Guy at work has a James Washer he is looking to sell. Anyone have one? What do you think? Are they worth $150?

If it comes with the wringer I would get it quickly. Even without the wringer I would consider it. My mother had one when we lived overseas and it did the job well. Before she got the James washer she washed clothes in the river by rubbing them on rocks so the James was highly regarded. It is very sturdy and we kids thought it a treat to help! No problem getting clothes clean as you can keep the handle going until you see they are clean, The strong village style bar soap we grated helped.

Lehman’s has them, price $899.00. They are also the manufacturer. I don’t know how to post photos but there is a good photo at Lehman’s.

YES! Sure brings back memories! Thanks Millwright! As kids helping Mom with the James washer was a treat, not a chore. Of course living in an very isolated village at the base of Mt. Pinatubo with water buffalo transportation, water carried from the one village well, and no electricity...we were easily entertained. Sincerely miss those days where the outer world could only intrude when Dad briefly turned on the short wave battery radio. The most advanced technology in addition to the radio in our thatched roof bamboo home were a Singer foot pedal sewing machine and the James washer.

Well its in worse shape than I thought. The wringer rollers will both need replacing. The bolts that the agitator are held on with are in need of replacement with their plastic sleeves and the bolt that holds the handle on. Got an email into Lehmans about parts. I can probably make or modify everything but the rollers if the stuff is too expensive. I do have another clothes wringer somewhere in the shop.

Got her running this afternoon. $8 worth of parts and pieces at the hardware store. Has 2 leaks. Both are just slow drips. I can run a bead of silicone around the edges and fix that. Wringer rollers will run $100 for a replacement pair so that is going to be a bit before I replace those.
