BREAKING: Trump lists his demands:

Iran must agree that they will never have a Nuclear Weapon or Bomb. The Hormuz Strait must be immediately open, no tolls, for unrestricted shipping traffic, in both directions. All water mines (bombs), if any, will be terminated (we have removed, through detonation, numerous such mines with our great underwater mine sweepers.

Iran will complete the immediate removal and/or detonation of any mines that are left, which will not be many!). Ships caught in the Strait due to our amazing and unprecedented Naval Blockade, which will now be lifted, may start the process of “heading home!” Say HELLO to your wives, husbands, parents, and families from me, your favorite President!

The enriched material, sometimes referred to as “Nuclear Dust,” which is buried deep underground with virtually collapsed mountains, caused by our powerful B2 Bomber attack 11 months ago, sitting on top of it, will be unearthed by the United States (which, it is agreed, is the only Country, along with China, with the mechanical capability of doing so!), in close coordination and conjunction with the Islamic Republic of Iran, plus the International Atomic Energy Agency, and DESTROYED.

No money will be exchanged, until further notice. Other items, of far less importance, have been agreed to. I will be meeting now, in the Situation Room, to make a final determination. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth told American troops aboard the USS Boxer in Singapore that Iran would face US military forces if it refused to accept a deal, citing remarks by President Donald Trump at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday. Hegseth quoted Trump as telling the cabinet that Iran must either accept the deal on the table "the right way" or face "the man on my left," adding that he was that person — but directing the remark to the assembled troops.

BREAKING: Iran's Fars: Trump is misrepresenting the Iran deal terms. He claimed Iran agreed to open the Strait of Hormuz for free and dismantle its nuclear materials — neither is in the actual text. The US must immediately unblock $12 billion in Iranian assets before talks can proceed, and a full ceasefire in Lebanon (on Hezbollah's terms) is also required. The deal is still awaiting final approval in Iran. Informed sources describe Trump's statements as a mix of truth and fabrication — an attempt to claim a premature victory.

Iran just published a point-by-point rebuttal of Trump's Truth Social post Their version of the deal: no clause requiring Hormuz to be toll-free, no uranium destruction, and two things Trump didn't mention at all. $12 billion in frozen assets released immediately before anything else moves, and a ceasefire in Lebanon as a precondition. So Trump announced a deal where Iran gives up its nuclear program and opens Hormuz for free. Iran announced a deal where the US pays $12 billion upfront and stops the Lebanon war first. These are not the same deal. Someone is lying, someone is spinning, or there are two completely different documents floating around the same negotiation. The Situation Room is still meeting. FR24 recently detected the deployment of the US strategic reconnaissance and electronic warfare aircraft, the RC-135W Rivet Joint (call sign OLIVE25), heading directly from its main base at RAF Mildenhall in the UK to the Chania (Souda Bay) base on the Greek island of Crete.

This movement cannot be dismissed as routine. The Rivet Joint is the Pentagon's premier platform for signals intelligence (SIGINT), communications interception, and radar frequency scanning. Deploying it now to reinforce the intelligence squadron stationed in Crete coincides with the US administration entering the operations room and the collapse of de-escalation efforts.

This strategic positioning indicates that US Central Command is expanding its electronic umbrella over the theater of operations. It is conducting precise, real-time updates of regional air defense and radar maps—a classic operational measure that invariably precedes decisions to launch large-scale strategic strikes to secure safe corridors for attack aircraft. The Pentagon's electronic eyes are mobilizing in preparation for the coming hours.

Newt Gingrich:

After spending this week reviewing the Iranian war I am now convinced President Trump is on the edge of an historic victory.

The real breakthrough for me came as I reviewed President Trump’s decisions and maneuvers not from the standpoint of American unilateralism but from the standpoint of the leader of a remarkable historic coalition, the largest coalition ever put together in the modern Middle East.

Everyone understands that Israel is an important ally.

