Folks,

JUST got a local PD alert on my cellphone-don't know what it's about but thought to pass it on. Message as follows-

We are aware of reports from communities throughout the National Capitol Region of a loud "boom" this afternoon. There is no threat at this time.

There are '16's up out of Andrews around 15-18 k feet. Heard as far as Annapolis MD. Nobody has a clue apparently. I'd say reentry vehicle, orbital object decceerarith etc.

Don't know what's up but if we end up blasted into the atmosphere-then Alf says "It's been fun".

Boy that was a surprise! I prefer not to give my exact location, but we felt it in the Western Suburbs. Neighbors said family in Woodbridge felt it, son’s friends in Springfield felt it, and reports from Baltimore and Eastern Shore. Though we had just gotten home from lunch with a family member in Leesburg who did not hear it while driving back to WV.

The sound of a huge explosion was heard in the area surrounding Washington DC as the US military conducted air defense drills, reports say.

City of Annapolis Office of Emergency Management said an authorized Department of Defense flight caused the sound, heard just after 8pm local time.

The spokesperson said: "The loud boom that was heard across the area was caused by an authorized DOD flight. "This flight caused a sonic boom."

The sound of a huge explosion was heard in the area surrounding Washington DC as the US military conducted air defence drills, reports say.

The City of Annapolis Office of Emergency Management said an authorised Department of Defence flight caused the sound, heard just after 8pm local time and registered as a 'seismic-like event'.

The authority said: "The loud boom that was heard across the DMV area was caused by an authorized DOD flight.
"This flight caused a sonic boom."

Residents in nearby Maryland and Virginia all reported hearing a large explosion - which sparked panic.
The plane departed from Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, the home of Air Force One.

People in both Annapolis and Dale City, Virginia, which are around 60 miles apart, both reported a strange sound.

A spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security said: "We are aware of reports from communities throughout the National Capital Region of a loud “boom” this afternoon. There is no threat at this time."

The city of Bowie, Maryland, added: "We have confirmed that the loud boom heard in Bowie was a sonic boom from a plane out of Joint Base Andrews."

Prince George's County Police Department also confirmed they were told it was an exercise.


Journalist Andrew Leyden claimed on Twitter that the DC Air National Guard had been conducting air defence drills over the Chesapeake Bay and was cleared to go supersonic during an alert scramble exercise.

Tom Lynch, an NBC reporter, said terrified residents rang 911 in a huge panic after the sound made windows rattle and alarms blare.

Reports indicate police were forced to call the Federal Aviation Administration to find out more.

One Twitter user wrote: "Anyone else in Annapolis hear a big boom and then their house shake?"

"Something big just went boom in Manassas, VA," another person added.

One person in the American capital even said they though a truck had hit their house.

They said: "Felt in in the eastern DC suburbs. Thought a truck hit my house."

That loud of a boom sounds like a meteorite. The picture showing the smoke streak after the boom would lend credence.

Occam's Razor? What if some pilot going up for a $100 Hamburger and has a heart attack on the flight home? His plane wanders into restricted airspace and F16 get scrambled? It will be interesting to find out what the NTSB preliminary report says. The board probably already has a GO-Team on the way to the accident site.

Not everything that goes on in and around DC is a conspiracy or cover up. Will withhold judgement till more info is available.

We're a mile from Mount Vernon estate, Potomac River area. I didn't hear it, wife heard it at church down towards the beltway Alexandria area.

That would cause the scramble. When CAP's first started near Dulles airport after 9/11; once saw a F-16 do an Immelman at altitude over!!! the airport.
Dropping 26k feet less than a minute would show a missile terminal descent profile on ATC radars. Hence the supersonic "get there in a hurry in case you need to shoot it down" dash to the scene.

F-16's are excitable birds.
One needs to 'wheels up' within a few thousand feet of takeoff - or the wheels get ripped off by the slipstream...

Lol. Yep there is that’s why these same dod folks hid the multiple balloons the CCP sent over usa and waited until one went all across the country and became a public outcry before they shot the dam thing down.

Although there are still some number of good Americans serving, sadly to many officers have been politicized and enforce only the demoncrats policies.

Wouldn’t it have been better for them to just announce that they were trying to determine what caused it than lie?

I'll be honest and thought someone was a Maverick wannabe. But this isn't the movies folks so if it was Captain Idiot in a National Guard airplane, someone is in some hot, hot water.

My dad was an air traffic controller for 17 years in the USAF. The stories he used to tell. Oh my.
