On Thursday, St. Petersburg police in Florida announced that they will not be responding to non-violent 911 calls going forward. The announcement comes after the Left has been constantly attacking the police force and have been calling to defund the police.

The St. Petersburg Police Department (SPPD) will instead be creating a new division which will provide “a social service agency to respond to non-violent calls for service from the public.”

Check out the incidences below that the police department will no longer be responding to:

  • Disorderly intoxication
  • Drug overdose
  • Intoxicated person
  • Mental health crisis
  • Suicide crisis
  • Mental Health Transport
  • Disorderly juvenile/truancy
  • Disorderly Juvenile at Elementary Schools
  • Panhandling
  • Homeless complaints
  • Neighborhood dispute

According to their press release, the SPPD said that in the year of 2019, “the Police Department responded to approximately 12,700 calls for service on the above issues (out of a total of 259,800 calls for service).”

Check out what the Daily Wire reported:

The new CAL department will now handle the above calls instead of trained police officers. The new division will also replace a previous commitment to hire an additional 25 officers over the next two years.
The Police Department will lose $3,125,000 in federal grant funding awarded to pay for the new officers and $3,800,000 the City had earmarked in matching funds required by the grant. The City will instead use those funds to pay for this new service,” the SPPD said in its press release.
The SPPD said it would monitor calls where a member of the CAL was dispatched “for one year to determine whether this approach has been successful or whether officers were still required to respond to these issues in addition to the CAL team member.”
Law Enforcement Today – a police-centric news outlet – tweeted in response to the SPPD’s decision that “Not every 911 call starts violent – but many of them end that way. This is a catastrophe waiting to happen… and it’s spreading across America.”
During a press conference, Police Chief Anthony Holloway said that the decision was made in response to the death of George Floyd.

“Now after all those conversations, we had one common goal, and that common goal is very simple. Our citizens is asking for change. The city of St. Petersburg and the police department is ready for that change,” Holloway said.

“When a police officer responds to these calls, these are non-violent calls. These are calls that people are asking for help. Our police department is very young, the average age is about 25, and some of these men and women don’t even have kids at home, but we’re asked sometimes to help someone raise their kids,” he added. “We’re sometimes asked someone -to help someone, that has a mental issue. Yes, we go to a lot of training, but we don’t have enough training. We’re not experts in that.”

“If it gets to the point where the officers are responding to that, then that would be a conversation you’d have to have with the mayor again to see, this isn’t working, but we’re going to make this work, because this is what the community is asking for, this is the change that they are, part of the change that they’ve been wanting, this is the change that we’re going to give them,” Holloway said.

Talk is cheap
Threaten to take away their food stamps??? That WILL get the "social worker" killed and buried.

Wonder how many people are going to turn up missing...oh-oh...in thinking about this further, and connecting dots, I don't like any of this one bit.

There is a sickness and rot spreading across America, and a mask ain't going to fix anything.

I didn't see any mention of burglaries. They are non-violent by definition. So no response?

If so, free reign to break in to anything.

Neither here nor there.
I know someone who retired yesterday after a 15 year career serving as a state trooper in Oklahoma, yesterday. From the sounds of it several other troopers from his area are also looking at retiring... said it just wasn't worth the risk anymore with no support from higher up.

This is no joke! Though I doubt they will bury the guy. Side of the road most likely.

The only time we took in a government sponsored tenant it went south really bad. The guy only had to pay a few bucks per month. Something like $80 and he had a place all set forever.

Well he decided not to pay and we did the proper things and got him evicted. They then cut off his housing as he was not following the program. Boy was he pissed. Being cut off the program cost him his housing allowance, food stamps, energy subsidies, free medical and what not. It was more than I make per month when added up.

To say he was pissed is really an understatement. It took him a few years to work his way through the program to get such bennies. It was a private one that got government grants. Being white and male, he did not get the usual bennies.

It was the only time where I actually thought I would have to shoot a tenant to protect myself.

Their free sh*t is no joke to them.