What is little discussed is the depth of support from the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and other countries in the region.

It has to be sobering for the Iranian dictatorship to realize that it does not have a single ally willing to challenge the American naval blockade.

Slowly, gradually, timidly, our European allies are lining up to help with the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.

A great deal of President Trump’s maneuvers against Iran make sense once he is seen as a coalition leader and not just as a unilateral American President.

I spent a lot of the last couple weeks reviewing kinetic options including wining the battle of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz and if necessary using the shocking and shattering level of force President Nixon and Secretary Kissinger used against Hanoi and Haiphong in Christmas 1972 (which both leaders believed convinced the North Vietnamese to agree to a truce and the freeing of American POWs).

If this were a unilateral American campaign I could enthusiastically support a more aggressive kinetic campaign.

However it is also clear it would shatter the coalition because our Arab allies are convinced Iran could still do enormous damage to their oil fields and infrastructure.

Coalitions are inherently slower than unilateral campaigns.

However coalitions ultimately bring vastly more power to the fight.

I am as frustrated as everyone else by the pace of talking with the dictatorship but having reviewed the correlation of forces and the options available to the coalition on one side and the Iranian religiously motivated dictatorship on the other I am prepared to assert that President Trump’s coalition leadership (something almost none of his critics want to acknowledge) is within reach of an enormous historic victory.

And if the Iranian dictatorship ultimately proves it is hopelessly committed to a suicidal position there will be plenty of time for a kinetic campaign of enormous power and effectiveness.

Either way we are on the edge of an astonishing victory for our values and for a safer Middle East.

BREAKING: US Navy Central Command and UKMTO just issued a critical warning to all ships in the Strait of Hormuz that major US military operations will soon be conducted there, citing Iran's "dangerous and illegal mining," with US forces on "high alert for Iranian attack" anticipating retaliation. Any vessel obstructing the operation or "supporting mine-laying activities WILL BE TARGETED BY U.S. FORCES."

The same type of UKMTO warning was issued on June 11, 2025, with the Twelve Day War starting the next day. Trump has also just concluded his 2-hour Situation Room meeting with no decision on any deal.

BREAKING: U.S. Navy Central Command has warned mariners that CENTCOM will conduct military operations in the Strait of Hormuz, north of Oman's Musandam Peninsula

The notice carries two pointed messages.

USNAVCENT advised vessels to coordinate with the United States when transiting the strait.

And it warned that any vessel caught laying mines or supporting mine laying will be targeted.

The U.S. is telling ships to clear their passage with Washington rather than Iran's permit authority.

This directly challenges the PGSA system Tehran built to control Hormuz.

It is Trump's "we're going to watch over it" turned operational.

As he weighs his final determination on the deal, the Navy is standing up an American transit regime in the strait, on American terms.

Get up to speed

No1
May 30, 2026

TL;DR: today vs. yesterday

The Iran "deal" went from Axios leak to full pantomime: Trump posted explicit demands on Truth Social, declared the naval blockade lifted, then convened a 2-hour Situation Room meeting that ended with no decision — while Iran rejected every clause within hours. Bessent boasted of "outright grabbing" $1B in Iranian crypto wallets. Everything else is continuation with a sharper edge — oil-shock warnings from Exxon AND Chevron, an S&P blow-off top, and Hezbollah turning Merkavas into scrap.

