Growing and Curing Tobacco

I'm hoping there are some experienced home use tobacco growers here. If it isn't too late in the season we'd like to get some seed and try it out.
We've no idea of seed supplier etc so any and all information would be appreciated.
We've been gifted a few times with home grown, dried and cut tobacco. The things we noticed was too dry or too wet. Also how do you cut it? What we received was too coarse we thought. But, perhaps there was a reason?

The September/October 1999 issue of Backwoods Home magazine had an article by J.D. Hooker: Raise tobacco for trade or barter in hard times. It was a good piece as I recall.

This thread from last week has some tobacco seed sources: http://www.timebomb2000.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=101124

Here's a few other possible sources:

This should get you going, I think.

Sarah: this is a forum I belong to - it will tell you everything you need to know. It has instructions for building a very inexpensive curing shed ($100 or so), and he carries a wonderful variety of seeds. I get all my seeds from him, and if I knew how to post pics, I could show you the absolutely beeyootiful plants I had last year. He recommends saving seed so you don't ever have to buy seed again.
Good luck! It still amazes me that a seed the size of a grain of sand can produce 8' plants that each produce millions of seeds!!

ps: I hope the link shows up right - I don't know how to do those, either.
