GUNS/RLTD Man Who Supplied Ammo to Las Vegas Shooter Gets 13 Months

The Mesa, Arizona, man who supplied ammunition to the October 1, 2017, Las Vegas shooter was sentenced Tuesday to 13 months.
The Associated Press reports that 57-year-old Douglas Haig was sentenced for “manufacturing ammunition without a license.”
Haig made armor piercing rounds at this home and sold them at gun shows and online. A box with Haig’s address on it was found near the Las Vegas gunman’s body after law enforcement entered the suite on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel.


KSNV reports that Haig “told federal agents he met with and sold ammunition to [the Las Vegas gunman].”
Haig is being confined at home until October 2, 2020, at which time he must surrender for 13 months in a federal prison. That will be followed by three years of supervised release.

It is a Federal crime to manufacture and sell ammunition without a Fed manufacturing license. It's not illegal to manufacture it for personal use or even to give it away, but you can't sell it.

If you manufacture ammo as a commercial business, then yes, you have to be licensed. They usually don't go after small time vendors unless you become a nail like this guy did.

It gets sticky when you load A/P rounds. In some states legal for rifle, not pistol. That's where ARs get tricky

The headline implies that the maker of the ammo was involved in the plot ("Supplied Ammo"), when he was just trying to make a buck, I bet. He screwed up by not being licensed, but I don't see where he was tied to the shooter in other than a business transaction sense.

There are so many unknowns in this sketchy story. With the MILLIONS of cameras in Vegas, why could they not show ONE at least checking in to the hotel or one of the hallways with the ammo being brought in?? How could he hide that much ammo without alerting housekeeping? What was his issue? Surely, he had some sort of history, mental or otherwise! I quit being a custom reloader after LBJ’s “Gun Control Act” of 1968. The ostensible purpose of GCA 68 was to prohibit firearms dealers from selling guns directly to customers, and that was the birth of the 4473 form, all because Lee Harvey Oswald purchased a 6.5 Carcano from Klein’s Sporting Goods in Chicago for delivery in Texas. GCA-68 also required all “manufacturers” of ammunition to keep a list of their customers and turn that list over to the BATF. No thanks.

I have never heard of needing a license to manufacture ammo except when selling across state lines and a business license for retail sales. Oswald? There were eight sniper teams at Daley Plaza, five took the shot, three failed to deliver.

And how does one guy at a hotel fire from four separate positions on the ground floor? Really people, there is no conspiracy, "they" did it.
