I'm giving you this link because I just have a rain gauge on my back deck with a thermometer mounted to a railing: extremely low tech around here! I do most of my weather forecasting by looking at the sky first thing in the morning.

My local weather man was just talking about this the other day:

The most expensive and best in my opinion are Davis and Rainwise. These will run near or just over $1000 to near $2000 for a Rainwise with all needed components and displays.
As prices come down, quality usually lowers. Most are accurate, but some don't last as long and others may lack some features. Anything you purchase for less than $200 will give you most information, but may not last very long.

The system that has probably been the BEST BANG for the buck is the WeatherFlow Tempest. I bought one back in the spring (shown in picture below) and so far have been very happy. It provides all of the standard info (Temperatures, Wind Chills, Heat Index, Wind Speeds, Gusts, Avg, Rainfall, Humidity, Dew Point, Air Pressure, etc.) that all stations do.

Plus, it has LIVE spot location UV index from the sensor on the station. Lightning detection. All with graphs and notifications that can be customized. Easy and quick set up, no moving parts with this new technology, so it may never break. This is totally wireless and solar powered.

Right now there is a Black Friday Sale on this unit, their biggest discount of the year.
Here is the link for more info and to order

Coupon Code
BLACKFRIDAY

This normally sells for $329, which is already a good price for the unit, the BLACKFRIDAY code will knock off 20%. This will save more than $65 and bring the price down to $263.20
This comes with your own App to see you data on your phone. Also, a direct website link for your weather station to observe and send to your friends.

What bothers me about the weather stations that I've looked at is the location of the thermometer. You need the wind speed and direction sensors up high, but the temperature sensor down low (4'-5' above the ground). All I've seen have them mounted as a unit.

You can get a Davis Vantage Vue with weather link for around $400.00. They are good weather stations and weather link allows your station to be online on weatherunderground.

I've used Accurite, LaCrosse, and Davis units. The best low-cost one I've found is Accurite... so far lasted about 8 years at the farm and still running. LaCross units seem just as good, but cost a bit more. I've never paid retail any of them, just wait for annual sales. All manufacturers have Internet connectivity either native to the unit or through a PC.

I have a Davis Pro 2 which has run my weather website for the last 8 years. Top end of the consumer type weather gear with a price to match. Around $700 with the options IIRC.
