Saved, to glorify God.
Also, We HAVE TO realize that thanks to open borders we have people THROUGHOUT THIS NATION who were raised in a different culture, a culture that told them IT IS OK TO RAPE WOMEN WHO DRESS LIKE SHE DID IN PUBLIC, AS A PUNISHMENT FROM GOD FOR BEING IMMORAL, THEY EVEN FEEL JUSTIFIED!

I am even more broken hearted about this! My daughter told me she drives in to the entrance and then has to go through a security gate. She just started this job a week ago and I hope she’s not lying to me. Praying for this lady
Mom, let me assure you - even though it is, in general, an open campus, there are parking garages and other parking areas near the different buildings that are gated.

And they have a Campus Police Force that must pass the same police academy training that city/county/state officers must pass. These officers must be certified to do police work. And they are very professional.

i will share a story of something that happened to me a few years back, Mom. Maybe it will allay your fears a bit.

I drove an older SUV at the time, kind of rusted and maybe a bit distinguished looking because of that, but not THAT distinguished looking.

I had a professional conference in Lexington, Kenturky to go to, and was taking along a few graduate students with me, to help them save money.

That meant I could (and did) use an official university van from the motor pool to drive to KY and back.

The conference was several days long. We left on Monday morning and did not get back to Friday aftermoon.

I parked my car in the gated parking lot I always park in, and did not give it a second thought.

I never told anybody anything about what I was doing.

Friday afternoon, I got back and a colleague who went to KY with me but did not park on campus asked me to give him a ride home.

The inside of my car was a mess, so I went out a few minutes ahead of him to scoop up some of the trash and hide the stuff in the back where it would not be seen.

I was stooped over, with my head in the car and my butt and legs hanging on the outside when I heard this gruff voice tell me to get out of there.

It was Tony - one of the 3 to 11 shift campus police officers.

When I straightened myself up, I could see Tony was in a posture and place where he could have handled things, if that needed to be. But when he saw it was only me, he relaxed, we both broke out in a laugh.

”Sorry, Dr Barry,” he said to me. “I didn’t mean to startle you. I wasn’t sure why you left it here. But I have been watching your car for several days now. And when I saw somebody half in the car and half out, I figured I had better come investigate.”

Your daughter may not be in the best of cities, but the campus itself is relatively safe. This incident with Eliza happened on the outskirts of campus, not actually on it.

Still, it is prudent to be observant and careful while on the streets of Memphis.

Early TV reports said it was a “black man” that was seen on surveillance tape abducting her.

Later TV reports omitted that little detail, and just said it was “a man.”

(I tape local news broadcasts so I can watch the news late in the day - so I actually have this “black man” report recorded on the DVR.)

The area where this happened is the turf of the Gangsta Disciple gang - a black gang - so it is doubtful that it was a newly arrived illegal in this particular situation. Everybody knows you do not mess around on Gangsta Disciple turf. Even the MS-13 boys are afraid to do that.

Still, your observation is quite correct.

We all must thank good ole Uncle Biden and his friends for that….

Barry, I will be in
No, it was right near Central and Zach Curlin, right in front of the U of Memphis Earthquake Research building, and just a stone’s throw away from the northeast entrance to the main campus.
Barry, I will be in prayer for your friend. I'm sure that this was an area that she has been comfortable in for some time. Unfortunately, Memphis is changing quickly and not for the better. I can no longer bring myself to watch the local news, it's nothing but bad news all the time. I weep for what was once a wonderful southern city. I long ago left the city behind and make sure to never visit unarmed and certainly not after dark. Actually, my visits there are only to travel through, on my way to somewhere else. It is truly sad that people can no longer go about living their lives without the horror of the crime in Memphis. There is a reason they call it Little Chicago.

OK, the 10 pm Memphis news had more information. I do not know what to make of any of this, so please do not ask.

But here is what I just learned from WREG TV Channel 3 10 pm broadcast, and WMC TV Channel 5 10 pm broadcast.

She lives in the Central Garden district, Catskinner. On the corner of Carr Street and South Willett.

And the police spent much of the day going through her house with a fine tooth comb, looking for anything that might be evidence.

The abduction took place in a dark colored SUV (it is on surveillance video, so this is pretty much confirmed).

But the police towed away a white SUV from the home, along with a laptop.

Also, channel 3 reported that she is related to a federal judge (they did not saw which federal judge), and her grandfather is a well known philofantropist ( i know that has got to be misspelled). She is related to the family that owned the largest hardware store in the entire area in the 1950s and 1960’s, before Home Depot and Lowes came into the area.

Also, as I write this, investigators are on the scene at Overton Park. The news media does not know why at the time of the broadcast.

Who is Eliza Fletcher? Memphis teacher abducted during morning jog

Tennessee teacher Eliza Fletcher was abducted during her morning jog near the University of Memphis Friday

By Michael Ruiz | Fox News

"Eliza Fletcher, a 34-year-old Memphis mother of two who went by Liza, was snatched during an early morning jog Friday.

