Water Katadyn Pocket water filter

I've been doing some looking on the web, and think this is the filter I want for various mobile uses (have a larger 3 candle drip type for home use in my backups).
It appears they do the MAP pricing thing like Holley as far as what I am seeing at various online retailers. Does anyone know of either sales, or better pricing online than $369?

Other brands/models I have looked at appear to be all plastic, and have a lot of complaints of breakage. Other suggestions for comparable substitutes? I like this unit due to robustness and it looks like it filters reasonably fast, within its filtration capabilities (what it filters out).

I have also seen a couple NIB old style of the Pocket (where the machined ends for the input/output ports are different than the current offering). Are the internal service parts (check valves, seals, etc) the same as what is sold for the new production units? These are appealing for pricing reasons, but from what I can see, the current style is at least 15 or more years old...

Thanks-

I have no experience with katadyn pocket filter. I never could justify the price.

I did buy a katadyn Combi filter 20 years ago. It has worked fine and has the option for carbon filtration if chemicals are suspected. It does have some plastic parts.

It uses the same type ceramic filter as the pocket. I have a spare filter, but haven't needed it. The main danger with ceramic to me is freeze cracking if wet.

I have the lifestraw, which is all I could afford. Prayerfully I will never need it.

I ended up contacting High Water Filters and discussed my perceived needs/wants. The owner emailed back and forth with me several times, and the filter I wanted was on sale currently, with an additional offered very generous discount she extended when I purchased some spare parts and service items for it at the same time. Very much worth the time to email her, as I ended up with more stuff cheaper than buying used off of eBay.

I went the purification tabs route, in the end of the day though most of the water around here is pretty drinkable on its own. Except for the town water of course, it's full of fluoride chlorine and settler chemicals. My lawn doesn't even like it.