1. Critical Alerts

  • Iran-US "deal" announced and denied on the same day. Trump's Truth Social demands (Hormuz open with no tolls, mines destroyed, HEU "unearthed & destroyed," blockade lifted, no money exchanged "until further notice") were rejected point-by-point by Iran via Fars, Mehr and Tasnim — no free Hormuz passage, $12B frozen assets to be released first, nuclear file "not and will not be discussed." Situation Room meeting ended with no final determination. Multi-source: Trump's terms, Iran rejection via Fars, Baghaei MFA. HIGH
  • Exxon AND Chevron warn of an imminent oil shock. Exxon's Neil Chapman: "approaching unheard of inventory levels," models point to $150-160 dated Brent within weeks once inventories bottom; Chevron's Wirth sees prices rising over the next two months (Exxon warning, Top Overnight News/FT). Oil instead fell below $87 on deal headlines — the divergence is the story. HIGH
  • Romania admits the Galati drone was diverted by Ukrainian air defence. President Nicusor Dan: a Russian Geran-2 targeting the Ukrainian port of Reni was hit by Ukrainian EW and diverted across the border into a Galati apartment block. NATO/EU had already blamed Russia; Romania still closed the Russian consulate in Constanta (Dan admission, consulate closure). HIGH
  • S&P prints a blow-off top as AI funds on record debt. Record close, 9-week win streak (longest since 2023), +$11.4T market cap in two months; 70% of all option volume in calls; Buffett Indicator 236% all-time high (Kobeissi, calls 70%, Buffett Indicator). Anthropic shopping a ~$36B debt deal; Moody's flags $662B data-center funding risk. HIGH
  • Hezbollah is dismantling IDF armour in South Lebanon. 6 Merkavas struck in one day (3 seen burning), the commander of the IDF 401st Armored Brigade wounded, a Hermes 450 downed, Iron Dome launcher hit by FPV at Ras Naqoura (6 Merkavas, brigade commander). HIGH

2. Core Themes

Iran-US: Trump declares blockade lifted; Iran rejects every clause; $300B "fund" surfaces

  • Trump lifted the "amazing and unprecedented" naval blockade and asked Iran to destroy its HEU "with US support," saying no frozen money exchanged for now (Kobeissi).
  • Iran's counter-narrative (Fars): deal is "commitment for commitment," demands immediate $12B release plus a full Lebanon ceasefire on Hezbollah's terms before any nuclear/sanctions talk; Hormuz stays under "exclusive Iranian sovereign arrangements" (Hormuz Letter, Arya summary). FM Araghchi: Hormuz administration to be settled by Iran and Oman (Araghchi).
  • $300B "international reconstruction investment fund" reported (NYT via Kobeissi) — flagged by several as a vehicle to route contracts, with Iran's frozen assets possibly replaced by GCC/US money (Kobeissi $300B).
  • CENTCOM warned it will strike mine-laying ships in self-defence north of Musandam; "Operation Sledgehammer"/Title 10 chatter circulating (CENTCOM).
  • Vance: Trump "not yet ready to endorse," US and Iran at odds on enrichment and stockpiles. Bremmer's expected outcome: strait opens, 60-day ceasefire, Qatar transfers $6B, nuclear talks restart-and-stall (Bremmer). Confidence: HIGH.

Oil: deal headlines drive price down while physical inventories scream the opposite

  • WTI below $87 first time since April 21 on "final determination" headlines (Kobeissi oil); RBC warns a "Memento" mindset on "over soon" headlines risks a catastrophic hard landing (RBC).
  • US distillate inventories lowest since 2003; Japan crude imports fell 66% to a record low; ~50MB pulled from the SPR over three months with ~365MB left (distillate, Japan imports, SPR).
  • KarelMercx's tell: oil falls on the deal, but "the world runs on refined products like diesel" — six-month diesel forwards rising (diesel). Nuttall calls it the most asymmetric oil trade since April 2020 (Nuttall). Hormuz traffic still thin (minenergybiz). Confidence: HIGH.

Bessent grabs $1B Iranian crypto → the gold-and-dedollarization chorus

  • Bessent: US "outright grabbed the wallets," ~$1B seized, Iran allegedly stealing $400-500M/month (Bessent). Martenson and others: this is the live demonstration that crypto isn't confiscation-proof, only self-custodied metal is (Martenson).

