Food Full Pantry

Now that I have a full pantry the only food that I'm buying is to replace what I use. No more big hauls are needed, so I'm not going to the store much lately. I'm continuing to get it all organized, when I have the energy.

ETA: my bank account is heaving a sigh of relief.

If we didn't live in the cold north, it might be different. But lately I am thinking if I had to do this over, I would increase all preps, buy local from Amish, and only keep the animals that were absolutely necessary.
Its blowing fierce with a lot of snow and temps going down in - degrees for next week maybe. Animals outside need good shelter and tended in all kinds of weather.

My problem is using foods up before they sneak by their best by date. I have to do better on food rotation.
Same here.

I’m getting a lot better after hub putting up my small shelves in the basement and when our new frig arrived.

I also *** learned a hard lesson when I had to throw out two grocery bags of foods that went horribly rancid. Never ever, store crackers and or snacks unless plan on using them within a year.
Especially when you find some under the pile that are ten years old omg so gross! They literally turned into a chemically, burned tasting mess.

I vacuum seal crackers in mason jars and they stay fresh for a long time.

My problem with rotating foods in my pantry is that we just don't eat that many meals in a day. Yesterday we went out to eat chinese because we were sick of my cooking.

I'll probably never go through all the flour and sugar that I have stored because we are not bread eaters and I don't bake. DH puts sugar in his coffee and that is about what we use on a daily basis for sugar. And besides I am firmly convinced that eating bread all the time is not good for ones health. It isn't that we don't like it, we just don't eat it.

I found a relatively "easy" way to do this. When I can and/or preserve, the oldest stuff gets used first.

Another way to use up those canned veggies is to make a crock of vegetable soup, chunky/veggie spaghetti sauce, OAMC (once a month cooking) casseroles that can be frozen and reheated.

I’m getting better . Especially with the canned goods.

Right now I’m rotating meats out of the big freezer and seriously NEED to get some large holes filled back up! Plenty of pork but my chicken is way too low, as are my beef roasts.

Guess I’ll have to venture out today or tomorrow but it’s tooooo cold lol.

We are replacing what we use, and I usually add one or two more items of what we used. We do buy fresh produce once or twice a week too. I'm just shocked at how quickly grocery prices are rising.

I do the same thing, replacing what I use over a two week period. Don't buy fresh produce quite that often, though. Will be glad when gardening time gets here.

Also, I'm always on the look out for new foods to try that will make good storage items. If I try something new, and we like it, I will start stocking a lot of that product in my pantry. It gives me a larger variety of foods to choose from when planning out my menus for the week. Everyone needs a large variety of foods to choose from. Food fatigue is no fun.

Heh....nothing like running out of toilet paper and having to consider the alternatives.
True. I am ready for the alternative.....but yeah, we'll be ok for a bit here. As long as nephew doesn't steal it all again, lol.
