Herbal Just a tip for an Abcessed Tooth

Since I woke up three days ago with a toothache and it ended up being an ascessed gum under the tooth I thought I'd post what worked for me and didn't work for me.

I do have an appointment with my dentist in the morning but I must say most of the abcess is now gone.

The first thing I tried was Colloidal Silver at 12 ppm and although that was soothing somewhat, it really didn't take the pain away much and the sweeling seemed to gradually get worse.

I then started taking Echinacea and that unfortunately didn't seem to touch it. I used the echinacea and the silver together back and forth with limited success.

I tried chamomile in tea form. I slowly sipped the tea and took the tea bag and wrapped it around my gum and tooth. That definately helped. Took alot of the pain away and it felt somewhat more numb.

I tried to go to sleep but after an hour or so realized it was now starting to thob and I couldn't get comfortable. So..

I grabbed a tincture of Goldenseal and let that set in my mouth awhile before I swallowed it. It didn't seem to do much at first but I notice after the second dose a couple of hours later the throbbing stopped.

I alternated between the Goldenseal, the Silver and the Chamomile tea late last night, early this morning and all day today. The swelling is gone. The pain is minimal and I do believe another day or so of doing this and it would be totally under control.

I'm still going to the dentist tomorrow for safety sake but it was a good experience in case TSHTF and the Dentist isn't available.

So for the Herbal Health Kit I recommend Goldenseal tincture in Vegetable Glycerin along with Chamomile and Silver for teeh issues.

Hope that may help.

Just want to add to this now that I've seen the Dentist and took his proscibed penicillin.

The goldenseal not only took the swelling down, it also took away the pain. It also did nothing to me as far as how it made me feel.

The penicillin on the other hand knocked me out. I still have pain now that I'm on it but it made me so tired I took a three hour nap this afternoon. I took the second dose a couple of hours ago and I'm not as tired now but we'll see how it goes.

Til next time...

Abscess of your tooth ain't very far from the brain or spinal cord. People might keep that in mind.

Dang right Troke, serious stuff. Mine was so bad the penicillin did most of the job but I still had to take the goldenseal after the script was gone for a couple of days. The Dentist I go to knows how I am and told me to do both if I needed to. I needed to. I'm feeling good once again.

I had a severe sinus infection a few years back, and my doctor really didn't want to put me on antibiotics again because I'm allergic to almost all of them, and I've had way too many of them over the last decade. So, he recommended that I take goldenseal root extract. He said to take 10x the dosage on the bottle, so I did and it completely cleared up my sinus infection in about 2 weeks. Then a few months ago, I felt a flare up of diverticulitis coming on and I just couldn't stand the thought of going through yet another round of Cipro, so I thought "what the heck?" I started on the goldenseal root and was taking it for about a month and I got completely better. Goldenseal root is amazing stuff and I think that I will continue to use it when I would normally need an antibiotic.

Good for you Babs. I'm surprised he told you to take 10 times the normal dose though. Wow, that's alot. On the other hand most of the tinctures you buy in the stores are five to one standardized I believe so it would make sense. I make my own tinctures and they are all one to one so they are stronger and not standerized. Goldenseal when used for long periods will zap your B vitamins so keep that in mind. Also when I take herbal medicines of any sort and if I need to take them more than three days or so I go six days on and one day of rest to let my body adjust just like when God created the heavens and earth. :) It's an ole folk wise tale that may have some merit.

Glad you're feeling better.

St John's extract for pain & burns

St Johnswort for nerve pain is helpful and on burns soothing. St Johnswort oil mixed with garlic and mullien oils are excellent for an ear ache and St Johnswort is a very good antidepressant for mild to medium depression. It does make one photosensitive to sunlight but that should be a minor problem. For burns I always go for aloe and have many numerous plants about my house. When I take an aloe leaf I break off what I want to use while squeezing the rest of it shut. It works very well in keeping the plant happy and then I peel open the piece I broke off to expose the inner gel and smooth that over a burn. It's almost instantly gone. No scarring either. Great stuff.
