The LEGAL issue here is that to be ELIGIBLE for UI, you have to be SEEKING WORK and ACCEPTING of an offer.
Bitch in the OP doesn't qualify.

They just added this in NV. For the last year no one was required to look for jobs because there were none. Now just the opposite. One of my favorite restaurants is now closed 2 days a week to give the employees a break because they can't get anyone new.

On the flip side, DD applied at Sprouts 2 weeks ago. She intended only to put in an application but she was interviewed her on the spot. It was a very positive interview. They are desperate for cashiers and she has experience. He told her to watch for an email. Everything is email now by the way- even some interviews are online and not in person.

Skip forward a week and she called them. Never received an email. The gal she spoke to said oh yes were talking about you. Our HR systems were "frozen" for a few days but should be back up. We'll email you.

Skip forward another week. No email. She called. The lady told her I'm so sorry you should get an email soon.

But they are desperate. Everything is online now not in person so if your "system" goes down I guess no hiring. Or is it all BS and they're stringing her along?

She's applied at a few places but they are the only ones to interview her.

This seems to be another example of more and more of the country sliding into being totally dependent on welfare. These folks who just don’t want to work, at least at certain jobs for certain pay, likely aren’t going to like what the future holds.

Indiana can win the lawsuit by simply changing the law. They can then tell those folks to file claims with the federal department of labor, since this isba federal benefit.

There are numerous jobs here in our metro area paying $15+/hour. Amazon and all the other warehouses start at $17/hour. Heavy manufacturing is around $20/hour now.

The problem is that people refuse to move for many reasons. I’m sure a few have valid justifications, but some are just not wanting to sacrifice to do personal wants and desires. Our Toyota plant in Evansville is expanding and plans on hiring hundreds. A decent region of the state, not too huge, but not some podunk area. Cost of living is reasonable, but too many folks won’t take such a job.

In the end, watch for many small businesses, especially in the more rural areas, close up shop. I’m already seeing daily complaining in my suburban area of all the fast food places. They can’t hire and retain anyone, even paying in the low to mid teens. Service is slow, food options limited, and lots of mistakes with the orders. People might want to get used to cooking and eating 95% of their meals at home and taking lunch to work, because if things don’t change on the employment front, these fast food establishments will go under.

Changing a law takes time. Its not going to happen in a matter of weeks. In fact I think the lawsuit has a good chance of leading to an injunction against the executive order in Indiana.

Does he have a herniated lumbar disc and heart issues?

He has high blood pressure, some kidney deficiencies, and gets 3 epidural shots lower lumbar and into the sciatica because of radiating pain to his knees.

57 years old and almost 40 years in every kind of management you could ask for.

That enough?

Who wants to work their ass off for 20 an hour? You can't live on that. That's about 2400 net, per month. How is a family supposed to make ends meet on that? That is the reason no one is going for these jobs imo.
The jobs that used to pay 100+ per hour are long gone. Manufacturing is gone to Asia. What we really need is a way back machine. Pick our own cotton.

Cheese and rice! I'm 58 and can still throw a tornado kick. I have to stretch first but....
However, I have family members that are nearly the same age and have one foot in already. Genetics? Nope. You are what you eat.

Yes, to a certain extent. I can't disagree if it's true for your family. But some just *do* lose the genetic lottery. I knew a guy in his 40s... marathon runner, vegetarian, high school music teacher. He had a widowmaker heart attack out of the blue at 47. Survived, thanks to the miracle of stents.

And then there was a beloved veterinarian... his father died at 40 of a massive heart attack. His grandfather died at 38 from the same cause. Despite an excellent diet, a life he loved, and being monitored by a team at the Mayo Clinic, he died at 41. He has three sons...

I don't disagree that *most* people are digging their early graves one teaspoon at a time, but you really can't ignore genetics.

No work. No pay. Why in the heck do you think people want to support you? If you are that bad off then you should be able to get assistance through a housing program. Same for utilities, etc. If you aren't bad off enough to qualify for those programs (which all do require some form of work or accountability for other forms of entitlement income), then you don't need extra unemployment benefits. When people don't work their budget SHOULD GO DOWN, not remain the same. You gotta pick. You wanna work, or you wanna freeload?

This is obviously a business with Issues. If they can't send an email while supposedly "desperate," I would be leery of ever getting paid!

Changing a law in Indiana should take mere days unless the minority Democrat party can somehow lawfully, procedurally block the recall of legislators by the governor. Holcomb can easily call the legislature back to session, they debate the issue, pass a new law, he signs it that day.

I personally could careless. If enough citizens can’t fill the jobs at Honda, Subaru, and Toyota, those companies will move to areas where people want to work for decent wages and benefits. The entire state will become a massive welfare state if those employers, and a handful of others, close up shop.

Actions have consequences. I’m thankfully in a growing urban area so if things go this route, my economic conditions shouldn’t be affected too bad. I rarely eat out, so if we lose 75%+ of our fast food places, so be it. The others will survive based only on sales volume but prices will be higher and long lines a constant. A Chick-fil-A near the city is now starting folks at $17/hour. They are constantly busy so they can afford to pay that, and likely absorb some costs through price increases.

He is actually quite healthy. Not over weight, BP is controllable by diet, he does have a tendency to dehydrate quickly as his mother did so we really try to watch that because the dehydration cascades the other issues he has.

He has stopped the epi shots this year as he said they just weren't doing it for him anymore. We go to the chiropractor regularly (out of pocket too) because we feel better when we do.

Stress is his biggest complaint. Managing people has been damn near impossible for a minute. Add on his age, lack of advancement (never been at a job this long without being promoted at least twice) mandated costs that eat up one third of his paycheck (health insurance, taxes n bullshit, car insurance) and scared, angry, public at large?

Yeah, its been a blast.

During the pandemic, the seeking work requirement was waived. It is just now that the states are switching back to requiring the work search

My point, kind of, is that my siblings have the same genes and are both severely over weight. Great to hear that's not an issue for you and yours.

I feel for you. Things can happen in life you can't control. Like getting hit at an intersection by some mental midget with no insurance kinds of stuff.
I'm so glad I could drop out of society at the tender age of 55. I've been able to cut my spend by 80% and live comfortably. I'm done.
I like your posts. Always have. Great luck to you.
