CORONA Heads up Alabama folks!

on Friday, you reported the 4th death.
today, the website reported the 4th death.
one can infer that the website is 2 days behind - for whatever the reason.
one can also infer that the number of cases is behind.

see post 36

number of positives is kept up to date

total tested numbers are probably incorrect at moment (maybe for a long time)

deaths, see post 36 for doctors best guess. Also, some delays on confirmed deaths being added most likely has to do with notification of family. Just like they do during tornado/hurricane season etc.

4755* tested to date
3 dead (per the obviously very delayed death numbers) so, add minimum 5 dead from tonight and most likely another one for reported death#4 reported a few days ago that went away or was just not added in yet......

827 confirmed
4755* tested to date
4 deaths

I think it's going to get bad. It followed the students. And it may have followed workers. And then a lot of the local governments have refused to follow Ivey, thinking she was too extreme. I'm supposed to be back at one of the jobs next Monday but there is a surprise conference call tomorrow morning. I don't know if we'll be suspended or fired. Or just told to try to create remote work out of thin air which was the tactic passed out about 1 1/2 weeks ago. Find a way to remote work, oh and document it thoroughly or you'll be fired.

(Geez, has it been that long already?)

I wonder if the AL officials will Blame Trump in regard to these Spring Break students---just as the Mayor of New Orleans blamed him for "not telling us we should have stopped Mardi Gras!"

Thus proving they are STILL living under the "slave" mentality where they are helpless until the 'massa' tell dem what to do....

Oh no. While county and city officials in some areas were slow, the Universities weren't. They closed 1 1/2 to 2 weeks before Spring Break. Went to online classes. But from the numbers, it started in Birmingham and split between Lee County and Madison County. No one here seems to be blaming Trump. Nit that we're thrilled, just that we understand.

LEE COUNTY, Ala. (WBMA) — Another person has died at East Alabama Medical Center in Lee County from COVID-19, the sixth at that facility in less than 72 hours.

This comes after the hospital announced Saturday that five people had died there since Friday, March 27.
This brings the unofficial Alabama death count from the new coronavirus to 11.
The were 827 confirmed cases in Alabama as of 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 29.

Of the six patients, the hospital said four were from Chambers County and two from Lee County. As of 3 p.m. Sunday, only one of the Chambers County deaths was reflected on the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) website as there’s an official process that the ADPH must complete before adding to the COVID-19 state death count.

ADPH has not yet released ages of victims or hospitalization numbers.

In a statement, EAMC said it's sharing COVID-19 information daily to keep area residents informed. Their statistics are:
  • 22 – the number of patients currently hospitalized at EAMC with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis.
  • 5 – the number of patients who were previously hospitalized with COVID-19 that have been discharged.
  • 23 – the number of patients who are currently hospitalized with suspected COVID-19.
  • 25 – the number of patients currently hospitalized who were previously suspected of COVID-19, but have since received a negative test result.
Businesses with access to the following items who wish to donate them may bring them to the collection site outside of EAMC’s Main Lobby between 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. each weekday. An EAMC representative will be there to collect the supplies.
  • Isolation gowns: non-sterile, impervious
  • Masks: surgical, procedure, ear loop, ear loop with face shield, or fog-free procedure mask
  • Latex gloves: exam, nitrile or chemo
  • Hand sanitizer: 70% ethyl alcohol
  • Shelter in Place at Home
While there is not yet a mandate from the state to shelter in place, EAMC has been asking area residents to shelter in place at home.

Sheltering in place means staying at home with immediate family members only and should not leave your home except for essential activities such as food, medical care, or work. You should not host gatherings of people outside of your immediate family.

Governor Kay Ivey and the Alabama Department of Health last week issued stricter health orders for the entire state including, the closure of all beaches and non-essential businesses.

You should also maintain a 6-foot distance from other people as much as possible if you have to leave your home for essential work or grocery shopping, and frequently wash your hands for at least 20 seconds.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBMA) — Alabama-native and Apple CEO Tim Cook donated 200,000 medical masks to Alabama's health care workers on the front lines fighting COVID-19.
On Sunday the Alabama Department of Public Health thanked Cook in a tweet, "The Alabama Department of Public Health would like to thank Apple and Tim Cook for the donation of 100,000 surgical masks and 100,000 N95 masks for Alabama's front line. Our heroes are those on the front line. Thanks to Tim for helping us protect them."