Loose ends: Canada recession, Yemen MQ-9, NDAA Section 224

  • Houthis shot down a US MQ-9 Reaper over Yemen (Marib); confirmed by multiple OSINT accounts and acknowledged by Macgregor (IranObserver, MenchOsint confirmed). Separately, Iran's TV claim of downing a US jet near Bushehr was denied by the US military.
  • NDAA Section 224 "US-Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative" — co-production, R&D and "data fusion" — drawing fire across the spectrum as deep military integration buried in the bill (DD Geopolitics, Davis). Partisan framing; treat the legislative facts as the signal. Confidence: MEDIUM (single primary text, many reactors).

3. Weak Signals

  • Saudi privately asked Washington to rein in the UAE. Riyadh complained in early April that UAE retaliatory strikes on Iranian targets (Bandar Abbas, Asaluyeh) risked Gulf-wide energy infrastructure and spiking oil (FirstSquawk). New angle on the intra-GCC split. LOW.
  • Iran rail to China. Iran reportedly moving LNG and oil to China by railway via the Silk Road line, with Pakistan importing LNG via Iran (Fars-sourced) (Shaykh Sulaiman). If real, a partial Hormuz workaround. LOW.

"... The U.S. struck Iranian boats laying mines in Hormuz this week, and Iran has been claiming the deal would have Oman help manage the strait.

An Iranian mine drifting into Omani waters undercuts both the safety case and the partnership Tehran wanted.

It also hands Washington more justification for the transit regime USNAVCENT just announced.

Trump Toughens the Terms of Potential Deal

Fresh Sunday reporting in the NY Times says President Trump has responded to Iran's refusal to budge on giving up its nuclear material by tightening US conditions as part of a Memorandum of Understanding to get back to the peace negotiating table.
"President Donald Trump has toughened the terms of a potential framework for a deal to end the war in Iran, and has sent those proposed changes back to Iran for consideration, according to three officials," NY Times writes, but didn't disclose what the precise changes are.
The report then speculates on where these changes likely focus: "Trump has been concerned about parts of the potential deal that would include unfreezing funds for the Iranians, two officials said."
Citing frustration at the slow pace of Iran's response to the proposals, it adds, "He has been harshly critical of President Barack Obama for doing the same in the more than decade-old agreement that was signed to curtail Iran’s nuclear program."
Tightening the proposals is meant to ratchet up the pressure and 'force' the Islamic Republic to respond quicker and agree to a deal. However, the Iranians have time and again rejected being 'dictated to' by Washington, as its top negotiator Ghalibaf spelled out days ago.
Meanwhile there's been a recent change in tone when talking about Iran's military, from Trump himself:
"We’ve actually left their military alone — people would be surprised to hear that."
President Trump says Iran's military hasn't been hit as aggressively because it's "somewhat moderate" compared to other elements of the regime.
He argues that wiping out "everybody" could cause… pic.twitter.com/gG84lDSrlD
— Fox News (@FoxNews) May 31, 2026

Iran Still Not Budging on Nuclear File

This also comes after a two-hour Friday Situation Room meeting Friday wherein it became clear there was no deal yet to be finalized. According to more from the Times:
The official added that Trump’s changes — a new, tougher proposal — were potentially intended to speed up the process by putting pressure on Iran to accept the framework already sent to Iran’s supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, for approval.
Reaching the supreme leader has been difficult, so any changes to the document, known as the memorandum of understanding, could mean additional delays.
But for pressure to work, there has to be signs Iranian leaders are getting nervous or desperate - and so far they've not urged Washington or Pakistani mediators for some kind of grand compromise. Instead they've repeatedly sworn that Iran's highly enriched uranium will never be transferred to the possession of the United States.

Iran Decries Constant False 'Speculation'

The Sunday latest from Iran's Foreign Ministry:
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, says “dialogue and an exchange of messages are ongoing” with the United States amid stalled negotiations.
He told Iranian news agency IRNA that “it is not possible to judge until a clear conclusion is reached; everything that is being said now is speculation and should not be taken seriously until it is certain”.

