Has anyone heard of an "onion sandwich"? I didn’t until today...

Is the onion raw? I never heard of it. Today was the first time I heard about a milk sandwich also.
Milk toast. With real butter and a little sugar it's not bad, when your hungry.

Poached egg on toast was a cheap treat too.

For us, yes raw and beautiful. A thick (up to 1/2" inch) slice of sweet onion is delicious on home made sourdough bread.

Good stuff.

Grand mother loved clabbered milk with leftover cornbread crumbles mixed in ( clabbered milk =kind of between butter milk and clotted milk )

My grandparents and Mom and Dad loved a tall glass of buttermilk with warm cornbread mixed in it. I wouldn't go near that stuff, LOL! I have eaten it with regular milk, though. It's not bad with a few slices of bacon on the side.

All of our onion and biscuit sandwiches used raw onions.

my grandma loves them. even eats onion and peanut butter.

barf.
That's how my Grandma Kitten ate them. I thought she was nuts until I tried it. Best with crunchy peanut butter. She also served me macaroni and canned tomatoes more than once.
My GM ate lard & brown sugar sandwiches as a child
My neighbor growing up, Orville Jackson introduced me to margarine on white bread sprinkled with sugar. He used to make it for his children when they were young. He died when I was still pretty little. My parents bought his land after his passing. My mom still owns it.