Investigators say that as the junior kindergarten teacher ran down a stretch of Central Avenue near the University of Memphis, she was "abducted and forced into a mid-sized, dark-colored SUV" at around 4:30 a.m.

Memphis Police tell Fox News Digital they received two calls around 7:45 a.m., one from Fletcher's husband Richard Fletcher III and one of the University. They found some of her belongings at the scene and were told that a male approached Fletcher and forced her into a dark SUV after a struggle.

She regularly jogged in the area, authorities said. Fletcher is an avid runner who has qualified for the Boston Marathon.

A Memphis Magazine wedding announcement reveals Fletcher married her husband Richard on March 8, 2014 at the Dixon Gallery and Gardens on Park Avenue. She is described as "outdoorsy, athletic and warm."

He has marked their anniversary on Instagram each year since, including with a series of selfies this year.

"[Eight] years in the making with this smoking hot babe," he wrote. "Wouldn’t want it any other way. Even if the stomach bug is running through our family!"

Fletcher’s parents declined to comment, and no one picked up the phone at the home she shares with her husband and two children. Images posted online showed a significant police presence there Friday evening.

In a March 2021 Instagram post, her husband, Richard Fletcher, marked their seven-year wedding anniversary with an image of them smiling over an outdoor brunch table.

"Yesterday marked 7 years married to this beauty!" he wrote. "If you were to ask us at year 3 if we would make it to 7 we probably would of said NO! We apparently weren’t given the memo that a healthy marriage is not going to come easy. Luckily, we put God/Recovery first, we were both willing to believe in each other, and asked for help."

He continued: "We are so thankful for individual counseling, couples counseling, recovery and friends! We can honestly say we wouldn’t have it any other way!"

Memphis police told Fox News Digital Friday evening that the husband and the couple's two children were OK. The spokesperson declined to comment further.

In an earlier news briefing, she said police were not aware of any connection between Fletcher's abduction and reports from the start of the semester that someone had been harassing members of the University of Memphis' women's cross-country team as they ran in the area.

Last year, the school where she works, St. Mary’s Episcopal School praised her in a Facebook post as someone whose "smile brightens every room she enters."

"She is a caring and passionate teacher who is always looking for creative ways to teach to all learners," the post reads.

In a letter to students on Friday, Head of School Albert Throckmorton wrote that Fletcher, who was identified as a "JK Teacher," "has been reported kidnapped early this morning."

She is a Baylor University alumna who earned her bachelor’s in exercise and sports science. She later received a master’s in teaching at Belmont University.

Fletcher was reported missing after not returning home at 7 a.m.

Fletcher is described as a White woman with blonde hair and green eyes. She is about 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs around 137 pounds. She was wearing a pink athletic top and purple running shorts, with her hair up and a matching headband.

Anyone with information related to the abduction is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH."

My daughter works at that university- ans this was close to the gate she enters for work. I’ll have to ask her if there’s a security guard or just a code she enters. Wonder if a security guard may have seen anyone scoping out this area or the joggers. My prayers for this woman to be found safe

If the gate is wired into the security system did anyone swipe an Employee ID (Access card) around that time?

The only gates are those leading into the various parking garages or parking lots that are located in different places around the large campus.

The campus itself is an open campus. You can drive right onto the public streets that are on the outskirts of the main campus. You do not need a card to get on the campus itself, nor is there a security tower or guard at the multiple street entrances.

On the other hand, there are lots of security cameras around, and they have an excellent campus police force.

BTW, the abduction happened on the outskirts of campus, not on campus.

It did happen right near the university’s Earthquake Reseaech building, but that building - which is actually inside what was once a private residence - is located across the street from the main campus, and is not considered to be located on campus.

I will no longer walk even around my neighborhood without protection of some type. Just last week I was late getting in and Rufus was going crazy for a walk. It was already dark and I didn't want to go but the alternative of a hyper dog all night wasn't good. So off we went. Didn't have anything with me because I'm just in the neighborhood....less than a mile from the house anyway I go. Well that won't happen again! As I was headed back a car came meeting me. I could hear their music and knew they saw my flashlight because they pulled over to the middle of the road. When they got beside me though they stopped. I realized it and sped up so I could get past the car quickly then jogged the rest of the way home. They sat there until I was well past them. Dh and I both figure they were up to something and didn't see Rufus till they were right at me. He's brown and most likely had blended in. Heck there are times I can't see him in the backyard he blends in so well. I was judging which neighbor I could run to or would hear me screaming this whole time..... So not a liberal just guilty of feeling safe in my own locale. Won't happen again though.

This lady probably felt the same way. In an area she had run in frequently and felt she knew the area to be safe. What we all need to realize though is we're not safe anywhere anymore......and that is sad. Praying for her safe return.

Pardon me, but you were a dumbass, and you’re lucky to still be breathing. I wonder how many dead women were “just in their neighborhood?”

maybe but I also know no one is getting near me without Rufus going after them. He's very protective and he was watching the car the whole time. Even while we jogged back he was looking back and watching them.
And I am still alive and breathing and learned my lesson. I'm now carrying every single time I leave my home.

