While we are starting to go far afield I thought the term was Mulatto.
The English term and spelling
mulatto is derived from the
Spanish and
Portuguese mulato. The origin of
mulato is left out by Daniel Webster in the 1947 printing of his dictionary, but it is a common term from the Southeastern United States during the era of slavery. It likens the mating of white people and black people to be the same as mating a horse and a donkey, the result being mules. Hince "mul atto" to specify mixed race people
Maroon. Term made famous by
Bugs Bunny meaning a pushover, or one easily fooled.
However they did use it to describe run away slaves, not a mixed race.
