Earlier this month, Texas Governor Greg Abbott lifted the statewide mask mandate, and liberal heads promptly exploded. President Joe Biden called it “Neanderthal thinking,” tempting some to say “takes one to know one.” Public health experts were aghast. The media had a meltdown.

Fox News:

A Washington Post reporter reacted to Abbott’s decision by sharing an article from last September that a “mass casualty event” was happening every day in Texas. Another journalist called Abbott and people who agree with him “wingnuts,” and a liberal website declared Abbott, “showed that there is no limit to how far Republicans will go to kill people by lifting Texas’s mask mandate.”

But Abbott’s order, which went into effect March 10 and also gave businesses the option of going to 100 percent capacity, hasn’t stopped the downward trajectory of positive coronavirus tests. Fewer people are getting sick after Abbott gave Texas citizens the option of wearing a mask or not. Businesses also had the option of maintaining a mask requirement.

Lifting the mandate did not mean that Abbott was saying people couldn’t or shouldn’t wear a mask. But that’s the way that the governor’s political enemies portrayed the order. It turns out, the naysayers look pretty foolish at this point.

Despite the outrage, The Texas Department of State Health Services reported on Thursday that new coronavirus cases have declined since the mask mandate was lifted. The New York Times daily tracker shows Texas daily coronavirus cases are down 28 percent from two weeks ago.
Fox News contributor Guy Benson shared a variety of headlines from news organizations sounding the alarm on March 2. Newsweek focused on Texas Democrat Beto O’Rourke calling the decision a “death warrant for Texans,” a local ABC affiliate declared,” Model projections for Texas show worst-case scenario without mask mandate,” CNN editor-at-large Chris Cillizza wrote about Abbott’s “head-scratching, anti-science decision” and another headline declared Abbott’s decision could result in another coronavirus surge.

Why does it surprise anyone that, when using their own judgment, people can take care of themselves and their families? What is it about freedom of choice that these people hate so much?

While Texas is by no means out of the woods yet, it wouldn’t surprise anyone if the number of positive tests starts going back up, more people will wear masks. People are smart like that.

Meanwhile, is anyone going to apologize for getting hysterical about lifting the mask mandate?

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said, “The entire country has paid the price for political leaders who ignore the science,” and actor Matthews McConaughey even spoke out about his home state.
“I was a little dumbfounded by the decision,” McConaughey said on “CBS This Morning.” “I understand ‘go back to work.’ What I did not understand was ‘pull the mask mandate.'”
California Gov. Gavin Newsom called the move “absolutely reckless,” and Twitter was flooded with hot takes from people who called Abbott’s decision everything from “crazy” to “embarrassing.”

You can detect a pattern here. The less these “experts” trust ordinary people with a little freedom, the direr their predictions.

Of course, all of these doom and gloom forecasts will be forgotten in time. The idiots will never be called to account for their ignorance. And when the next issue comes along where people don’t “follow the science,” we’ll have to endure the same nonsense from the same sources.

AZ lifted their masks Thursday. I walked around the gym and quietly told everyone I could they didn't have to wear the mask if they didn't want to.

The desk people said nothing to no one. I asked. Otherwise, they would have stayed quiet about it. I was floored when they said the mandate was lifted.

Every person took their mask off when I told them it was optional. We are freaking sheep folks. I'm guessing 2% of the populace want to wear masks. Go for it! The rest were just following orders! Including myself.

As I have said before, I am very (apparently VERY) blessed to live in my little Alaska town. They do not care at all if you are masked or not (and most are not). The numbers of positives state-wide keep declining...they cannot give away the "vaccine" to anyone anymore so it's open to all who want it here. But apparently all who want it have pretty much by now gotten the jab ....

I'll admit, I've always been a good hand-washer - I take XClear and all my vits as usual because I want all the tools available to keep my immune system strong. I keep active and get all the sunlight available ~ But there is no way on earth I'd take any vaccine currently offered. I don't even take the flu or pneumonia vaccines because I don't get sick. I just don't. Not judging anyone who does take these shots - it sure helped my dear Daddy and I'll always be thankful for that!

But this 2-tier system does not bode well for America. No jab? No job! Not vaccinated? Not traveling/shopping/visiting! Don't comply with MY truth? Then you're a hater and have no rights in this America.

Not sure where this will lead or where it will end but it's not looking real good ~~

Most Americans have been educated to follow the law. Trouble is, they don't know the difference between a law and a mandate, which is not a law but a suggestion. No different than a mandate from a presidential candidate, who vows to follow their constituents' mandate, but most presidents never do.

I don't know what you posted but those are not Texas numbers. They are even too high for US numbers. Cases and deaths in Texas are indeed falling and have been for weeks.

Sounds like you have virtually no community spread of the virus just like our county of 15,000 here in Illinois. Most likely all you are getting is someone infected from out of town stops someplace in your county for gas and gives it to the clerk or someone else or something similar. We now go 2-5 days with no new cases and then get 1 or 2 the next day. States use different numbers to decide where and when to change lockdown status. As posted above, a 1 day doubling of your 4 cases probably triggered the panic function of some government employee's computer. I think Indiana uses the percentage of positive tests in their decisions. Here in Illinois I think we use Gov. Prickster's secret formula no one knows or understands.

I'm very familiar with Worldometers. I have checked it every day since its inception. My point is that Texas cases and deaths are decreasing, not going up. Click on the 7 day rolling average graph and see for yourself. Then compare the stats over time between states that locked down to those did not and show me where those that locked down did better than the others. Same applies to countries. All experienced the same rise and fall no matter what they did. Also be sure to check the daily test totals. You will notice more new cases are reported as new test numbers go up. Test more=more new cases. But even Fauci says many tests are false positive. Cases are rising in some other countries and all of those have very low vaccination rates so far. I hope the decreases are due to the vaccine but I won't take it. Look at Israel's stats. They jumped on the vaccines earlier than other countries and have vaccinated more of their population than anyone else. Over 50% I think last I looked. Their deaths and cases have dropped drastically. Deaths have gone from around 70 per day down to 12 and cases are also dropping, down from 8,000 a day to 600. Hopefully that is due to the vaccine.

Remember that positive predictive value (PPV) varies with disease prevalence when interpreting results from diagnostic tests. PPV is the percent of positive test results that are true positives. As disease prevalence decreases, the percent of test results that are false positives increase.

• For example, a test with 98% specificity would have a PPV of just over 80% in a population with 10% prevalence, meaning 20 out of 100 positive results would be false positives.
