ADMIN FUNDRAISER - where we’re at and why I’ve been so slow

Hey everyone. I finally got the snail mail open. Near as I can tell we're about $800 from goal. I’ll post this to the main thread. Anyway, I owe an explanation as to my procrastination. Unfortunately it’s going to totally sound like excuses, but it’s legit. Kris’ passing shook me a lot. Also, the past few months I’ve been fighting severe depression. It’s worse than it’s ever been. Then the wheelchair mess, Aja, and on and on. I’ll do better next year, I promise. But I beg forgiveness for all this. I’ll post the global email soon to try and drag us over the line.

Again, sorry everyone.

No need to apologize we get it.

Dennis, please know that you are important to all of us here. Even when you are not as involved like you used to be (oh my stars, so many grammar errors slipping through) you are the heart of this forum. Now you've got me crying, you are important and needed here.

Did an envelope ever arrive from me? (should have arrived in June) I can't remember if it was $20 or $40, but it was cash.

I had mailed two things that day in June (17 i think was the date), both were going to places in Texas.

The one that was going to Dallas took two weeks to finally get there.

I had that one tracked (I din't track the TB2k funds).

the one that was going to Dallas (preprinted return envelope from company for a bill) was sent to Dulles Airport in Washington DC. ( Dulles, Dallas I can almost kinda sorta see how it happend if I stand on my head and look sideways.) Then it was sent to four other locations in Washington DC. Finally, it was finally sent to Dallas (it took another 3 days to go to Dallas, and then 2 days to get delivered.

Lately, I’ve spent most of the day lying in bed. That scares me.
If due to depression, that's maybe ok for 1 or 2 days, but not longer. You have to MAKE YOURSELF get up and get to it, even when it seems pointless. I know this. Also, though doctors (psychologists or psyciatrists) defintiely have their place, relatively few of them have firsthand experience with clinical, let alone congential, depression. The old Nike ad, 'Just Do It,' is definitely in order.

It's understandable Dennis and no one is faulting you, but only you can pull yourself out of this depression.

I felt like you after I retired. "I have no purpose." After a pity party of a few months, someone suggested I make a 'To Do' list each night before going to bed. "Even if it's just ONE THING you put on your list for tomorrow, and you do it, you will feel you have accomplished something." And it worked for me!

Rephrase it Dennis. "I have nothing I WANT to do when I get up."

I'm sure your refrigerator needs cleaning out and scrubbed down. (That's on my list for tomorrow). When was the last time you went through your canned goods? Any expired dates? Are your books and DVD's alphabetized yet? How many cobwebs are on your ceilings? When was the last time you cleaned your oven? Have you washed the nose prints off your windows and storm door? Have you gone through your kitchen and desk drawers and organized them? How dusty and dirty are your light fixtures?

These are not things we want to do but have to do to stay clean, organized, and sane; and notice how I didn't say get out a mow or weed or even clean your baseboards!

I'll be praying for you my friend.

I totally understand and get that. It sounds scarily familiar. Ever since I got my disability I got the side dish of depression. I can't think like I used to. I really took it hard a while back when I had a computer problem and found it a hard slog to try to fix. Never had that happen before. What sucks even more is I can't even do any of the physical stuff anymore. Hell, I tried to help my dad install and troubleshoot a new garage door opener and it was a disaster.

I'm 56. Effectively retired. On a tight budget. Some days it feels like I'm just wasting the days spinning my wheels waiting to die. When my brother-in-law passed two months ago I had some jealousy that he got to die and I didn't. On the bad pain days the only reason I don't expedite the issue is because I promised both my mom and The Wife that I wouldn't. When our miniature dachshund suddenly had to be put down less than a week after my brother-in-law passed it got really rough. Lilly wasn't even my dog, but she had the entire family wrapped around her finger. When we would get back from being out she would greet everyone with a whine and drop and demand belly rubs. She did this with everyone.

All that to say I know depression all to well and feel for you. I'll keep you in my prayers. My depression is like a huge thunderstorm. It suddenly shows up with little notice and all you can do grab a hold of something and try to weather the storm.

We did eventually find something that helps me a lot, but after my shrink moved to a different practice I lost access until I convinced my primary care to take up the prescription. Getting back on it came with a new set of problems in I suddenly found myself sleeping 12 hours or more. After two weeks I quit taking it because I couldn't get anything done. I'll try again later when the weather gets cooler and my arthritis spikes past my pain meds ability to deal with it. The sleep will help and eventually I'll get used to it again. In case you are wondering the medication is Auvelity. Back when I was taking it on a regular basis and not sleeping all day it worked great.

Well, I’m late with mine…haven’t mentioned it here as have been overwhelmed past couple months. Brother with whom I live, age 69, was cutting top limbs on a huge cottonwood near the house to fall it. He know how, was another logger in the fam and cuts at least one big tree each year. This time the rotten cotton branch broke under him and he fell 65 feet to the hard ground. Broke many bones including a frac skull, pelvis and sternum. Long stay in hospital, he’s home now, improving each day and walking now. I’m chief caretaker.

Tl;dr: I’ll get the $ to you first week August. Thanks! <3

Hey, I've been procrastinating on getting my check in the mail. If I might offer a partial excuse, I've had two freakish bad falls in the past month. Both were backwards falls and landed right on the worst part of my bad back. The docs are sending me for yet more imaging.

I've been rather distracted. Check will go out no later than he beginning of next week.

Best
Doc

I have nothing to “do” if I get up.

A few weeks ago you were talking about a membership at the gym. That is something to do and so is taking care of Harry who recently loss Aja as well. If there is nothing external making you get up and stay active then you need to find something internal to motivate you to do so. That is one thing about retirement I had to deal with as well. Since I’m not forced to get up at a certain time to go to work I’ve had to replace that, etc.

Make yourself go to the gym a few days in a row and don’t let yourself off the hook and you will start to discover that you want to and not because you have to. And just make a point of doing a little more tomorrow than you did today and you’ll start looking forward to it.

I know it isn’t easy and nobody said it would be but you just lie there in bed it will get worse and worse. Just making yourself get up and do something is half the battle.