Yep you are correct. The police chiefs, mayors, and district attorneys have been throwing the troops under the bus for a very long time. Time to pull the plug when possible.

I have indeed seen this ad. It's a beauty. Hopefully it will bring a few folks to Trump. The best part is that it's valid whether it turns out Joe gets the nomination in August or not.

basically anywhere this takes effect the social workers will be carrying concealed guns. And probably a vest and tool belt that looks an awful lot like a cops. radio, Taser, mace, several handcuffs, possible a baton. Also a visible "badge." Otherwise they wont be able to do their job. How many "disorderly intoxicated" people do you think are going to just need a pep talk and ride to the shelter? Not many. Many are going to need a violent arrest and possibly shot. They won't find enough "social workers" to do this kind of work without ADEQUATE protection. This is WHY cops wear guns to PROTECT THEMSELVES AGAINST ATTACK when performing their legal duties. The fact cops SHOOT so many people is EVIDENCE they need the guns... the disconnect the left have is this:

IT IS LEGAL TO SHOOT VIOLENT ATTACKERS. It doesn't matter if they are "unarmed." Violent attackers can be shot anywhere, anytime, by ANYONE. No cop needed. The left HATES THIS.. because communist coercion has always relied on bullies and violent gangs, and that is not going to go well in America... but the left ABHORS any counter-violence. The left sees itself as the 'authority" and "moral authority" with a monopoly on violence.. that is why they hate defenders. Thuggery does not work well with an armed populace.

Of course, just pointing out that the ramifications may not be avoided just by the retention of brass.

On TB every waking moment
5150s (mental health) calls really shouldn't be regular LE. In my experience, the mental health professionals would refuse to deal with them as long as they were "under the influence." They said they could not properly assess them. Our rural hospital refused to take them while they detoxed. We had no detox facility and they couldn't just be incarcerated. So, the cop would have to sit in the lobby of the hospital with the person until they sobered up or got so bad detoxing that they were admitted to the ER. All that time, LE was unavailable for other calls.

Mental health should have a specialized response team to bridge this gap, while keeping the patient restrained and the public safe.

The Chief says this is the change the public wants and we're going to give it to them. Good for him. When the city is set on fire he'll say, "Isn't this what you wanted?" YOU created this mess, now get yourself out of it.

Hmmm, friend texted my son back a little while ago and said that her phone died and that she looked it up herself and that I was wrong, and then she repeats the exact same thing I told her as being true. People.......... My son just texted her back and said sounds reasonable thanks for responding. It will be a while for her. I knew she was, uh, prone to flying off the handle but not this bad. Yikes. Son says it's probably as close as she can come to apologizing.

Doesn’t matter. What they WON’T have is the hundreds of hours of training the cops get OR the physical conditioning. Some 400 lb niggaho that’s wheezing just walking from the car to the call isn’t going to be able to function in a crisis. There are going to be many unnecessary deaths and maimings over this on a national basis, until these morons in charge are changed-out for intelligent leadership.

There are tens-of-millions of people in this country who are as on the knife-edge of sanity as she. Many of them are armed, and just looking for a conservative to kill. Don’t doubt me on this; the sky screamers want us dead, and if Trump wins in November it’s open season. If Trump LOSES in November it’s open season. Carry a firearm with you EVERY MOMENT you’re out of your house. Make sure you’ve already made peace with the potential need to take a life in defense of your own or your loved ones.

It’s coming. THIS YEAR. Be ready.

I don't have a lot of respect for cops as it is. Essentially, their job is to rob citizens, mostly white, with speed traps on the roads. Then, they drive around in their unmarked cars trying to rob citizens for going 5mph over the limit...and not even in school zones. Meanwhile, if you need a cop it is too late...ALWAYS.

Cops get to take their cars home, too. They have outstanding pension plans to boot. They take home UNMARKED cars. Cops were initially allowed to take home cars and be a police presence in the hoods. That doesn't work too well with unmarked cars. Half the time, I see the cop wives driving the cop car around...where I live anyway.
