FOOD Freezers appearing in stores

Heads up, I was just able to buy an upright freezer at my local Lowe’s. They had one listed as available for in store purchase only. They didn’t have that one, which apparently has been an inventory ghost for months, but did have another.

A few hours later I saw two chest freezers at my local Home Depot.

Those of you that are looking, there is some hope!

See.

Our freezer was so old it had to be manually defrosted, which was a real PITA. Ordered a new 16 cu. ft. upright from Home Depot on January 12th with an "earliest" delivery date of 1/30. Lo and behold, it was delivered today. Thank you President Biden! <sarc>

Yes, there are sales right now on freezers.

I picked up another five cubic foot chest freezer and placed a Johnson's Control
thermostat on it and turned it into a refrigerator. I'm hoping to keep fresh
garden potatoes and veggies longer. I already can and freeze a lot but want
to keep fresh around longer.

I like the smaller freezers for lots of reasons.

I have been looking at the Exchange/AFFEEs web site. They have refrigerators but no freezers.

AAFES is currently going through their yearly inventory this week and next. After that they will start showing up again. The larger A stores stock a unit or two, it's order only in the smaller PXes.

Somewhere there was a photo of all those container ships lined up to get into Long Beach. I was thinking that there would be an uptick in goods for a time after those got unloaded. That's been within the last two weeks. I've got a dishwasher on my wish list.

Yeah . . . and I could make jokes about finding a young male. But at the end of the day, they are too expensive to feed.
I want a nice Kitchenaid dishwasher but I'll settle for a Maytag. The one I have will cost more to repair than it's worth at this point.

Glad to hear freezers are back in stock. I’m in the market for a larger unit, upright, and frost free unit. My wife’s small chest freezer from college days is still going strong but I’d like some more room and shelves.

I have a question for the group. Is it better to put such an appliance in the basement or in a garage? I live in the lower Midwest so in the summer the garage is warm but in the winter, very cold so I don’t think the freezer has to run much in the winter months. The basement tends to be on the cooler side year round. I’ve seen many different set-ups and just was wanting to get some ideas.

We got an upright 2 weeks ago from Lowe's. Purchased on a Sunday and delivered 2 days later. Happy!

Walmart here in south central Wyoming on I-80 (a very small Walmart super store), has a dozen or so 5.0 cubic foot chest freezers, at the front of the store near the outdoor supplies. The store is probably a third the size of a big city Walmart superstore.

Strangely, they had twice as many chest freezers in the Xmas sale items where normally they would have paper towels. This part of Wyoming has a very active hunting community. They should sell out soon. Town is Rawlins, Wy.

Sarasota Florida area: All January Lowes and Home Depot here have had 5 cf for $189 and 7 cf for $229 and even a weekend sale of 10% to 15% off once in a while. Last week Costco had 15cf (pallets full).

DO NOT put it in the garage unless it is rated for outdoor use... the vast majority won't run if the ambient temp is 20 degrees or lower...

I kniw, it's counterintuitive, but modern refrigerants aren't nearly as tolerant as the older ones.
