…… Hiding coin ideas

I've been creating coin stashes in my vehicles for emergencies. Almost all of the containers are unusual and not typical hiding spots. But I'd really like to sort some of the coins out for better hiding spots. The problem is that most of the unlikely containers I find to use will fit quarters but not dimes or nickels. Anyone know of everyday items that come in tubes that will fit dimes or nickels? Or at least not something as obvious as M&M tubes.

Chapstick, Lipstick containers, travel Advil tube, personal hygiene tampon holder(sorry, you asked).

Prescription bottles. Shotgun choke tube holders. Bead tubes if large enough. Let your imagination be your guide. Antique wooden fish hook tubes if you see one. Have a friend with a wood lathe? Paint them pretty. Plumbing PVC pipe with end caps.

Chapstick, Lipstick and travel med tubes are all too small. I've tried them. It's incredibly so close but just a hair too small. I thought about tampons today. I'll test that tomorrow. While I don't use them they would be a "normal" thing to find in a female's car. I've found a whole variety of tubes that can hold quarters that would normally be in my vehicle and/or carry bag. The problem is with nickels and dimes. Although I could probably pad a few of the other containers which would also help hide their contents by changing the weight from what is expected.

Prescription bottles can be seen through. Same for bead tubes. I'm going for opaque containers.

I like the wooden tube idea. I can hide one as a sewing needle container. Heck I'd use at least one as an actual sewing needle container. I also discovered that nickels will fit in one of the cheap LED flashlights with a piece of cereal box to nest in. I can get a few of those flashlights from the dollar store. I'm thinking about experimenting with carefully removing the wrappers from lifesavers, tums, etc and using them to wrap around sets of coins. And while I don't smoke or vapor, I'm wondering if some of the cheap vapor "cigarettes" wouldn't work. I have a friend who uses them so I may ask her for one of her old ones so I can experiment. I'm going for variety so that if someone trips across one they won't automatically recognize others. And not obvious things.

Don't use anything that someone breaking into your vehicle would be likely to steal:
Prescriptions bottles - they'll take drugs
Advil type tubes - ditto
Gum/candy containers
Vaping stuff

You're better off to get some foam lining that matches the inside of your car and make a false bottom to your glove box/console, and hide your coins under there in something flat. Couple f the self stick velcro dots/strips along the edges will make it less noticable, as will some junk on top :)

I'm not as worried about thieves as I am about certain family members and acquaintances. Although part of the reason for the containers is also to make it less obvious to anyone glancing in the car. I like the glove box idea. I have two of them so I can pad and place containers in both.

If it for people you know what about one of those plastic zipered notebook sleeves for pencils, pens. rulers, etc. Place coins flat and put under the floor mats. People too lazy to work are too lazy to clean your car I expect. If it for emergency maybe tape the coins in place so they do not move around.

I may do that with vac sealed ones. For family, it's because some of them expect me to spend, literally, every last dime even when I being pulled into a family activity that I don't want to do. And the idea of having more emergency coinage then could fit in the car's slots is something they find excessive. But it's pulled my fat out of the fire more times than I care to count now.

As for acquaintances, there are quite a few that think that if I have the coins and they think I should do something with them, or they need some, I should give in. I don't but it's just an extra pain in the rear to deal with. And I don't want to deal with it. For some reason having extra coinage in the care seems to make some of them think I have more cash than I do. Another annoyance.

As for thieves, well most of the containers are things that would normally be in a car. And they are getting scattered into different areas that are appropriate. The actually coin slots built into the car have only a few scattered coins in order to distract.

I will probably vacseal the coins from the next few months and then lay then down under carpets and in other hiding spots. That will be the "holy he!!" life has completely bottomed out stashes. And I like the idea that they won't clink and make noise. I've got a couple of spots where the carpet edge is loose, as well as extra carpet coverage in other areas to protect the original carpet. There's also the jack storage spot. And rather than the bottom of the glove boxes, I can pull them and attach to the outside.

I like the idea of stashing coins and spreading them out so they are not all in one spot. I was thinking about hiding things in books that are hollowed out, it seems this could work for cars too. No one ever steals a user manual for a car out of a glove box. I see them in junkyards all the time, still in there...
