Excellent post. A must read.

"They were horrified by my suggestion that under the circumstances, a nested stainless-steel camping cookware set would be rather more practical. "What? No omelet pan?" Sheesh..." Quite an eyeopening experience.

I would like to say that some of what I read was surprising...unfortunately, it only confirmed my opinion of the beaurocratic bs that goes on that I already suspected. :(

and yes, a MUST READ.

Thanks for the post. Probably one of the most useful things I have read recently.

It was very interesting to read how the unprepared reacted to the prepared. No real surprise, but interesting to have it confirmed.

Furthermore, If you are going to depend on the govt for ANYTHING in a time of crisis, you will sign you life and your rights over to them.

I agree, an excellent read.

And Fr. Frog appears to have lots more good stuff on his website. Just scroll to the end of the article above.

he lessons to be learned from this are obvious. One family can't secure itself against these threats without great difficulty. It's best to be "teamed up" with neighbors to secure your neighborhood as a whole, rather than be the one house with facilities in an area filled with those less prepared. If you're in the latter situation, staying put may not be a safe option, and a bug-out plan may be vital. When bugging out, you're still not safe from harm, and must maintain constant vigilance.

Now, see my thread on this

I haven't examined the contents of my BOB in a few years. I think I'll do that right now and make a list of what's inside it to be placed in a few spots so I'll find it. Things like flashlight batteries can't be any good after a few yrs.

It is a good idea to make an inventory of your bob and tape it to the inside lid of the box. I keep a running inventory on Word so it is available for modification when needed and all I have to do is reprint with modifications. If you lose your list, it is easy to just reprint. If you lose the information on your computer, just refer to printed copy.

My BOB isn't especially portable, but we are old and don't plan on moving out on foot. If we do, we will have to put our bob into a garden cart then move out. These plans are simple but at least we have thought about it. You don't have to have elaborate plans, just have plans.

Thanks for that

I have a good friend who worked security down in Gulf Region for seven months following the hurricanes and heard much of this from him as well.

I am sending the link to a large number of people I know. This is truly a must read and I will be making some changes to our plans based on what I read here.

Scary stuff...:dstrs:

An excellent article and one that should be saved and read often....

Make me think about the area I moved into last year. Most lots are at the very least 1 acre or larger,.. some up to seven,... a rolling hill area.

What do you do in the event of something occuring here? I am not sure I want to expose myself to everyone that I can survive without power, etc for an extended time, but I also want to promote this to the others here...

What about a flyer in the mailbox? I know that KY has a web site now with some 'suggestions' but is really limited.. I don't mind helping out others,.. but in a SHTF sit,.. depending on the level I will stay here for 2-3 days,... after that, I'm heading out to a different area with more resourses.. I'm already working on a preFlight plan in the event.. It's just a matter of building it and getting it stacked.

Anyone know anyting about fiber glass??
