Light Garden Solar Lights for power outages

now that summer is ending its a good time to pick up some garden solar lights on sale, set some out and sock some away. skip the little cheaper skinny ones, look for the larger ones. they are excellent for power outages. we have a couple different kinds but our favorites are like these:

you can find them cheaper other places

they use one AA rechargeable battery and its a good idea to pick up a couple extra packs of the batteries for down the road.

the ones i have are similar to the above and even on a cloudy day they get a charge and shine all night, and all you have to do is remember to put them back outside in the morning.

they work real well in a power outage. i put one in the bathroom at night, one on the kitchen counter to see down the hallway, one in the bedroom and when im ready for bed i throw a ball cap over it.

there are alot of options for light in a power outage, wind up lanterns, flashlights, oil lamps, candles, but these are the best as far as im concerned especially if you have children or pets, no fear of something getting knocked over, no fear of fire and your not having to crank something over and over for light.

i also have tried the trick of taking a gallon jug of water and a head lamp, turning the headlamp on and strapping it over the jug where the light is facing inwards. the light diffuses and lights up the water jug. it works but it is a soft light. i didnt think it was great compared to a garden solar light but it works it you have nothing else. better than sitting in the dark. but you face having to replace the battery in the headlamp often if you do that.

snap up some garden solar lights and you will be glad you did.

the cheaper skinny ones would be great for kids, its like having their own 'flashlight' they can carry around and it will comfort them. not alot of light but it will make the kids feel good about having it if the power is off and they are scared of the dark and will also be like a nightlight for them. and those are cheap enough you can get several and stock up on them. just stick them around the yard and they will always be ready in an emergency. more cost effective than the glow sticks that will die out after awhile.

i also have several of these, d.light solar LED task lights, like spot lights with a stand that you can also hang up. they are great. all i do is put them in a sunny windowsill to recharge and i have used them 2 nights in a row without recharging and they are still good. they also have a plug where you can use a cell phone recharging cord to recharge if need be. but you dont really need to do that.

but to me, the garden solar lights are easiest because after a year or so you need to change out the AA rechargeable battery and it is very easy to do that with them. but if you get the better batteries they will last over 2 years or more.

this time of year im thinking of winter and the power outages that come every now and then. get some garden lights and youll never have to worry about sitting in the dark. might make a good barter item too

with all the craziness in the world today and threats going on, having some sets of garden solar lights is a good long term solution for light problems.

The d.light solar lights are great, we have both the lantern and the kind on a stand. The batteries hold a charge a long time. I bought them, charged them to make sure they worked, and stuck them in a box under a bed and forgot about them. Over a year later, I pulled them out when we had a power outage at night and they still worked and lasted until the power came back on.

I also have lots of patio solar lights, I have them in 3 or 4 places around our property. Where we live there are no street lights so it is pretty dark and spooky if you have to be outside for any reason at night. I have the kind that you stick in the ground and also a couple that look like lanterns that will sit flat on a table. They are outside, charging up year round just in case.... They are great to take camping too, to put around a campsite.

Yep. We did the same thing. A lot easier to keep these on hand than a million flashlights--and these just charge themselves.
