“Ready for the pop? Here comes the pop.” The quote above is from a Loveland Police officer – Austin Hopp – said in reference to the sound it made when he dislocated and fractured Karen Garner’s shoulder. Hopp made this comment to two fellow Loveland Police officers while they watched his body camera video together at the police station. They all laughed about it. The comment was made while Karen Garner, who has dementia, remained handcuffed to a bench in a cell just 10 feet away from them, alone, confused and crying in pain. She would ultimately go over six hours without any medical attention.

This horrific statement comes to light after Ms. Garner’s family hired a sound engineer to enhance the audio on Loveland Police station booking videos from the day of Karen’s arrest. The video reveals a grotesque culture of callous disregard for the health and safety of citizens. The officers fist-bump one another multiple times in self-congratulation for both the assault on Garner and the intimidation of the citizen who attempted to complain about it.

In an April 26, 2021 press release responding to the revelations seen in this video, Ms. Garner's attorney, Sarah Schielke of The Life & Liberty Law Office states: “This is utterly disgusting. These videos cannot be unseen or unheard. I am sorry to have to share them with the public. This will be traumatic and deeply upsetting for everyone to see. But as it often goes with bad police departments, it seems this is the only way to make them change. They have to be exposed. If I didn’t release this, the Loveland Police’s toxic culture of arrogance and entitlement, along with their abuse of the vulnerable and powerless, would carry on, business as usual. I won’t be a part of that.”

“Loveland knew. They’ve known all along,” Schielke continues. “They failed Karen Garner. They failed the community. And they did it all on camera. Do you realize how horrifying that is? That means they were used to getting away with it.
That the comfortable norm in Loveland is one of zero accountability. That this is not just some ‘isolated incident.’ It is not just one single ‘problem.’ It is widespread, sociopathic criminality. And to attempt to shift the burden to Karen, or a bystander, or her family, or counsel, to report this? Shame on you, Loveland. You took an oath to protect and serve. This is a disgrace.”

Since filing a federal lawsuit against the City of Loveland and three of its officers on April 14, 2021, the Loveland Police Department’s gruesome arrest and abuse of 73-year-old grandmother Karen Garner has horrified the country, making national headlines (New York Times, Washington Post, CBS News, NBC News, CNN, Newsweek, The Guardian, Vice). The 8th Judicial District Attorney’s office, in conjunction with the FBI and Fort Collins Police, has since opened a criminal investigation into the Loveland Police.

Meanwhile, the City of Loveland has vowed to protect the “due process” rights of its officers, with Chief Robert Ticer putting one officer on administrative leave (Hopp) and “reassigning” the other two officers (Sergeant Metzler and Officer Jalali) to “administrative duties” (desk duty) until the various investigations are completed. To date, the City has yet to extend any apology to Ms. Garner or her family for the various atrocities witnessed on these videos.

So this lady is walking along the side of the road picking flowers....and what was her crime and the reason for her arrest? How about someone take that cop's arm and break it and dislocate his shoulder.....oh and don't forget slamming the arsehole to the ground a couple of times.

An EYE for and EYE!!

I give up.
What's wrong with them? They know they did wrong. They do.

On top of that, who left her out to shop alone?

So this lady is walking along the side of the road picking flowers? Sooooo what were her crime and the reason for her arrest?
She has dementia and she started to walk out of a shop without paying, when confronted she wanted to pay for the items but the shop wouldn't let her but did let her leave then they called the cops.

Then she was walking home (I gather she is still in the early stages of dementia and had been somewhat independent) and the cops jumped her like she was a hardened criminal, broke her arm, and then put her in a cell without medical treatment for many hours. Finally, a female jail attendant noticed how much pain she was in and called an ambulance.

At least that is how it was reported in the Denver papers, people are horrified (and they should be); this lady was confused, was not resisting arrest beyond being confused and if I recall correctly weighs about 80 pounds.

To think of officers watching the tape and laughing is despicable beyond belief, the officers involved should be tried for criminal assault of a disabled person and the city had better be ready to cough up the cash in a settlement before a jury costs them even more.

These guys are pretty manly with a 73 year old mentally impaired woman who they outweigh, by it looks like, 100 lbs. Wonder how they would do against someone their size? I want to support law enforcement, I really do. But then you see shit like this and i go from wanting to support them to thinking "**** them". I want to think there is only a small percentage of bad apple LEO, but that percentage seems to keep getting larger every day....

Call these bastards and tell them EXACTLY what you think of them.

Among the MILDEST things I could say would be "May YOUR parents get Alzheimers and may someone treat THEM this way; may YOU get Alzheimers and someone treat YOU this way!"

Problem is, you rarely, if ever, see the "Good Cops" stop this behavior and/or arrest their fellow officer while committing the crime! Show me a Police Officer who stops this behavior instead of standing by / participating in it and I will show you a "Good Officer" ...

I don't believe there were any "good" cops there that day. Even the woman present (I will NOT refer to her as a lady b/c she isn't) took JOY in strong-arming that woman and then arrogantly laughing about it afterward

That's depraved indifference.

I have to think that if just a little strategy was used - this little old grandma would have accepted a ride to the hospital - she obviously needed some med observation over getting tossed in a cell >>> can't really comprehend the toyal lack of brains in that group .....

Sadistic PIGS! These statist control freaks are not our friends and don't deserve ANY respect. I was taken down by a half dozen of these types a few years back. Still have the injuries too.

Real heroes there. Animals of the state, that's all they are. Haven't seen you boys on the videos lately during the riots! Where ya been? I hope that lady has some 'men' in her family who will balance the scales of justice a bit. I have seen horrors all over the planet, I couldn't get through that video.

Clearly, obviously, of course, I should not post my comments on this. I should not call the phone number listed above for the Loveland police station. I suspect there are many here who are hesitant to express their feelings about this. They body slammed and hog tied a helpless, confused, little old lady and they are laughing about it. The feelings go from kicking them into piles of bleeding goo to simply staking them out where only the wolves can hear their screams.
We have to be prepared to defend ourselves from BurnLootMurder, from Antifa, from thugs, from Illegals, from the police, from the Federal Bureau of Incompetent jerks, from corrupt politicians in both parties, from a corrupt judicial, and the list goes on.
We tax paying, law abiding CITIZENS are on our own. PERIOD.

Finally not a lurker!
Going through hell with my ex girlfriend I found out a lot about the police. Thank You Jesus I have a friend/co worker with strong ties to the local cops otherwise I'd be in jail. I have SERIOUS difficulty trusting any law enforcement agencies from now on. From being cooperative I am going as gray as I possibly can.

Sadly, I think we will see more of this as the moral, better officers leave departments due to being crapped on so badly by defund the police and the various lawsuits going on. The "bad" officers will stay because it feeds their ego and power trip. Those will be the cops that happily fall into the militarization of departments, the ones we all need to be wary of.

I do hope the officers, and the entire department, is/are thrown to the wolves over this. Its absolutely disgusting what happened to Karen Garner, and I hope they end up rotting in prison for it.
