TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A father fatally shot his son at a hospital in Sebring on Thursday before turning the gun on himself.

According to the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began after a 66-year-old man brought his adult son to AdventHealth Sebring.

“Reportedly, the father was having difficulties with his son, who was being somewhat combative,” HCSO wrote in a release.

Emergency room staff admitted him to a mental health room. At around 11:26 a.m., The father drew a handgun and fired shots at the wall “in an apparent attempt to get other people out of the room,” according to the sheriff’s office.

He then shot his son, who was laying in a hospital bed, before turning the gun on himself. Both men died at the site of the shooting and HCSO said no bystanders were injured.

The incident sent the hospital into lockdown and ambulances are being diverted to another hospital as deputies investigate.

I wonder how many years he's been trying to get some... any... help for his mentally ill son, with every law favoring the son's "rights", and nothing actually being done?

Summerthyme

This was how it was with my Bipolar Brother...tried and TRIED and did I say we tried to get help for him. It was horrible.
THEN my DS was diagnosed with Schizoaffective Disorder with Psych Tendencies.

My Brother told me that we would have WAY more trouble with our Son than he ever gave Mom and Dad. I didn't believe him, but he saw something in my two year old boy and he was dead-on correct.

My Brother died in 2013 at the age of 52.

God intervened with my Son. He has a great mental health support system at an agency where he lives and is doing well.

God gave me a peace about that Child when he was in the depths of the depths. He gets the glory for all of that.

I feel for EVERYONE dealing or affected by loved ones with mental issues. It's a special hell all its own.

A recent court decision renders parents criminally responsible for whatever their children do.........
So wrong...........

"the soul that sinneth, IT shall die"

"the parents have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge..." (AND vice-versa)
