Food Green belly back pack meals

Has any one tried these, as in field tested? I keep an eye out for foods for our family's 72 hour packs. They look like energy/meal replacement bars. Thought the home made dried instant oatmeal cereal looked like a good idea. I don't know how this would stand up to being stored in a hot car over a summer. - OGM

I ran into this option when checking out this video on a guy planing food for a 5 day back pack trip.

Fair use.

Haven't tried them but they look like an oversized Clif bar. Comparing the nutritional information the Greenbelly is about 2.5 times in calories, carbs, etc. They are also just as shy in vits and minerals.

And I will be quite honest … Clif bars are like eating twice chewed cardboard to me. Shudder. They hold up on the trail however.

There is much on the supermarket shelf's that you can buy for this use and be the envy of everyone on the trial that just happens to spend the night or morning with you.
Give me a chance and see if I can come up with a video or two.

Heres another one and he takes you into Walmart and shows you the items on the shelf. Now the package chicken is available in 7 Oz packs under the Tyson name brand and most these have a shelf life of about three years.

I have taken boxes of Rice Roni (Spanich Rice Yum) and repackage it in zip-lock bags to save space and while it requires it be fried in pan this is not a problem and use some cooking oil or margarine, once browned I add the water and spice packet and add the chicken to it, you will have once of the best trail meals you can come up with and smells great too.
For long term storage for a bug-out bag I recommend a food-saver vacuum sealer and you can divide it up in serving size's you like.

I sell Thrive Life stuff so I make my own "freeze dried mres". Just toss in the stuff you want to eat, into a ziplock bag, boil some water and you should be good to go. I do have a video coming up on packing the meals, but I have in the past done a video on cooking the stuff in your thermos too. Those ricearoni packs are awesome too, you can even get spam in singles prepacked in thin metal bags now.

Here is a video I did a few months ago on some Home Made Mres I put together for quick trips, day hikes and my ARES gear too, much cheaper than MRES and easy to buy the stuff right off the shelf of any store.

Thanks for the excellent video! It gave me some great ideas for my own BOB! I've never thought of making my own MRE's.

good - as long as everyone that takes advantage of info - knows that the DIY version aren't a professionally packed MRE as pictured - it's for those limited time usage "for quick trips, day hikes and my ARES gear too" >>> you're still dealing with a zip lock bag and retail shelf packaging - and the food commercially preserved for limited store shelf time and pantry ....
