Food I found some packages of pecans in one of our freezers.

They do not smell fresh, probably been in the freezer for at least 8 years. I want to save them because my prep budget is almost gone.

I spread them out on a couple of dehydrator trays and put them in the dehydrator for an hour or so. They smell better, as soon as they cool a bit I'm going to vacuum seal them.

That's a sign they've gone rancid imo! I wouldn't risk getting sick on them.

After they'd been in the dehydrator they came out smelling fine and tasted fine.

We always froze our pecans in canning jars and they kept for years with no problems. Had over 100 pecan trees, so had a ton of pecans from year to year.

The first batch turned out okay, but the second batch is nasty, giving them to the chickens.
