The Tomb of the Honey Bee (The Posie Parker Mystery Series Book 2)
by L.B. Hathaway

A novelist writing a tell-all memoir, a society beauty asking for help, an international explorer in danger. This is one for Posie Parker! Summer, 1921. Newly successful Private Detective Posie Parker was about to enjoy a restful summer. Think again! Invited by society beauty Lady Violet Boynton-Dale to her ancestral home, Boynton Hall, to investigate dangerous threats which are being made against her brother, the dashing Explorer Alaric Boynton-Dale, Posie leaves London for the sun-dappled beauty of the Cotswolds. She finds that Boynton Hall is a place of opulent grandeur, but also of dark secrets, not least that Alaric is a man with jilted lovers and jealous husbands left trailing in his wake. Garden parties and formal dinners abound, but a brooding mood persists. Why does the host, Lord Roderick Boynton-Dale, resent Posie's presence at his home? And why does the resident novelist, Dame Ianthe Flowers, relish the poisonous atmosphere? Is Dame Ianthe simply looking for material for her new book, or, as she implies to Posie, does she have secret knowledge to impart?

Searching for Dr. Harris: The Life and Times of a Remarkable African American Physician
by Margaret Humphreys

This is the untold story of Dr. J. D. Harris (1833-1884), an African American physician whose life and career straddled enormous changes for Black professionals and the practice of medicine. Born in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Harris served as a contract surgeon to the Union army and transitioned to a similar post under the Freedmen's Bureau, treating Black troops and freedpeople in Virginia. Margaret Humphreys not only narrates what we know about Harris but offers context to his remarkable journey, including how incredible it was that a young man born into freedom in a slave state learned to read when literacy for Black people was illegal. He was one of very few African Americans to become a doctor before Howard Medical School opened in the 1870s, a fact that both reveals the structural barriers to medical education for Black Americans and highlights how those structures weakened in the 1860s.

My People the Sioux
by Luther Standing Bear

The classic memoir of the Sioux Nation by the early-twentieth century Indian rights activist and son of a Lakota chief. When it was originally published in 1928, Luther Standing Bear's autobiographical account of his tribe and tribesmen was hailed by Van Wyck Brooks as "one of the most engaging and veracious we have ever had." It remains a landmark in Native American literature, among the first books about Native Americans written by a Native American. Born in the 1860s, the son of a Lakota chief, Standing Bear was in the first class at Carlisle Indian School, witnessed the Ghost Dance uprising from the Pine Ridge Reservation, toured Europe with Buffalo Bill's Wild West show, and devoted his later years to the Native American rights movement of the 1920s and 1930s.
