Left-wing Seed Companies

I think I posted something about this over at the old site, but it must have been to late to transfer over. I’m trying to find a new company to order seeds from. Used to mostly use Fedco, but they are very left-leaning. Got a Baker Creek catalog, but it looks like they are also lefties (clue: two of their kids are named Sasha and Malia). I used to order from Pinetree, and am going to check them out again, but am looking for other recommendations, too - they should at least be neutral!

I'd never thought of the political leanings of seed companies.
But, it makes sense that they are lefties.

Since they are all into the earth, that seems to be a left item

Yes, that is probably the reason. It’s frustrating, because the ones I mentioned are otherwise good companies. I just don’t want to support lefties.

I have ordered once from these people, successfully. I will be a repeat customer. I haven't watched all their vids for clues, but they've got an extensive "About Us" section and I don't see any kids named Sasha or Malia, and frankly I don't see how a socialist type would have made the journey these folks have. Of course, they could've made it all up....nah, this is the internet and so it's all true....

But like I said, I'll be ordering again from 'em this winter for next spring. Someone sees this and wants it, remind me along about end of February and I'll give a report on my 2nd experience with 'em!

DeBruyn Seed Co has good prices but few choices.

Thank you! These people sell large amounts of seed for the price of a packet from another company! It may be more than we will need for one year, but I will put the extra in the frig and save it. I like to have enough seed on hand for at least two years.

I know. I’m just hoping that there are still some companies who are at least maintaining an appearance of neutrality. Of course, we really ought to be saving seed from our own gardens as much as we can. Some things are pretty easy to save seed from; others take a little planning ahead. But our ancestors all did it, and we can, too.

I got my Bakers Creek catalog today but haven’t really studied it yet. After reading the original post, I took a moment to peruse the catalog. Didn’t find anything at all offensive, in fact I totally loved what I saw, so I would have to agree with Freeholder, this is definitely a left leaning family.

My first choice.....E & R Seed Company LLC, 1356 E 200S, Monroe, IN 46772 ........No GMOs!....thousands of selections....Mennonite folks, I believe.......P260-692-6827........F260-692-6576.....organic as well as non organic seed......lots of heirloom seed as well as hybrids......................I highly recommend them.......The Old Grey Wolf. who lives in da woods

Just got my Southern Exposure catalog yesterday.

Haven't (yet) seen anything that has a political slant

Southern Exposure is run by a very lefty hippie commune in Virginia. My friend's daughter and husband live and work there. When she visits she has to be very careful with her speech...the grandson is a "they", can't misgender any of the folks there. Very hostile to Christianity in general.

I didn't notice any of the usual leftist blather in the Fedco catalog this year, which is surprising. We're going to be buying more from Johnny's.

just got my seed order from MIGardner. Large selection of $0.99 seeds. Not sure of his politics. He never mentions anything political on his YouTube channel, but he doesn’t seem to be left leaning.
Also, True Leaf Market is good. They are promoted by David Dubine who is certainly not a lefty.

Make sure to check shipping costs before ordering. Some companies listed here have outrageous prices after shipping is added.

I've recently subbed to MIGardener's YouTube channel; zillions of great videos, like a master gardener course. His seeds look great & I was thinking about ordering. He has a video that makes me think he's definitely not a lefty! Unfortunately this one is only on Facebook. 7:16 Apparently his previous video included the fact that he and his wife cooked cod for Valentine's day, and he got a ton of negative feedback. So he posted this huge rant about how people who shamed him and told him he should delete the video had better not be wearing shoes, or even any clothing at all, driving cars, riding bikes or anything else because it makes them all hypocrites. And he quoted the Bible verse about the log in the eye. I think I really like this guy! :)

Let's see if I can get the video posted correctly. :)

I never get seed catalogues any more, probably because I never ordered from them. I have ordered seeds from Amazon and ebay though.

I generally boycott left leaning entities, I can remember the product but sometimes I can't remember why. I avoid anything to do with Nestle except Perrier, although I don't drink it daily anymore, love the stuff, besides tasting wonderful (probably an acquired taste) it is terriffic (sp) for an upset stomach.

Most of them are very lefty. I just have to hold my nose and order. Johnnys, High Mowing and Fedco are all very left but sell good stuff. I look at it as more protecting our local farming infrastructure as a lot of their seed is grown locally in Northern New England.

Try Stark's. Yes, they have mostly trees, but they also have seeds too. Yes, they are expensive>>>but the trees I have ordered from them are AWSOME>>>and NONE of them died>>>>way more than I can say for MANY other places!!
