Having some trouble breathing.

It started last Thursday. I got a funny feeling in my head like there was pressure. Then I felt just sick. Then I started to get, on and off, a feeling of pressure on my chest. I even feel bloated in my stomach, lots of air coming up.

It's at its worst when I try to sleep at night, the pressure builds up and I start breathing real heavily. I seem to only be getting about 4hrs sleep and I can't take it anymore and have to go sit up.

Every time I lay down, I start having the same problems again. It gets worst at night and that's when I feel it in my head again too.

Any ideas? Anything I should try to help>

I would go see a DR., but I'm flat broke right now, lost my job over this too.

FWIW I think I would go to the ER and get it checked out. Job or no job they have to see you and treat you whether you can pay or not. If you don't have much in the way of material possessions and no job then there isn't much they can do to collect from you....but at least you'll still be with us. Think about it and get yourself looked at. With your symptoms I don't think this is something you can treat yourself.

Good advice. Go to the ER, you'll get a bill that maybe you can pay and maybe you can't, but that might give you the opportunity to worry about it.

Same symptoms here. Worst is the lack of sleep. The only thing I have found that helps is I get up from bed and go to my recliner. Sleeping almost sitting up helps. Last week I was getting the air coming up like belches. At the same time felt like throwing up. After an hour or so of that I did throw up. Had a large bowl and almost filled it up. Lots of red stuff like blood . After that was out some of the symptoms left but still having problems sleeping.

...Didn't go to docs because no temperature; all symptoms are general, nothing to really say is causing the sickness.

Please go to the hospital. I know some hospitals get money to help people when they can't pay. Some hospitals have social workers where you can get help with medical. Ask if they have one.
Good luck and take care but please go!

Well? You've been given some very good common sense advice here, are you still alive? I hope/pray that you are.

I know of absolutely NOTHING 'OTC' (over-the-counter) that can help your symptoms.

If you had of came into my triage room and told me those symptoms I probably would have given you a level 2 acuity (emergent) and called my charge nurse and asked to immediately room you.

You need to see a Doctor. I'll say it again, you NEED to see a Doctor.

Please give us an update when you can and let us know how you are doing. Is there anyone local in his area that can go over and visit/check on this member?

Went to ER.

Have heart failure. Had to shock my heart back into rhythm. Chance for blood clots, on blood thinners. One heart value has a hole in it and another heart valve isn't working very well.

Dr. says he has to operate and replace one heart valve and try to repair the hole in the other. So in a month or so they'll be cracking my chest open. Luckily, the Doc is the 2nd best in the country at doing this.

Still can't do much, still having a hard time breathing during the night. Looks like I might have to get on disability if things don't improve a lot after surgery.:shk:

Glad you went and got checked out. That is definitely one of the things you can't treat at home. Prayers for your recovery and peace of mind during this time.

Sorry for your troubles but doubly glad you went ahead and had it checked out. May the Great Physician guide the hands of your doc and your recovery and that you are so much better after you heal that you feel good as new or better.

I'm glad that you're ok. You should start talking with social services at the hospital, your county/parish, town & state. Have your family and friends rally around you and help you until you can get back on your feet again physically, emotionally, financially. You've been through the wringer, and more is coming your way.

Do you have a cardiologist appointment coming up soon? Have you been able to establish a primary Doctor yet as well? You'll need both. Your health conditions are forever, and they'll needed constant management, especially if they've got you on coumadin. See if there's a nurse hot-line that you can call to answer some of your questions as they come up.

I am SO glad that you went to the ED Brother, I really am.......Blessings to you.

I am soooooo glad you went to the ER and you will be getting all the help you need. Stress is NOT good, so try and stay positive in your thinking process. The hospital will keep you comfortable with medication until you are ok and totally ready to go home and also to take part in rehabilitation with other heart patients. (that is fun by the way....you get to be with people who are going through the same thoughts and worries). In a few months of resting at home when you are healing, you will need to take it easy. Maybe no stairs or once a day at most. So, if you like to read, try getting some good books or magazines from your library. I hope you have some good music too to listen to while you are resting at home. It will help to keep your mind off of worrying. GOD will take care of you. Pray if you are able and if you hurt too much right now, just silently ask HIM to help you and HE will. I am sooooo happy you soon will be well and doing good things again. So many of us have been through this kind of trouble and get back to work in about 6 months. Really. Good luck and we will all be praying for you. God Bless you.

Conrad, now you too please. Get this all checked out. It isn't always heart that causes those symptoms but you DO need to see a Dr. ASAP. God bless and let us know how you are doing please.
