Understood. Incredibly useful medium. But frankly, absent a emergency, it is quite boring. So...who is so afraid? I’m just not having any pleasant dreams these days.

Yep, going to make a criminal out of any ham talking good things about Pres Trump. It's started, stand by, more to come.

Man o Manochevitz, it just keeps getting weirder.
You all have heard about their concern of insurrectionists in Police and Guard Forces in DC... What’s next??? :kaid:

It almost seems that no matter what we do it will be a "Crime".

If we are looked at as outlaws we need to play the part and play it well.

Well all over DC frequency jamming is in effect. Only mil & necessary comms are going through. I just think the FCC felt left out of the alphabet soup so needed their 10 seconds of fame. Just like with guns-bad guys don’t worry about laws, only successfully pulling off their crime.

Or one could look at this as a way to add federal charges against antifa and blm groups that have been using all sorts of radios illegally...

They have so far been found to be using everything from Baofengs set to FRS/GMRS, MURS, and Business band (especially Intirsitial channels), and a few times the Amateur bands (without a license or callsign). None of which is legal, before you add in the extra illegal acts of using any radio communications device in the commission of a crime (which even includes using a cellphone, scanner, or GPS in the commission of a crime).

Singling out amateur radio operators as potential nefarious actors is patently offense.

They are the absolute last people who would pose any sort of threat.
Right. How many times have you seen an old timer tear a new guy with a Boafang apart?

Yeah----but----they read here, too.

I've seen the many posts recc'ing having Ham access / training so as to be able to communicate when TSHTF.

The LAST thing a dictatorial state wants is people ABLE to communicate.....

I need the help of you ham / radio enthusiasts, please.

As I've mentioned before, my son is a Rail-fan, and part of his hobby is buying a scanner, antennas, and listening-in to communications from Norfolk-Southern and CSX railroads. He can pick up 'just' the dispatchers via the scanners, but to get ALL the signals (such as the crew-to-crew or crew-to-dispatch communications) or the tracking information on the trains that is broadcast from the track detectors, he needed an antenna. (They all come in on the same channel, but the dispatcher signals are much stronger, so an antenna is needed to pick up the other two types).

About January 12, my son's BRAND-NEW "traintenna" antenna (TrainTenna Vertical Outdoor Base Antenna) just suddenly stopped working. He got it for a Christmas present and set it up Dec. 24, and for two glorious weeks he was thrilled as it was picking up, clearly and with no static, signals from over 8 miles away at the CSX line (it has a range of up to 20 miles). He could clearly hear not only the dispatcher but crew communications and the track detectors.

Today a repairman came to fix something at our house and overheard us talking about the antenna problem. He happened to be into HAM radio, and told us that it's big news on all the HAM radio forums that at about that same time--Jan 12---the FCC did an "update" that effectually either SHUT DOWN or SEVERELY LIMITED radio signals, and it's affecting HAM radio as well.

Have any of you experienced this problem?

Countrymouse,

Why does that link try to save on my hard drive?

I'm deleting the link.

I'll remove it from the post then. In fact, I've edited the post to make it ONLY about the problem my son is having, and the comments we heard today from the guy at our home who is a HAM radio operator and told us about the "new update" that is apparently JAMMING some HAM and other radio signals.

It was on the original post in BS--I just copied it.

Red Baron--can you PLEASE put my thread back again? It was a DIFFERENT SUBJECT than this one--and putting it here i fear no one will see it and it will be totally LOST. My son needs help--and the only place I know to get it is the other HAM people here. Please? I'll take the link totally out of the thread if you'll please re-open it. Thanks!

Can't reverse a merged thread.

Start a new thread specific to your son's situation.

Confirmation of jamming would be ideal also.
