Mag-Lite LED flashlight bulbs

Has anyone tried the new LED bulbs from either Mag-Lite or NiteIze. My Wal-Mart had both this morning along with some Mag-Lite flashlight using the LED bulb instead of the normal bulb. The price on the flashlights was about $15.00 more than ones with the regular bulb

The replacement bulbs were $8.86 for the NiteIze one and $18.00+ for the Mag-Lite one. The NiteIze bulb indicates that it can be used in a 2 to 6 cell C or D flashlight. The Mag-Lite ones were specific for each flashlight. Based on what I know about LEDs, it doesn’t make any sense to have a different bulb for each size.

I bought one of the NiteIze bulbs and will try it tonight in a 3 C cell and a 3 D cell Mag-Lite unless I hear from someone that has had a bad experience.

Mag lite has different sizes because the bulbs are brighter the more power you use....we got our Led's for our maglights from another company....can't find the link but I will see if I can find it......I will say it gives off a nice white lite. I don't know if the maglite leds are focusable like the ones we got but I do know the niteize are NOT focusable......we tried those out. Now that I am waking up I also remember the first one we got did not work.......at all......

If you have the maglights already, you might try a look around for other options.
We were not impressed with the niteize.....

Now to find the other company.....sorry early still and waking up.

Here it is....great company and good people. We are not affiliated with them only to say we have
their Led's and use them all the time. And they will stand behind their products....just ask.

I have the niteize for my mini but we have two luxeons for the other two mini's. We like the Luxeons better cause you can focus the bean where you can't with the niteize.........

I am wondering if the Maglite leds are able to focus?????

I also have a Browning Black Ice flashlight.....I love it! It was expensive....I will tell you that but it has 4 different functions and 4 different settings. Blue light, red light, and white light, plus a high power beam that blasts like a d cell.....
I bought it last fall for tracking deer if we managed to see one, hit one late in the day. The Blue light led will show up a blood trail. The red led is plenty of light to see walking at night without giving away your location readily. It also has the low light white........same deal there. Or you have the 6 lumen focusable spotlight which is awesome....I use that at night when the dog is out.....we have predators up here like cougars, bears, coyotes ect.....I like to check the area out before I put her out....
It was about $70..and uses the expensive batteries....but if you use the low light options most of the time those batteries will last quite awhile.....I carry two lights with me when I hunt. My mini and the Black Ice......
The black ice lives here on my puter desk the rest of the time......

Like CFI, I love mine. Nite-ize does a great job with the Mini-Mag version, never used the larger LED ones for the C or D cells.

The maglight branded LEDs for the C and D cell maglites can be focused. They are simply a bulb replacement.

All of my Mags and Mini-Mags have been converted over to LED now. The Minis have the Nite Ize and the Mags have the factory drop ins. I like them all right well.

wind up flashlight

Have any of you seen the wind-up flashlights yet? I don't remember the brand, but it looks pretty good. I think it has 3 bulbs in it and it looks fairly bright. It cost $14.99 at the drug store. The way it sounds, it can be charged any time by cranking it. The wind-up radio and light combo that I have can't be charged by winding if the battery is dead. I keep waiting for them to go on sale, but so far they haven't !

Do a Searchon here for the Illuminator. We had a thread for it a while back. I bought it at Kohl's. Since then I have seen it ofr $15 at Walgreen's. Wind-up and works great. Makes noise when winding-not a silent flashlight if that matters. I love it and keep it by the bedside.

I just bought a NiteIze drop-in for my 3-cell MagLight. Seems to work just fine. Yes, it is focussable - I suspect because it is a function of the mechanics of the flashlight body rather than the bulb. I keep forgetting to actualy USE the thing in real-world conditions, because I end up grabbing my smaller Darcy LED light!

Black Out
The Mag lite bulb blows away the NiteIze bulb by far for the 4 D-Cell! But the NiteIze triple LED for the mini mag light is awesome.

I was corrected by my husband about my Browning Black ice. It has a 90 lumen main light in it......it rocks...

The Terra Lux bulbs that I gave the url for blows away the NiteIze.....yeah they cost more but they do more. They will work right down to the very last juice left in the batteries....and they are a LOT brighter......a whole lot brighter.

The NiteIze I have in my mini is ok but when I need to really see in the dark I grab my hubbie's mini mag cause it has the Terra Lux bulb in it. It is much, much brighter. Or I use my Browning...

Like I said, I am not impressed with Niteize....you get what you pay for I guess....

I have converted all my mag lights to LEDs and they have been great. The battery life is amazing.. and its just as bright.

i'm still waiting for OddOne to build a 3 watt LED upgrade for a 6 cell mag-lite...
Now something like that might cause me to fire my old six cell up again. I stopped using it when I left security work. It's an expensive beast to feed.

I do love the extended battery life the new LEDs give my Mags.