Bessent: Iran's 'Big Mistake'

Still, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is busy on the Sunday news shows talking tough. He told Fox in a new interview that Iran made a "big mistake" by attacking its neighbors in the Persian Gulf, within the past week. A US base in Kuwait was also reportedly just attacked by a ballistic missile, which was reportedly intercepted - but falling debris injured five US personnel.
"We had many very good allies who maybe weren't completely transparent with us on the money — Iranian money that was in their banking systems — all of a sudden became very compliant in terms of being willing to turn over accounts or help us freeze block accounts," Bessent told Fox News.
"And then the third part was the incredible blockade. I really think it's the economic blockade of funds and the physical blockade of the ships not going in or out of the Iranian ports," he added. "Kharg Island is shut down. That's their big oil loading facilities, and that means that they're going to have to start taking down the wells," Bessent said. And yet, there's nothing officially disclosed to show this is actually happening - though the Iranians have no incentive to publicize it. But time will tell.
Bessent:
A big mistake that the Iranians made was attacking their GCC neighbors, their neighbors in the Gulf, because we had many very good allies who maybe weren't completely transparent with us on the money, Iranian money that was in their banking systems, all of a sudden… pic.twitter.com/trfonLETXI

IDF Plunges Deep into Lebanon, Captures Crusader Castle

Some Lebanon war latest, via Al Jazeera, as ceasefire unravels:
  • Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he has “instructed the Israeli military to expand the maneuver in Lebanon” after the occupation of the strategic Beaufort Castle, which he says marks “a dramatic change” in Israel’s operations.
  • The Israeli military claims to have killed 900 Hezbollah “terrorists” since the start of the “ceasefire” on April 16. It added that the army had struck dozens of Hezbollah sites since this morning.
  • Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has accused Israel of pursuing a “scorched-earth policy” as Israeli forces expand their ground invasion.

TAKE | Hezbollah has constructed extensive tunnel systems and underground assets along the Beaufort Ridge.
The IDF fired upon some of those assets as they took over the castle and the high ground.

Tunnel systems such as the ones shown are not just holes dug randomly into the side of hills. Hezbollah has spent several years constructing large networks of tunnels throughout southern Lebanon for various purposes including; transporting fighters to and from battles, providing storage facilities for rockets and equipment, and creating safe areas for their fighters to survive in after their homes have been destroyed by airstrikes.

Even if there were a small number of tunnels on the high ground of a ridge like Beaufort, Hezbollah could be able to hide behind those tunnel systems and then emerge unexpectedly and/or move to another location without being detected from the air.

The IDF may take away Hezbollah's advantages (observation, etc.) when they take control of the high ground. However, removing Hezbollah's ability to utilize the high ground will make it difficult for them to do so freely.

Removing or destroying the tunnel systems that exist beneath the surface area will require additional time and greater risk than simply taking control of the surface area.

As a result, this portion of fighting (what is happening currently around Beaufort) continues to go on longer than would have been expected had it only required planting an Israeli flag on top of the castle.

US Navy Issues Warning

The U.S. Navy has warned commercial shipping that “dangerous military activities” will take place in and around the Strait of Hormuz, cautioning that vessels suspected of supporting mine-laying operations could be targeted and that the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports remains in force.

The warning was issued May 29 by U.S. Naval Forces Central Command through the Joint Maritime Information Center and shared with shipping operators via the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations office. It comes as Washington and Tehran continue negotiations over a possible agreement to extend a fragile ceasefire and prevent a resumption of war.

“The maritime security threat level in the [Strait of Hormuz] remains critical due to ongoing military conflict,” said the advisory, which was issued on the same day that President Donald Trump called for the narrow shipping lane connecting the Persian Gulf to global markets to be “immediately open” and that any mines set in the strait by Iranian forces must be “terminated.”