I used run like that for 4 decades, all hours from middle of the day to middle of the night. I sometimes reflect on how dangerous so many of the places I ran have become. Everybody needs to understand how much things have changed in our America… :shk:
Yep. We live in the country, and we knew 20 years ago, it was dangerous for a woman, by herself, to be walking, running, out here. And then add in "at night" Here's your sign. And in a city like Memphis, much less Tupelo, say hi to St. Peter for us.

And it is a real tragedy, like what Barry said. When and if they catch the guy, I can't say everything I want to on that.

But it is a fact of everyday life. Even if you think you live in a safe place.

I sincerely hope she will be alright.

I will pray! And I'm also spreading the word in the real world.
*no one,* (female or male) should be out exercising alone
in the wee hours. And pack heat if you insist on those solo runs.
While it is true that should always go out with a group. But even then, always should be armed !!!

At the risk of sounding paranoid, I carry my firearm all the time even while in my house. The calculus goes like this:

It takes me two seconds to unholster the gun and acquire a target. Two seconds. One-one-thousand, two-one-thousand, BANG.

Even if you have a gun in the same room, calculate how long it’ll take to retrieve the gun and acquire the target. Five seconds? Maybe seven? A lot can happen in 5 seconds.

Situational awareness at all times. Memphis in the AM? I’ll be needing more than just a sidearm. In fact, a few years ago I decided to never again get on a boat (due to seasickness), and to never again go into a large city (due to the number of potential threats). The quality of my life has not suffered, not one bit.

Very few marriages nowadays are without their troubles and their dramas. Getting marriage counseling can point to a problem, but it can also point to a very healthy marriage where both parties are willing to work together to make it better.

I have not picked up on anything at this time that makes me think hubby was involved.

The cops will check out the family early on. Even if there is no reason to suspect them.

Barry could be wrong, of course. But I don’t see anything to suspect the family at this time.

Eliza running - alone - in this city, at 4:30am was - undoubtably - a bad thing for her to do. I think she did it because she wanted to get a run and a shower in before the kids woke up and she had to start being a Mom, and then later, a school teacher.

In this day and age, probably no lady should run alone, anywhere, like that.

But it is a crying shame that a lady runner is no longer safe running in solitude, if that is what she desires!

It angers me that things have degenerated to this point.

No lady should fear going out for a nice, refreshing run, at the time and place that she chooses.

But that IS what this world has degenerated into.

:bwl:

God, please protect Eliza tonight, and in the days and weeks to come.

And if it be thy will, help her to find a way back home.

Women joggers running alone has never been "safe" or "smart" even back when I was in track and field in highschool. Women always think "it won't/can't happen to me." It is foolish. It has been happening to women since the world started turning. Even Tamar, daughter of David, was not safe even in her father's palace or from her own brother.

I swear God must have hidden a "stupid gene" in the human race.

Women joggers running alone has never been "safe" or "smart" even back when I was in track and field in high school.

I blame feminism to some extent. Stupid women were telling impressionable young women that it was their right to go anywhere at any time, and they needed to exercise that right.

If they had maybe included the admonition to become a crack shot and always carry heat and to not be afraid to kill criminals who threatened them, then it might have worked out a little better.

What we all need to realize though is we're not safe anywhere anymore......and that is sad.
NOWHERE is absolutely safe....not even in your own home. ESPECIALLY in the city surrounded by people, and not even in the countryside NOT surrounded by people. Where ever there is a potential for evil, you will find evil. Sad fact of life, ESPECIALLY for ladies, but no one is immune and they NEVER WERE!

Heck not too long back a kid in the L.A. area was in his bedroom playing a game on his computer when a random bullet came through the side of the house and killed him.....IN HIS BEDROOM!! I see people up here on the mountain jogging with ear buds or headphones on oblivious to what is going on around them, or walking their dog(s) with head phone on or talking on the cellphone not paying any attention to their surroundings.....not only do we have two-legged vermin in the area (automatically assumed where ever there are humans) but Mountain Lions, Bears, Coyotes, Wolves, stray feral dogs, Foxes, Bobcats....who knows, maybe even Chupacabras and Big Foots.

Praying. The negative posts about this poor woman on this thread are disturbing. Yes, it showed a lack of judgement. Who among us didn't show a lack of judgement at some point in our lives. I know I have. IMO, the negative comments should be saved for the horrible people who did this. Use the energy you might spend typing out criticisms to pray for her. A beautiful young mother of two may be deceased or worse. It's a horrible situation.
Praying for her and her family.

My personal opinion, FWIW, is that human traffickers went cruisin by the university for a young, small featured, attractive female to abduct and sell.

I do not think they went specifically after Eliza Fletcher. I think they were more looking for a college kid, but ended up with her.

Because her (and her family’s) well placed contacts, I figure they have realized by now that they abducted a hot potato - not a random college kid - and are trying to figure out what to do now.

It will be hard to sell her because of the publicity surrounding her.

So I don’t know what they will do. I fear they might kill her, to get rid of her. Or ship her out of the country ASAP.

I sincerely hope I am wrong.

Please note - I have no information to base this on.

It is just my opinion. Nothing more.

And I hope I am wrong.
