FOOD In search of: the absolute BEST frozen pizza - the trials begin

I’ve been searching for the best frozen pizza I can find. Unfortunately they’re all just mediocre so far. So I’m open to suggestions. I tend to want “meat lover” style. Pineapple is a non-starter. It’ll have to me a national brand, or a Texas local. We don’t have Kroger, Meijers, Publix, etc down here.

So the floor is open. I welcome your thoughts. (Note that I often add stuff to them before baking, such as extra chees, different meats, calamata olives, etc.

This is the recipe I use in the bread machine and make my own dough. I add some garlic powder and Italian seasoning. I cut it on half as the recipe makes enough for 2 pizzas:

2 c flour (I like to use bread flour but all purpose and even a combination of AP and wheat flour works)
1 Tbls butter, softened
1 Tbls sugar
1 tsp yeast
1 tsp salt
1/2 c plus 2 Tbls water (105-110 degrees)

Then roll it out and add your sauce and toppings any way you want!

Pizza Hut introduces Twinkie-crust Pizza

Your pizza crust just got a whole lot creamier - Pizza hut and Hostess team up for a Twinkie crust

In a press release issued this afternoon, fastfood chain Pizza Hut announced that they would be collaborating with dessert maker Hostess, launching a new, limited edition pizza with Twinkie-crust.The crust will feature the spongecake shell and the creamy inside that we all know and love in Twinkies, and will be baked at 12 degrees lower than regular pizzas, so as to not burn the spongecake.

Of course a bullet would be cheaper and quicker.

Digiorno's Deep Dish Supreme is at the top of my list.

After trying many different brands, this is our go-to frozen pizza... but that said, we supplement it with extra pepperoni, or Italian sausage, also sliced red or orange peppers, and/or sliced mushrooms, and shredded mozzarella. Product: Supreme Thin & Crispy Pizza - Newman's Own If you don't add extras, well... Adding extras just takes a few minutes (unless you are adding Italian sausage).

Sometimes for a change of pace, we will use the Stouffer's frozen French bread pizza. But that also needs the same supplements.

That said... these are "emergency pizzas", as in, we want to eat NOW, and we don't want to wait for takeout. If we really want a decent pizza, we order out, and get enough for leftovers.

This too shall pass.
You can just pat the dough out on the pan -- I've done that before. It won't be quite as even in thickness, but it works.

And for the batch in the bread machine that makes two pizzas, just divide the dough, make your two crusts, and freeze one for when you don't want to take the time to make one from scratch.

How about ginos east deep dish pizza? Aldi sells it. And Target and Walmart.

Newman's Own is the frozen pizza I use. But prefer to buy the ready made crusts, use Don Pepino canned sauce with a lot of toppings.

one vote for freschetta 4 meat frozen pizza. It has bacon, ham, sausage, and pepperoni. The crust is amazing, just as good as dominos or papa John’s in my opinion. unless you like thin crust that is.

Boboli's were great, haven't seen them either, I've been using Mama Mary's from Walmart or the Pillsbury canned dough. Just take out of the can, put it on the pizza pan, kinda like a canned biscuit thing.

Both Freschetta and Screamin’ Sicilian are “above average” but not exceptional. Not bad though.
I don't think any frozen pizza is that great. We often get California Pizza Kitchen barbecue chicken. It's just OK. My son likes it. I'd rank Newman's Own pizza as top of the heap for frozen pizza...ONLY IF YOU CAN GET THEM ON SALE. Again...just frozen pizza. Other than that, Tombstone is about as good as you'll find in the frozen world.

Well there is Imos frozen pizza but good luck finding one outside of Saint Louis, Missouri.

An hour away.

Make it a bonus doggy ride and stock up.

Q. Can your pizza be Frozen? I don’t have time to eat this pizza today, but I don’t want to Let It Go....

A.
We love being fresh and never frozen, but we get it. You can request to have our pizza double-wrapped to help endure it’s chilly new digs. Let it then thaw in the fridge for 24 hours and come to room temp for 60 minutes prior to popping in your oven.

Believe it or not our favorite is the Sam’s Choice sold at Walmart. The stuffed crust cheese pizza is my favorite.Husband likes the meat lovers.
