ADMIN FUNDRAISER - where we’re at and why I’ve been so slow

Lately, I’ve spent most of the day lying in bed. That scares me.
Since my colon surgery at the beginning of June, I get up around 8am to take a handful of pills, maybe sit up for an hour, then lay down. Nap. More pills at 1pm. Lay back down. Get up and have dinner, grab more pills to put bedside to take at lights-out and again at 1am, then lay down to watch tv. If I make it past 8pm watching TV, it's rare. Between the colon issue (causing bladder problems due to fistula) and a hernia, I've had abdominal pain, etc for 2 1/2 years. Hopefully the hernia surgery yesterday puts me on the mend, but all the BP meds don't help my stamina.

Spending "most" of the day in bed isn't great, but it beats "bed-ridden" where one can't get up. I hope your situation (and outlook) improves. Meanwhile, don't fret things here.

I have nothing to “do” if I get up.

Yes you do.

After your accident, everyone scrambled to cover for you when your time comes. Having contingencies in place is great, but that doesn’t mean that you are no longer needed.

Please reengage here because we all need you while you are here on this Earth and able to do so.

Don’t let your depression strip this from you.

Hey everyone. I finally got the snail mail open. Near as I can tell we're about $800 from goal. I’ll post this to the main thread. Anyway, I owe an explanation as to my procrastination. Unfortunately it’s going to totally sound like excuses, but it’s legit. Kris’ passing shook me a lot. Also, the past few months I’ve been fighting severe depression.>>>>>>
That's life Dennis.
We've all been there to some degree or other sometime and you've been on the receiving end of some crap for a good period of time now.
Take it easy on your self and relax; we figured you'd be back in a while and lookie there.
Here you are.

Just as important; Don’t let it strip YOU from US!

I have to take my Granddaughter to volleyball practice early in the morning. I will send another $40 cash snail mail while I am out (or first if the June envelope never made it).

ETA: If I have time to go into the Post Office, I will track this one; it will take a bit of the guessing out for me on if it even got there.

Dear chief curmudgeon
So sorry to hear of your physical and mental pain. Depression is a total bummer...been there myself a few times. It may help to remember that you are loved and appreciated by all of us here for everything you have done to keep the board up and running for all these years...and for your indomitable persona...
Your presence would be sorely missed...I send my deepest prayers for your healing

Dennis, might I boldly suggest a lot of your issues are from the physical reality of your accident. Can you, will you, look within, at your body, and decide what you would like to be in two years, one year, six months.....what would it take on a daily basis. Getting out of bed, or perhaps getting your legs over the side, leg lifts for instance....I'm suggesting the most basic physical fitness moves, that you can grow over time....make that your focus.....get stronger. Lose weight, grow muscle. You will feel better, the more mobile you become. Look long term, focus on short term. Pray, put God in that workout.

Blessings brother. It aint easy, repeat, it aint easy.

Honestly, this whole year has been too much for me. I just can't motivate. I can't help but wonder if I'm disconnecting from the world for some reason. That's scary.
It's a combination of long-term depression and (likely) PTSD (for very good multiple reasons...but especially the wreck)

It sounds like you're seeking help...that's the most important thing you can do for your future! While there are a lot of "haters" when it comes to antidepressant meds, they *can be* literally lifesaving. And anyone who says you "just need to get busy" has *never* experienced debilitating severe depression! It's chemical, and that has to be addressed before ANYthing else can improve.

I'd strongly encourage you to not just get some antidepressant meds (-but remember, not every med works on every person...if one doesn't help, or has intolerable side effects, try another) but also to talk to a counselor or psychologist...you've been through a lot of stressful and negative crap in the past 25 years...something like Cognitive Behavior Therapy might be very helpful.

Prayers for your recovery...I've BTDT, and its truly unimaginable for those who haven't experienced it.

Yes...look into "chair yoga". You CAN improve your health, strength and mobility.

Yeah, I've got a fairly strict schedule of when I take my meds, specifically my pain meds. If I were to wait until I hurt to take them I'd spend a great portion of my day in misery. I've got my phone setup with daily alarms to remind me to take them. There is some wiggle room, but I've found consistency to be crucial.

I even suggest to my Mom that she follow a similar schedule. She later tanked me because she found that if she follows a schedule she feels much better.

ALL of that!!

You HAVE TO feed, pet & take Hairy out, right? Maybe play with him? Weren't you exploring the possibilities of writing with some new tech or phone? You eat & go to the bathroom, right? Those are ALL "doing something".

At my age, I've learned to give myself the grace to not judge myself by the old standards of "productivity" (which was equated with my worth as a human)... when there are internal mental problems to solve or emotional upheavals to accept and integrate into my reality. IT IS OK to take some time (and no one can say how much is enough) to do these things. As long as while you're doing them, you are still noticing everything around you - is it a sunny day? overcast? hot? (how hot?) can you try a mental experiment and see your space with "fresh eyes"? Exercise your imagination - how would that wall look if it were painted THIS COLOR instead? Or you moved that piece of furniture - there? How do YOU want to look or feel? and is there anything you can think of that MIGHT get you one baby step closer?

I can take most of a day, to simply sit and watch the trees in the breeze and appreciate the twinkles and sparkles of the leaves and that is actually therapeutic most of the time. Arbitrarily imposed "shoulds" be damned! It will still be there tomorrow "to do", as long as I am.

Like a bunch of others, I’ve been behind the curve, will get funds for me and a couple of others on the way. Hopefully we laggards make up the deficit!
