Harvest First harvest of home grown Saffron

Any idea what it takes to process it for seasoning yet?

Pick in the early morning (the drier the weather the better
Carefully and slowly dry
Store in dark, cool and airtight containers
If stored properly, good for up to three years.

I planted 25 bulbs and they are all starting to come up now. Twenty-five bulbs will provide approximately 75 stigmas (threads) per year. Saffron is a perennial and will get larger each year and produce clusters of bulbs. Only the red stigmas are edible. The leaves, flowers, and bulbs of this plant are poisonous if ingested.

I wonder if my normal nemesis: chipmunks, gophers and squirrels can ingest this plant and survive? I guess I'll find out.
