CHAT Managing covid-19 with ivermectin in Zimbabwe

Interview and article by Christine Clark.

Dr Jackie Stone describes how large doses of ivermectin are safe and effective for the treatment of covid-19 and side effects are temporary and tolerable.

“The first thing you give is the ivermectin”, says Dr Stone. Initially, for mild disease, her team used doses of 0.2 – 0.3 mg/kg on days 0, 4 and 8 but soon found that 0.2 mg/kg for five days was more effective. Later the dose was further increased to then 0.3mg /kg for five days, based on information from colleagues in South Africa.

“Now, because we’ve been using it for a long time we’ve got very confident with its safety”, says Dr Stone. Falling sick with covid-19 themselves has given Dr Stone and her team deeper insights into the way that ivermectin can be used for the best effects. “We’ve realised sometimes you’ve got to give 0.2/kg, then hit it again with 0.2/kg, then hit it again with 0.2/kg and if you think that you are going to lose the patient, we know that below 0.6 /kg is definitely safe so we give 0.6/kg”, she says. For example, for a female patient who presented with oxygen saturation of 43% recommended a dose, to be repeated if necessary. “The worst thing that’s going to happen is that they’re going to get a visual disturbance. You warn them that they may get temporary blindness but that it will not last”, she adds.

Single doses 70 – 100mg

“Our introduction to bigger doses actually came quite early”, explains Dr Stone. “One of the lessons I discovered was that if you’re going to give a hypoxic patient medication, make sure you tell their partner or the person who is giving the medication what to do, because they appear to all intents and purposes to be communicating with you but they are effectively not quite there”.

Two patients illustrated this situation clearly: The first was a female patient who presented with oxygen saturation of 89% and was systemically very unwell. She was given five 12 mg tablets of ivermectin to take once a day herself and an additional 12mg tablet as a prophylactic dose for her husband. Dr Stone recalls, “In the morning I phoned her and she’s superbly well. She said, “Oh, I’m so grateful to you, I’ve been so sick, this is fabulous….” “. Further enquiries revealed that she had taken all six doses (a single dose of 72mg) herself on the previous evening. “She only weighs about 60kg – and she had no side effects, which is quite remarkable”, notes Dr Stone.

Dose escalation

The other patient was a man who had been very sick for five days despite taking 12mg ivermectin a day for five days. He presented with oxygen saturation in the low 80s. “At this stage I was starting to see a pattern ….. if we’re underdosing them, there’s a problem because they’re not getting better …… and if your viral load is very high and you don’t have enough coating the virus is going to escape and replicate so our protocol now is to escalate the dose if there’s no response in the first 24 hours”, says Dr Stone.

She recalls, “He came in and said you just need to do something”. She explained that she would switch his dose to 20mg/day for a further five days. “I laid everything out, turned round and he’d taken the entire 100mg as a single dose. So, he was in front of me so I was thinking, do I pump his stomach? What do I do? And I looked at the data. You know they’ve used up to 2mg per kg – 20 times the dose – in the malaria studies and in the Kenyan studies”, she said. “Doctors in Africa are not scared of this drug – it is a lot safer than paracetamol – so they are relaxed about it”, she adds. In the evening the patient telephoned and said, “I’m feeling absolutely great – I’m off to go and hit some balls”. He then went to the driving range to play golf. He had no blurred vision. “Interestingly, the two patients who took big doses that were thin did not have blurred vision”, notes Dr Stone. Other patients have reported visual disturbances. One 120kg patient he took 100mg on his own initiative and then telephoned Dr Stone to say, “I don’t know what’s going on here – I’m dizzy and I’ve got blurred vision”. She responded, “Don’t worry, it will resolve within 48 hours. You’re not going to die from it but you were very sick with covid”. She comments that he made a significant recovery quite quickly.

Dr Jackie Stone holds degrees in medicine and medical biochemistry from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. She has worked in London, Dubai and Australia and holds a Diploma in Aviation Medicine. She now works in family practice in Zimbabwe.

If one buys ivermectin then there is only so much ivermectin in the liquid.

I don't think one needs anywhere near such high levels. But I haven't had covid. I got rid of Shingles very quickly but.

Here's the deal --> go to your local Tractor Supply and buy the box of 1.87% IVERMECTIN HORSE PASTE.

There's a "syringe" inside full of the paste for a 1200 pound animal.

There's a disc which spins around the injector to set the weight of the animal and then just squeeze.

Best taken on an english muffin w/ cream cheese......because even though advertised as "apple flavored"......well it's just kinda "horsey".....so just mask it up w/ something

Must not work too good since they are importing Chinese vaccines and renewing shutdowns:

Zimbabwe expects to receive 2.5 million COVID-19 vaccines from China by the end of this month as it seeks to boost its vaccination drive after several centres ran out of doses, which caused panic, the information minister said on Tuesday.