Last week Cook, who was born in Mobile and raised in Baldwin County, announced that Apple was donating 10 million masks to health care workers across the country from a stockpile the tech company had left over from construction projects.
"Our teams at Apple have been working to help source supplies for health care providers fighting COVID-19. We're donating millions of masks for health professionals in the U.S. and Europe. To every one of the heroes on our front lines, we thank you." Cook tweeted.
As of Sunday evening, Alabama had 827 confirmed cases of COVID-19

830 confirmed
4755 tested to date
7 deaths (finally starting to show more of them)
ETA 7:54 AM: they just changed the number of deaths from 7 to 6....

Still a few more deaths for them to acknowledge. I'm not sure, but it looks like they might be listing/assigning deaths in nursing homes to the patient's county of origin/home. So determination of death, notification of family and then patient residence would all result in some delays on the official postings. (just like during tornado/hurricane deaths)

This is the explanation for the asterisk next to the total tested (to date).

Confirmed cases and deaths are reported in real time. Total tested and testing sites are updated once a day.
*Total tested primarily represents tests that were satisfactorily performed by the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) Bureau of Clinical Laboratories (BCL), along with some data from commercial labs. Commercial labs are required, by law, to report positive tests to ADPH. Some commercial labs do not report negative specimens.

Testing sites are facilities who have reported to ADPH that they are collecting specimens for COVID-19. This map does not reflect all collection sites in Alabama. Call the testing site for additional information before visiting. Or call the Alabama COVID-19 24/7 hotline at 1-888-264-2256 for testing sites and hours of operation near you. Note: There is no medical advice provided at this telephone number.

Lilbitsnana, I do appreciate your updates but I am worried about ya. You can't sit there all day and click refresh. You need to enjoy the sunshine. Oops. Sorry, raining again. And tomorrow.
But Wednesday, Thursday and Friday you have to go out and get some sun.
We want to see those tan lines.

LOL, I actually got a lot of work done outside today

Well son #1 just got his Essential Employer Pass or whatever it is called, from his work. So, I guess Alabama may be getting ready to go to the next level. He works a factory that manufacturers food container products. So, if you're in Alabama and still have things to get, you might want to get moving.

Over the last week, COVID-19 cases in Alabama increased faster than 40 other states

*SNIP*
Over the last week, the number of COVID-19 cases in the state of Alabama grew faster than 43 other states and the District of Columbia. Only seven states saw their total confirmed cases increase more rapidly than Alabama, according to data from the COVID Tracking Project. The number of positive cases confirmed by lab tests in the state increased 383 percent between March 23 and March 29.

Alabama’s rate of increase over the last week outpaces New Jersey, New York, California, Washington and Louisiana, the states generally considered to be the epicenters of the outbreak in the United States.

They added some new data

952 Confirmed
7249 Total Tested
18 reported deaths
13 died from illness

note from link:
Confirmed Cases, Reported Deaths, and Deaths From This Illness are reported in real time. Total tested and testing sites are updated once a day.

Total Tested primarily represents tests that were satisfactorily performed by the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) Bureau of Clinical Laboratories (BCL), along with some data from commercial labs. Commercial labs are required, by law, to report positive tests to ADPH. Some commercial labs do not report negative specimens.

Reported Deaths and Deaths From This Illness represent the number of individuals who have a positive lab result and are now deceased. To count a person who died from COVID-19 disease, the medical record of the deceased person has to be reviewed by a physician and Infectious Disease and Outbreak staff. Once review is complete, if the death is attributed to COVID-19, the individual will also appear in Deaths From This Illness. Reported death totals are cumulative and will never decrease.

They either lowered the "confirmed" number by one...or I was seeing it wrong the last few times?

951 confirmed

ETA 12:51 PM: someone there must have made a typo because the newest update now shows 961
