MoveOn.Org Wants Congressional Probe of Vote 'Integrity'

By Melanie Hunter, Deputy Managing Editor

November 12, 2004

(CNSNews.com) - MoveOn.org, the anti-Bush, liberal advocacy group, is circulating an online petition, asking Congress to conduct a "full investigation into whether the presidential election was conducted honestly or not." "Also, share your personal story if you have one," MoveOn.org says in a message on its website. "Members of Congress will use it (your story of voting problems) in their call for an investigation." MoveOn.org says "six prominent members of Congress" already have requested an investigation into voting irregularities - and a decision on whether such an investigation will take place could come on Monday.

My guess, and this is only a guess (not an accusation), is that MoveOn is sensing a good portion of their donations drying up. Think about it, they raked in millions of dollars from Bush haters, but what did they achieve? Nothing, except riling up people who already hated President Bush. I think it will be harder for them to raise as much money next time since they failed their objective in this election.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this group formed in response to the Clinton impeachment? As in, "yes he schtupped Lewinsky, let's move on."

Well, they've been moving on, to any issue that supports their agenda.

Are you getting nervous, O6?

Moveon.org was a brilliant idea, that allowed millions of Americans to actually access their "elected" officials - it was a PAC, with money, and could actually get a foot in the door to express an opinion. For years now, elected officials have lost their purporse, since they don't represent their constituents - they vote according to either their personal beliefs, or because of some corporate/industry PAC bending their ear, or to further their party's goals, or because of some deal that was reached.

From what I recall (from its beginnings some years ago), moveon would present issues on the Internet, members would vote, and then the issues with most votes were advocated and presented to Congress. It's like the NRA, with it's frequent mailers, but electronic.

If anything, I suspect it's donations and support base are both growing.

Yes, you are correct. However, it has become a primary Dem political action group, focused upon fundraising, slanderous propaganda and getting out the Dem vote in elections.

LOL! Whiney losers do not make anyone nervous.

"Moveon.org was a brilliant idea, that allowed millions of Americans to actually access their "elected" officials...."
While I completely agree that it was a brilliant idea, the claim that MoveOn.org "allowed millions of Americans to actually access their "elected" officials" is a grotesque lie. It is strictly a propaganda and fundraising mill, nothing more. They pontificate, but they do not listen (unless you are cheering them on).

I hate to burst your bubble, but by next election the 527 groups, including MoveOn.org, will be history, a loophole in campaign finance reform laws that will be closed. In fact, it was the campaign finance laws that created MoveOn.org, as when the flow of political money for unlimited campaign ads was restricted, the 527 groups were an end-run around that law.

Myself, I am against 'campaign finance reform', as it is a gross violation of the First Amendment and the right of political campaigns to persue any means desired to get out their message, IMO. The 527s should have never been necessary.