The southern African nation has faced shortages of vaccines at major centres in Harare and Bulawayo, forcing authorities to prioritise inoculating those seeking second doses. read more

"Arrangements are currently in progress to procure 2 million doses of vaccines from China. These are expected in the country by end of month. Furthermore 500,000 doses of vaccines are expected to be delivered this Saturday," Monica Mutsvangwa said during a post-Cabinet media briefing.

Zimbabwe has announced stricter coronavirus measures along its northern border with Zambia after a spike in confirmed infections. The Zimbabwe Association of Doctors for Human Rights says the strict regulations should be followed by efforts to secure more vaccines once the situation is contained.

"I therefore direct that the following measures be implemented in order to control the spread of COVID-19 in these areas: Curfew from 1800 hours to 0600 hours," Chiwenga said. "Entry or exit into these districts is prohibited except for essential services. Public transport to carry half their carrying capacity to enable physical distancing. Every public transport vehicle be disinfected after every trip.”

Chiwenga — who doubles as Zimbabwe’s health minister — said all restrictions imposed throughout Zimbabwe over the past weekend such as bans on gatherings except for funerals would also apply to the three districts of Makonde, Hurungwe and Kariba.

Only 30 people would be allowed at funerals, according to the restrictions he announced over the weekend.

There was no word on when the measures may be lifted.

According to the article you don’t need the dial, just take somewhere between half the tube and the whole tube. 72-120mg equivalent).

According to the article you may go blind but it’ll be fine…..

Doesn’t sound all that reliable and apparently a very limited “study”

Full Disclosure. My wife an I got the vaccine. But, that doesn't mean I might not stock some Ivermectin tabs in my medicine stockpile, just in case. Nothing is guaranteed 100%. Not vaccines, not Ivermectin. I think I might check with my son about having him write a script for the wife and I.
I believe it is every persons responsibility to decide for themselves based on their own circumstances, what the right path for them is.
Here is some info below.
Best of luck to you whatever you choose to do.

A quick web search and here is a US source of human Ivermectin tablets 3mg and the name of a online pharmacy that looks like it will give you a script .
A lot more expensive than horse paste, but it is for humans and it seems to be legit.

The online doctors according to comments in bold below seem to be PUSH Health Online
Their website says an online video visit is $25.

To me, the article in the OP is not a cause for optimism. It was probably posted as a example of ivermectin's success, but when I read it, what I got out of it was basically that if ivermectin is not working its because you didn't take enough and you should just increase the dosage until you go blind.

Simplistic but not very comforting.

Mid 50s Dreaded type A blood. Dreaded for Covid according to articles I read.
Took 250lb dose day 1 which was actually day 5 of mild symptoms but did not know it was Covid until I checked 02 Sat down to 89 which is Hypoxic.
Took 250lb dose day 2
Did not skip a day.
Night of day two, fever spike, chills, then soaked with sweat when it broke all in a four hour span.
Morning of Day three Monday, woke up a winner. Big difference in how I felt.
Night and day difference.
Continued to take half a 125lb dose for next three days.
Only side effect- I beat Covid like a drum.
Symptoms gone completely by Thursday.

If you don’t want to use it, then don’t.
It’s that simple.

All I can say is what I did. Your mileage may vary.
This is not medical advice so don’t take it as that.
Also my Vit D levels are up there, lots of sun I get plus supplement on days of no sun. Vit C levels at 10k mg a day, divided dose, L-lysine 5k mg a day.
Started 3k mg NAC divided doses on Saturday evening. Made a difference in breathing.
Also was on OMAD carnivore/paleo diet.

Only symptoms to mention were decreased 02 Sat, for two days, sinus pressure, slight fatigue, breathing discomfort that prompted a cough on deep breath, slight temp rise to 99 except one night of chills. I did not check it then but could tell. I figure it was the fever spike when the dead virus hits the blood stream in mass. Just my guess there.

My weight was 177 when I took it.
That’s my experience in a nutshell.

Where did you get it? Did you use the horse paste or a pharmacy grade pill?

If you don't mind me asking?

It’s my opinion that if you are healthy and take care of your self to begin with, healthy weight, don’t eat shit food then the Ivermectin has a much better chance of working.

Very unlikely. For some reason, ivermectin seems to have rather potent antiviral activity. DE works by physically damaging the hard shells of insects with an exoskeleton, causing them to dry out and die.

Summerthyme
Well dang. I was hoping the D.E. would work. I’ve taken it before. I get the willies thinking about taking horse paste for some reason. I don’t know why.

I think that is way too much. The whole tube is for a 1200 lb horse.

Where did you buy it?
Murdoch’s Ranch Supply.
Any Farm snd Ranch Supply store carries it.

Amazon carries, Jeffers, valley vet supply.
It’s been discussed many many times in several different threads. It’s very available.

But to actually answer you question I have bought it at multiple different places. I didn’t buy a tube for this express purpose. I buy a dozen at a time for our horses.
