Gavin Newsom's 'Nightmare Scenario': 'A Candidate with Extraordinary Star Power'
Joel B. Pollak
3-3 minutes

Advisers to California Governor Gavin Newsom are reportedly worried about a “nightmare scenario” in which “a movie star or a candidate with extraordinary star power” enters the recall election that is now considered almost certain to occur.

The campaign to collect signatures to force the recall election has surpassed the minimum of 1.5 million signatures, and reported Wednesday that it had surpassed 1.8 million. Organizers hope to reach 2 million by the March 17 deadline.

In a feature by Los Angeles magazine, Peter Kiefer asks whether Newsom is vulnerable, given the recent collapse in his polling numbers. The governor remained popular throughout most of the pandemic, until he attended a party at the elite French Laundry restaurant in November, violating his own coronavirus guidelines — just as a new surge began, with near-statewide shutdowns of small businesses, and resistance from teachers’ unions to reopen schools in San Francisco and L.A.

Kiefer reports that Newsom is not worried about the candidates who have joined the race to replace Newsom thus far — former opponent John Cox, former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, and left-wing billionaire Chamath Palihapitiya. However:
[T]here are nightmare scenarios that have Newsom’s inner circle worried. “There’s no Republican on the scene right now,” says one Newsom adviser. “But that doesn’t mean a movie star or a candidate with extraordinary star power couldn’t rise out of nowhere. That’s what I’m nervous about.”
Governor Dwayne Johnson? It could happen.
Johnson, also known as “The Rock,” is a Democrat and has suggested he might run for president one day. But other “star power” candidates are possible, such as former Trump administration intelligence official and diplomat Ric Grenell.

I still think his "auntie Nan" will do everything in her power to protect him and keep him in office.
The description of Newsom as being the nephew of Nancy Pelosi is a bit of a stretch. The relationship is defined this way:

"His (Newsom's) aunt was married to the brother-in-law of Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-San Francisco, the House minority leader."

Per this article: NEWSOM'S PORTFOLIO / Mayoral hopeful has parlayed Getty money, family ties and political connections into local prominence

That doesn't exactly make him a nephew of Nancy Pelosi.

Sooner or later, a “Hitler” will rise, it has happened through out history, question is will he be leftist or rightist....

When this ball starts rolling the amount of money that's going to be dumped into the political campaigns is going to be huge.

Democrat and facts don’t belong in the same sentence.

Running Gene Simmons as a gov candidate is a great idea. But I got one better.

Run Ozzy Osbourne as a candidate for CA governor. LOVE his music, I think he would be a shoo in for governor. He's got the right qualities. Wealthy, talented, long history of drug use, prone to babbling incoherently, and he can blow hot and cold/liberal and conservative at the drop of a hat.
He's perfect!

I mean, 2003 was a literal clown car. Sure, Arnold won, but you had people like Gary Coleman also in the race.

I can only imagine who will come out of the woodwork this time.

Johnson is openly talking about politics. He needs to run as a Mayor or Governor to prove himself. He's young, likeable and the South Pacific Islanders aren't offensive to the general population at large. If you've noticed lately they are making inroads in sports and popular culture.

I for one think Newsome was one they were grooming as a presidential candidate for 2024 and one reason the long knives have came out for Governor Cuomo.

Donald Trump

oh sorry, we'll get someone in to clean up the exploded heads
I just came here to say that. You could be as residence in as little as one year. Wouldn't cost him a lot of money, as long as he kept his businesses and other states.

I give up.
Just announced on radio news KFBK out of Sacramento that Jenner has officially filed to run for governor.

Start getting the popcorn ready....

Yup.

Problem is, California is still full of Californians. Ultimately, nothing will change.
I resemble that remark. We're used to the hate and jealousy. Fruits and nuts add to the granola of life. The majority of Californians are just like everyone else, and the insults just roll off our backs. I would never speak about anyone in the other 49 states the way some people here talk bout Californians, but hey, whatever *shrug* You do you, boo.
