like Julian Assange and Edward Snowden.

Sigh.

We were specifically referring to Iran’s statement that there is no deal, in the context of it’s contradiction to Trump’s statement that there is; and the assumption of some posters on here to assume, without evidence or understanding, that any contradiction automatically means Iran is lying because “they’re Muslim”.

People don't realize that the trigger to the military conflict with Iran was Iran's January 2026 Khorramshahr-5 missile test. That test led Iranian leadership to claim they have a missile with range up to 12,000 kilometers, 7450 miles with a 2,000 kilo payload.

The 2,000 kilo payload means the missile is capable of carrying an Iranian nuclear warhead. The 12,000 kilometer range puts the eastern half of the US in Iran's striking distance, plus Alaska and much of Canada if the missile is fired eastward.

Putting the continental US under threat of an Iranian nuclear strike was something no previous US president had faced and something Trump and the Pentagon could not stand for. So plans for the operation were drawn up and put into action.

MTG is convinced that the desire for a new party is even stronger than it was during Ross Perot’s campaign.

“Both parties are broken.”

“Social Security’s going bankrupt.”

“Health insurance is unaffordable.”

“The value of the dollar continues to crumble.”

“Life here continues to get worse and worse.”

“And Republicans are not going to fix it.”

“Democrats, same thing.”

“So I do see a future where very serious-minded people from the left and the right can come together … on a core group of issues.”

“Social issues that we really fight on, put them to the side and … let’s come together on the very serious issues, like the cost of living.”

“Inflation.”

“Housing.”

“Jobs.”

“Healthcare.”

“Ross Perot got nearly 20% of the vote.”

“There was a thirst that strong back then that hated the Republican Party, and also there were Democrat voters that voted for him.”

“I think the thirst is much bigger now.”

“And I think it’s getting to a point where it’s doable.”

Tucker Carlson said the conservative movement may not exist in a couple years, and that there’s not much vision in it unless it is 100% his definition of “America First.”

Does that mean a party that embraces complete isolationism, conspiracies, anti-capitalism, and pro-Islam?

If people follow Tucker, the conservative movement will be in deep trouble and unrecognizable.

It's been broken, for a long while. People might be interested in a third party, but will they actually go out, and vote third party? Perot got like 20% of the vote, but things are a lot different now. Social media and really changed the landscape.

If people follow Tucker, the conservative movement will be in deep trouble and unrecognizable.
So, what has he suggested, should replace it? I don't think current Conservatives will be voting any thing else but Repub.
