I am not trying to diminish the seriousness of this but I feel like we are being played like a cheap violin...

Alabama and Massachusetts Are Handing the Addresses of People With Coronavirus Over to Police

*SNIP*
Two U.S. states — Alabama and Massachusetts — have begun providing the addresses of those known to have been diagnosed with COVID-19 to police in a bid to contain the spread and protect first responders who might answer a call where a coronavirus sufferer is involved.

Alabama began providing the addresses — but not names — to police and other emergency responders starting more than a week ago. The information is being distributed to 85 emergency communications districts in the state, and is then relayed to police officers and other first responders when they go out on calls.

If you ignore the misleading headline and actually read the info, it seems to be a smart thing to do and it should help prevent the spread and save some lives.

I think Alabama is working on the reporting site or something.

Last night for several hours, the site was crashed and kept showing "fatal error" (we had already hit 999 confirmed cases earlier). Now it is up, but now the confirmed cases are staying at 999.

Just guessing, but it seemed to me that for some reason the site locked up when they try to enter the new cases....guess 999 confirmed cases was as high as the programmer thought it would get. geez. In the meantime, I figure it will be a drastic increase if they ever get that little fault fixed.

It probably crashed because I was clicking on refresh every 60 seconds to be the first to report "1000"
Sorry

You probably weren't the only one.

And here I felt bad for checking every 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on when I took a break from whatever I had been doing.

If they get it up and running correctly, maybe you could just check it every two minutes?

Asking for help: Alabama food pantry requests up over 700 percent

From March 12-30, Alabama’s food pantry requests were up 720 percent over the same time last year. The 2-1-1 helpline received 2,057 calls related to food pantries over that time this year. In 2019, over the same time span, it got just 251.

Alabama projected to have fourth highest rate of COVID-19 fatalities in nation
MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) —
According to the projection models used by the US government, Alabama may see the fourth most fatalities from COVID-19, assuming full social distancing through May 2020.

New York, Florida, Texas and Alabama are the states projected to have the median most fatalities from the COVID-19 outbreak.

The virus is expected to peak in Alabama on April 19 2020, and result in approximately 5,516 deaths in the state by August 4 2020.

The data suggests between 849 and 9,600 deaths in Alabama, and that 3,504 invasive ventilators will be needed in the state.

The study projects there will be 27,498 beds needed in Alabama, but only 5,743 beds available, with a shortage of 21,755 beds.

The study projects there will be 4,382 ICU beds needed, but only 474 ICU beds available, with a shortage of 3,908 ICU beds.

Not comforting at all.

My grandson was sent home from work today with a fever, throwing up and some other symptoms. There had been a suspected case at his job (not a small place) a couple of weeks ago. They never told employees if that person tested positive or not, everyone assumed they did (that person hasn't been back to work). As far as I know, my grandson never even had contact with that person.

Anyway, he was sent home today and then they gave him instructions on where to go, I assume for testing. All I know is what I can glean from my daughter who is giving me info in an overly excited way; hard to make all the bits and pieces form a complete picture.

To make things worse, I had to take his car to the dealership to be fixed Wed. (He dropped it off at my house Mon evening and took mine, so he could work Tue.) He woke up Wed with what he thought was seasonal allergies so didn't go to work, goes thru this every year at this time. Went to work Thur and was fine, went to work today and got sick at work and they sent him home.

So now, I have to worry about my grandson (19) and my daughter and other grandkids (9, 10, 13) that all live in the same house together and I guess to some degree, myself.

ETA: he has not been there long enough for company insurance to have kicked in, so, uninsured.
