I have a couple of small books on herbal medicine but would like a comprehensive book on the details of herbal medicine. Can anyone recommend anything?

Thanks

What kind of herbal medicine interests you? What resources are you using now? Do you want to make your own medicine?

I like to check around Amazon.com and read the reviews.

Google Books is a good resource, too.

There are lists of links here on this board. I don't know if search is working.

Here's a link to a list of books. http://www.herbaleducation.net/reading.php

I'm not sure what I might suggest is what you are looking for...

The 2 main books I reference are -

Todays Herbal Health.... I think I've had it about 20yrs.... it is set up looking at various herbs....

Healthy Healing.... you look up issues & conditions and it has a page or 2 per recommending herbs, diet, and lifestyle

PDR of Herbal Medicine (Physicians Desk Reference) gives herb, dosages, contraindications, studies and is easy to use. It does not go into herbal preparation. I have two books that are my favorite on that:

Paperback; Heinerman's Encyclopedia of Healing Herbs and Spices (lots of good recipes)

Hardback: Encyclopedia of Medicinal Plants: George D. Pamploma-Roger, MD (Expensive but worth it, origins 7th Day Adventists, but the info is right on and in my comprehensive library cross referenced with no errors)

Be Well

may all be well
Some of my favorites are Planetary Herbology by Michael Tierra, as well as Way of Herbs by Tierra and Way of Ayurvedic Herbs by Tierra and Khalsa. Also The Yoga of Herbs by David Frawley.

I have and like Heinerman's Encyclopedia of Healing Herbs and Spices also.

Michael Moore:

Medicinal Plants of the Mountain West
and
Medicinal Plants of the Desert and Canyon West: A Guide to Identifying, Preparing, and Using Traditional Medicinal Plants Found in the Deserts and Canyons of the West and Southwest

Practical Herbalism is my favorite. It's part field-guide, part 'recipe' book, part encyclopedia.

Whatever our forum members are using, will all be good to have. I have a thick one that my DD bought for me when I had room for everything that can be grown. It is simply called Herbs in large letters and I love it. It is old now, so maybe look in used book stores which used to be one of my favorite things to do. Kind of home bound now, so I miss it. Good luck, you will find favorites if you look.
