I'm watching 8 story threads and for the first time in months, there isn't one new post from the author on any of them! Not too worry; I have lots of TB2K bookmarks so I have lots of stuff to review.

I do not know about other authors, but since I have seen a warning a few months ago that this site new owners are trying to publish stories as theirs, I have decided not to share anymore here. I have tried to set up a account on survivalistboards.com but for some reason it is not showing me the ' human verification', so I can not get past that part.
I wonder if I can post TEOTWAWKI stories on fanfiction.net? I have only shared my Stargate fan fiction there.

If this is true, it is troubling. As far as survivalistboards.com, I would read carefully their rules and such. They are having the issue of "posted here, we own it" one of the reasons I didn't and wont post mine there

I wish I could write. I miss it hugely. I was in the middle of a great story and my mother died. By the time the air cleared, the story was gone. I've written a half dozen starts but not getting more the seven or eight chapters in before either current events over take the story and its is outdated or it just fizzles out and becmes a boring read. Good kick to try again though.

Can you be more specific? I'm not understanding what you mean.

Thanks!

Charmer was discussing an issue over at Survivalist Boards that came about when the previous owner sold the site.

There was an exodus of writers from SB, shortly after.

If any members are unsure of our policy on this, it is posted at the top of the Member Stories page.

Here is the post that I mentioned. As I understand it, any story published on this site becomes the property of the site owners.

Thanks!

You have got to be kidding me. In the umpity bumpity number of years I have been around this has NEVER been the case. NEVER.

If you don't want to post here there are lots of other options but don't for a minute think that TB2K is doing anything nefarious. They are quite clear that authors' works are there own, and that if they want to publish them to earn money they'll be more than happy to delete the story thread which most publishers require.

I would suggest that you might find fictionpress.com - the sister site of fanfiction.net - to be the better home for such stories. I've got them on both but prefer fictionpress for all the dystopian stuff except for the zombie genre that thus far appears to do better on fanfiction.

I don't know who has been telling stories but just watch that source from here on out. I would more than consider it suspect.

I hope your right. I want to believe the good, but after seeing that warning, and when I asked about it on the post, the answer made it sound like they have that option, and that is what worried me. If they decided they want to take my story and publish it as theirs, they can.
I had not heard of fictionpress before. thank you for telling me about it. I will look at it.
If I am wrong(I hope I am) then I will apologize to the site owners for thinking bad of them, but if I understand that post correctly, then I am right to be careful.

If you read the thread referenced, it was survivalistforum being discussed, and the reason they came here to timebomb2000 since we keep our rights

If you read the thread in full 223 was referring to a different forum. I kinda remember the conversation but kinda not.

Trust me on this, I came here to write after being invited by Deena. Even quite recently Dennis was explaining why a story had been deleted as being due to the author wanting (and they did) publish it and therefore needing to take it off all "read for free" forums that it had been on. Dennis has been the owner around here for a couple of decades so the site hasn't changed ownership. Most of the mods have been around here in some form as long or nearly.

I have a bunch of stories around here in different threads. Most of them were also at blogspot but their formatting just wasn't working any longer. I've moved most of my content off of blogspot to fanfiction and fictionpress except for Ava that is only here on TB2K until it is completed and then I will copy it over to fictionpress.

MotherHeninFL is my name on both FF and FP if you want to see it. This is my bio page on FP

The one thing that really gripes me about those two sites now is the adverts that now appear in the pages instead of at the end as they were last year. Suppose they gotta make some money to keep the sites of somehow but it is very off-putting. Hope this helps.

Maybe writing SHTF stories is down is because we are now living through the event.
I have several stories started but have lost interest. Real stuff is happening now that I used to just write about.

I think quite a few members here would be very happy to see you posting stories again; your portfolio isn't huge but I for one would say the quality is there. One of my mother's mantras, reinforced as situationally required, was 'Quality over quantity is always better'. No she wasn't discussing any literary format at the time; it was foot wear.

If you throw one of those false starts you had up here, the reactions & feedback might kick the process back into gear.

Some of us just dont have the time right now.
Yeah, there's that, too be sure (just another 2-3 hrs per day would be so helpful!) but I have to say I think the consumers of fiction here are a better class; there's a lot less demanding of the author to post at the readers rate of consumption. I think, and this is just my perspective from lurking & observing comment and story threads for a while, most of us have lives and a better sense of who we are so we tend to be less demanding; we have a pretty good idea of what is getting in the authors' way. Some other forums....well, the habitues seem more needy to me.

When an author starts apologizing for not posting, as a few have of late and with very good reasons, there's a general outcry to sit back & breathe or take an actual break to deal w/ whatever ogre is hulking over them. Many of us have shared a similar sentiment; we'll be here when you get back.
So if Lili, or you or pretty much anyone else wants to put some work up here at whatever pace works for the author, I think we'll all be damn glad to have it and show proper appreciation and respect for the efforts expended.

Ooops! That's getting a tad 'ranty'; sorry.

I think I'll take a little Woodford & my pipe for a stroll around the deck, then hit the rack.

Sleep well y'all.

My stories are copyrighted, so if anyone goes through all the trouble of finding a literary agent, then a publisher and actually starts publishing my stories, it will have saved me a lot of work because I will sue them for the royalties and probably a little extra. Then the publicity from the lawsuit will generate more sales, of which all royalties will be mine.

It WAS the SBs that changed their policy, they “owned” the rights to everything posted, it’s the reason I and others left SB. Dennis assured me and others we own our own stories. I think you’ve mixed up the forums. Feel free to post on TBK2000, this is a great site.

Thank you so much. Really appreciated. Will get my head out of teaching my homeschooler quadratics, vectors and art history and try again. I appreciate the encouragement.

The very post you are referring to says it all if you read it...
it starts out:
"Due to some unforeseen events on another board"...

That tells me the events occurred on another board, not this one!

I see.

On TB, authors retain their full rights to material. The boilerplate copyright notice says that once posted on TB, we reserve the right to edit or remove posts as needed. (No staff member has ever edited a story, but we HAVE edited content that was pornographic or offensive, and since members can’t delete or edit after 24 hours, we will do that upon the author’s request as well.) The sticky at the top of this room clearly states that authors retain their rights to their intellectual material.

Further, that others (aside from the authors) cannot repost the material to other locations without express permission of the author.

This room was specifically created for creative writing. There has never been an attempt to usurp ownership of a single thing in here in nearly 20 years.

ETA: This site is entirely not-for-profit. I run a fundraiser annually to pay next year’s costs. Nothing is sold to other companies, including member information or intellectual property. I’ve been on TB since 1998, and have run the place since Ed got out in late 2000. I was once offered $50,000 to sell the forum and turned it down. (My CPA said I was nuts for doing that.) I made a promise to the membership back in 2000 that I’d never take the site commercial, or charge people to read. I’ve kept my promise these past 20 years.

ETA2: Also in the boilerplate copyright for TB (which will get re-added if I can ever recover from our upgrade trauma - sigh) is a statement that TB2K owns the right to everything posted FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES. The reason for the altered copyright notice in this room is because that statement shouldn’t apply to creative intellectual property. It’s too broad.

quadratics, vectors AND art history?

Yes ma'am, you need a break of some kind or at very least, a nap & then some really good stimulant beverage.
