Taken hostage? I'm fully expecting a bombing or suicide gunmen attack against the US delegation.
A distinct possibility but nothing would make this country look weaker than VP Vance being executed on TV. Or begging for his life. While being paraded around.
These people are not to be trusted. The thinkers are not in charge. If they can gun down 40 thousand of their own people. They are capable of anything.
He is the number 2 guy in this country. He is indispensable

This is good.
This may mean that the new regime WILL be right on schedule to handle the midterms.

Revolutionaries and cultists often turn on each other under stress. It happened after the French Revolution and the Russian Revolution.

The Pentagon summoned the Pope's ambassador, told him the United States has the military power to do "whatever it wants," and warned that the Church better take its side.
They even invoked the Avignon Papacy, a dark chapter in history when a government used military force to bend the Church to its will.
So where exactly does this end? If the Pope refuses to fall in line, what's the next move, bomb the Vatican?
Why should anyone pay attention to a pope's political opinion?

Even more alarming to the mullahs and IRGC, that device that can pick out heartbeats from 40 miles away, had to be located well-inside Iran's borders to be close enough to locate that downed airman.

Located well inside Iran and used by CIA agents located well inside Iran. I imagine there are some elevated heartbeats being picked up by that device right now since those mullahs and IRGC leaders realize how exposed they could be.

Which makes me wonder if that story is a bit of a head-trip they're laying on the Moolahs.

Doing our work for us. Sound like movement in the right direction. The ones negotiating obviously did not have communications, let alone authority.

No need to worry! Keir Starmer is in the region in a perfectly timed good-will mission. (Luckily he didn't sail there.)
From Grok:

Starmer is currently in the Gulf (having arrived in Saudi Arabia on 8 April) to meet regional leaders and push for sustained de-escalation and long-term stability. UK officials have framed the visit as support for turning the temporary truce into something enduring, amid concerns over energy markets and shipping.

Keir Starmer. What a waste of a good, strong german general sounding name. Right up there with Wolf Blitzer.

JUST IN: UK PM Keir Starmer is being RIPPED worldwide after proclaiming, "we just reached a ceasefire"

The UK REFUSED to help President Trump and had NO role in pulling this off.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman held a meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia today. Starmer is in the Gulf nation to help further UK interests in the region following the beginning of the shaky ceasefire framework that was put in place in the past 24 hours.

//BLUF: WAR BETWEEN ISRAEL AND IRAN CONTINUES. MERCHANT VESSELS HESITANT TO TRANSIT STRAIT OF HORMUZ, AT LEAST ONE VESSEL TURNED AROUND THIS AFTERNOON. CALIFORNIA ARSON SUSPECT IDENTIFIED.//
-----BEGIN TEARLINE-----
-International Events-

Iran: Overnight several attacks were conducted between Iran and Israel, with Israeli forces continuing their attacks throughout the evening. Separately, the oil refinery on Lavan Island was struck by the UAE, in retaliation for the Iranian strikes on their oil fields yesterday.

Middle East: Iranian attacks continued as before, with an observable lull (but not complete halt) to attacks being observed after the ceasefire went into effect. In Kuwait, government officials confirmed that attacks continued, with 28x drones being intercepted by air defense systems. In the UAE, authorities likewise announced the interception of 17x ballistic missiles and 35x drones.

Lebanon: The war continues as before, with Israeli forces ordering the evacuation of areas north of the Litani River. Substantial airstrikes were reported throughout Beirut this afternoon as Israeli forces carry out their largest bombing campaign of the war.

-HomeFront-

California: The suspect in yesterday's arson attack at a warehouse in Ontario has been identified as Chamel Abdulkarim. The suspect was arrested at the scene after livestreaming himself setting fire to multiple pallets of paper products at this warehouse.

Analyst Comment: In the video posted to his social media page under his real name, Abdulkarim stated that the arson was conducted in order to destroy the inventory of the company that was not paying him enough. Abdulkarim was an employee of NFI Industries, a third-party distributor for Kimberly-Clark, who owned the warehouse.

-----END TEARLINE-----

Analyst Comments: In the Strait of Hormuz, much confusion remains regarding the exact details of what the ceasefire agreement actually means. A ceasefire is temporary, not a permanent settlement to a conflict, and this ceasefire has a two week suspension time. In 13 days, the war is scheduled to resume if an agreement cannot be reached, according to the statements made by both the United States and Iran. This ceasefire is also conditional on several points (which remain unclear) and the entire agreement depends on further negotiations.

Following the intensification of the conflict in Lebanon, Iran has linked their participation in the ceasefire to the fate of Lebanon (as in, the ceasefire is off if Israeli forces continue their advance in Lebanon). Concerning shipping throughout the Strait, this morning all commercial vessels transiting the Strait have continued to use the Larak Island tollbooth arrangement, and have only transited the waterway with Iranian permission. This afternoon one vessel, the M/T AUROURA attempted to transit the Strait, but turned around upon reaching the chokepoint. The reason for this turnaround is not known, however it is likely that Iranian forces are only allowing traffic through that has prior approval.

Open Source Intel:

The IRGC say they’ve set up a “safe corridor” in the Strait of Hormuz, routing ships through Iranian territorial waters near Larak Island, close to the mainland and Qeshm.

Transit through this corridor is controlled and requires Iranian approval, with some vessels reportedly paying for passage.

Iranian-linked reports also warn that alternative routes in the strait may be mined or unsafe.

I don't know about anyone else, but I've reached a point that any assertion by anyone about what someone else said or communicated is basically disregarded. Especially if it's "Government Sources" or "Aides to the Secretary" or whatever. Too often it's just been utter bullsh*t.

If there's video of the primary source saying it, then it's a maybe, because "Selective Editing" and AI is getting too damned good.

And people all over have gone too damned bat-sh*t crazy to trust; even some who seemed to have good reps prior to whateverinthehell is going around.
Pierre was reportedly summoned to the meeting by Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby, a Catholic who served in the first Trump administration and was nominated by Trump to his current role. Colby is a close ally of Catholic convert JD Vance. Such a meeting between Pentagon officials and the Vatican is believed to be unprecedented.

The Free Press writes that Pentagon brass “picked apart the pontiff’s January speech,” referring to his inaugural State of the World Address. They reportedly took issue with a passage in which Leo challenged Trump’s so-called Donroe Doctrine, saying, “A diplomacy that promotes dialogue and seeks consensus among all parties is being replaced by a diplomacy based on force, by either individuals or groups of allies.”

Capture some IRANIAN ships.

Send THEM through the old route---to encounter the mines.

Drag them away when done.

They are doing it illegally, per international law--Oman and Iran "administer" it but DO NOT OWN IT. It is INTERNATIONAL waters.

And yes, it's been closed before--but never has some cheap chicago-style mob boss tried to extract "protection money" for it:

Per Encyclopedia Brittanica: Has the Strait of Hormuz ever been closed? | Britannica

The most well-known instance before 2026 was the so-called Tanker War in the 1980s, in which Iran and Iraq attacked oil tankers during the Iran-Iraq War. International naval forces, particularly those of the United States and western European states, intervened to guarantee ships safe passage. Because of the width of the strait and the depth of its waters throughout, it has been assumed that it would be difficult for a country to unilaterally choke off the strait for any prolonged period of time.
The Strait is not international waters. It lies within the territorial waters of Iran and Oman. Iran is not party to the Law of the Sea treaty. They have just allowed passage until now.
