I had exactly the same response 2 months ago for the same fish sandwich deal. The meal was fine, I just crossed McD off my list FOREVER. I wonder how that works in real life when enough people refuse to patronize your place ever again ?

For fish I have a 100 mile rule... AKA if your more than 100 miles from the sea no fish. Inflation for food prices has just started. Droughts in the US. Heavy rains in China. Frosts in the southern hemisphere. We do live in interesting times.

The Big Mac index

Our interactive currency comparison tool
JUL 21ST 2021

The big mac index was invented by The Economist in 1986 as a lighthearted guide to whether currencies are at their “correct” level. It is based on the theory of purchasing-power parity (PPP), the notion that in the long run exchange rates should move towards the rate that would equalise the prices of an identical basket of goods and services (in this case, a burger) in any two countries.
Burgernomics was never intended as a precise gauge of currency misalignment, merely a tool to make exchange-rate theory more digestible. Yet the Big Mac index has become a global standard, included in several economic textbooks and the subject of dozens of academic studies. For those who take their fast food more seriously, we also calculate a gourmet version of the index.
The GDP-adjusted index addresses the criticism that you would expect average burger prices to be cheaper in poor countries than in rich ones because labour costs are lower. PPP signals where exchange rates should be heading in the long run, as a country like China gets richer, but it says little about today's equilibrium rate. The relationship between prices and GDP per person may be a better guide to the current fair value of a currency.

On TB every waking moment
Catfish is the “king” of U.S. aquaculture in terms of pounds produced and total value. The majority of catfish production occurs in the South, in the states of Mississippi, Alabama, and Arkansas. This southern delicacy is raised in earthen ponds filled with well water and fed a floating, grain-based diet. Catfish has a mild flavor and is high in protein and low in calories. According to the National Statistics Service, 471,683,000 pounds of U.S. farm-raised catfish were processed in 2010. Farmers received an average price of $0.861 per pound. Additional catfish were processed locally or sold for pond stocking and pay lakes (fee fishing operations). \snip

Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas and Louisiana all have numerous restaurants that serve excellent catfish dinners.
I don't think catfish thrive at altitude but anywhere S of MD, you can find catfish on just about every menue and in 38105, even on some 'upscale' ones.

That's just one of the problems of Iowa food right now. I eat most of my fish around Lent. That's when it really is "jet fresh" and the area Catholic organizations do a good job at the Friday evening fish fry.

The rest of the time, it's pretty bad, and road trips are necessary. On the other hand, Iowa beef, pork, and chicken is to die for! Lamb, not so much.

I can deal with substandard fish and lamb when the beef, pork, and chicken are so good.

Added: I'm probably not getting my lamb at the right places.

if the lamb is bad

you know they are trying to pull the wool over your eyes

The best catfish is the big blue catfish, caught in clearer fresh water lakes, IMO.

Caught a mess of them while jugging in Kaw lake Oklahoma. Best by far.

But you southerners can keep your hush puppies, I keep trying them, and each time they taste like bitter chalk, IMO.

I've been to several restaurants thru the years around Central Texas that specialize in "all you can eat" catfish dinners.
We used to have those in Alabama. When i was young my son and i would go and watch them cry when they saw us coming. They knew that the days profits were going to be down when they saw us coming.
