I was working in my garden about half an hour ago and I hear this incredible screeching like a wounded animal. It kept getting louder and louder so I went to investigate. Well it appears that my youngest St Bernard came across this pup in the woods and scared it half to death. He was only looking at it but it was over on its back screaming in terror. Anyway, I brought it back to the house and will be taking it to the local shelter before the day is out. My two could easily kill it just by playing with it. Cute little part lab girl but I really can't afford spaying, shots etc right now.

Here is a picture of the three of them together. You can see why she was screaming at first! After going over her pretty well she seems to be under 3 mos, still has all the baby teeth and baby fur. Gonna be a large dog for sure!

Oh my.

I'd check around the area and listen closely to see if there's a box-full of them somewhere that somebody dumped. Check the ditches or any easy access dead ends, etc.

Also ask around the neighborhood. She's way too young to have wandered very far on her own.

So was she an abandoned pup or lost from her mommy? My money is on someone dumping her and probably her litter mates. As mentioned above I'd do a little recon of your immediate area.

We have signs all over our mountain warning visitors of hefty fines for dumping a pet around here. Pretty sick if you ask me. But people are.

One of these days I'm gonna catch somebody in the act of abandoning a pup.

They're not going to like what happens.

I busted a lady trying to do that.

I was parked in a rural area that was just beginning to have a new development built.

I was making a phone call.

She pulls up to a wooded part and opens the door fir the dog to get out. She gets back in the car and shuts the door and the dog was just sitting there. The brake lights come on as she put the car into gear, and then sees me sitting there. She very quickly got back out to jet the dog into the car and drive away.

Sometimes, I dislike people.

Check her over for any wounds caused by talons, she's small enough for a large hawk, owl, or eagle to pick up and she could have been dropped.

And some days I hate people and that threshold of whether they should be dispatched or not becomes almost invisible.

People dump off unwanted pets around here a lot. I have rescued and rehomed countless number of them. One horrible neighbor left her pregnant dog outside in the rain with no shelter. The dog gave birth in a downpour. I hopped her fence, while pregnant myself and rescued the dog and her pups. I never told the woman I had done it and found a new home for all of them.

Had a similar problem with kittens turning up like clockwork every three months. I complained to the waitress in the the local eateries of the problem. Might have mentioned it at the local feed and hardware store. Also mentioned I was going to the local vet and ask how much it would cost to euthanize them. The problem stopped immediately.

I know where you are coming from, Sherry. I've taken my share of dumped dogs and cats to the shelter. I've only got so much money and time, plus most of the big dogs that were dumped had some sort of expensive medical problem, which is probably why they were dumped.

Such a cutie! I became mom to my oldest feline fur baby 9 years ago yesterday because someone abandoned the sweet kitten in my neighbors yard. The poor thing meowed for two hours before I went over to see why it wouldn't stop meowing. Nobody around, no momma cat...I believe it was just left to fend for itself. I brought it a saucer of milk but it was too young to drink it so...it came home with me and the kitten formula and bottles began. His head is now bigger than his whole body was back in the day. And you couldn't ask for a better mouser, ratter, etc.

God's blessings come in their own way and time. This sweet baby needs a mom and dad. Please consider keeping her. If it's just a question of paying for her shots and spay, please pm me and I will do what I can to help you.

Rescued a half Lab/half Border Collie once. Great dog. The girls at the vet's office always put a scrap cloth bandanna on him every time he came in. He loved that. He was the ball playingist pickup ridingest dog I ever saw. I will never forget Raeford.

Well.......... I am going to have her scanned for a chip tomorrow, just in case, but if no chip then I will keep her. She appears to be housebroken, she has good body weight but had a good deal of ticks on her so I really can't figure out if she was abandoned or just got lost. I posted her picture on the local pets page on FB and so far no one is missing her. She hasn't been one bit of trouble since she has been here so I think she will be a good dog!

Sherry, do what you feel is right. But, consider, God guided that baby to you & your pack for a reason. I understand the finances angle. As others have said, check on help from local shelters, etc. That beautiful baby may turn out to be one of the best gifts that has come to you!

Godspeed !

God bless you. And I bet your other dogs at this very minute are telling the little one how to get you to get behind her ears scratched; how to get you to give her a belly rub, and the combination to the treats cabinet. You got a fur daughter-I can bet she's going to be one very loyal, loving and beautiful furbaby. Bet she's going to keep the other boys in line too.
I'm sure heaven rejoiced when you took her in.

Look at this way - it's going to be almost a year before she needs spayed. She sure is cute. I'd keep her.

Right move. If it's part lab, it'll be out of there in a week. Don't take on more than you're comfortable with.
Not necessarily. Certainly not around here. My sweet lab mix (mostly lab), basically grew up at the shelter. I got her at about six months. Two mostly GSD puppies were at the shelter, and we took the male, but the sister was still there weeks later. (I have't had a chance to check recently).
