OK, I have to ask. How do you get a chicken to lay half an egg? Or was it half a chicken? They don't lay eggs. So the question is moot at the start. Or you only count eggs/chickens that are whole.

Now the equation is much easier!

Backwards. A hen lays 2/3 of an egg a day. Six hens for seven days is 42 hen-days. 2/3 of that is 28.

The laying rate for 1.5 chickens is the key number. 1.5 eggs per 1.5 days is the same rate as 360 eggs in 360 days or 12,476 eggs in 12,476 days or 1 egg per day. One egg per day makes it simple.

1.5 chickens => 1 egg/day. Multiply each side by 2/3 and 1 chicken => 2/3 egg/day.

I figure there are 30 eggs in the pyramid, plus the one up top in the question area.

But IF this the correct answer, I cannot see how 95% of people giving their estimates could be wrong.
