ADMIN FAQs ON THE NEW SOFTWARE

I tried a search yesterday with a fairly long string of words.

It brought up lots of posts, but was highlighting individual letters instead of the words I had used.

None of the results were what I was looking for.

Search is definitely wonky. I was able to find some ancient threads which the previous search hadn't brought up in years... but especially when just clicking on "content" in my user CP, it's missing years of posts.

I can not attest to whether or not it is.
I've been on a few other Xenforo sites for a while now, and once I got used to it I realized how much better it really is.

I have no doubt this site will be improving more and more.

A minor missing tool I used to use a bunch isn't available, I believe.

USED to be able to click on the number of posts for a thread and get a list of the posters who have posted on it.

This tool isn't available, apparently.

Not a HUGE deal but more a small pain in the back.

I just discovered that clicking on the thread prefix of an existing thread will cause it to only show other threads with the same prefix instead of the forum list with different prefixes. For example, if you clicked on "CHAT" then it would show all the "CHAT" threads in a forum. It's entertaining and maybe useful.

So I'll assume that unless you stumble on some module that does the "Who Posted" thang we aren't going to have it anytime in the next half a year or so if that. No biggie but a nice "Mixewell" if we get a round tuit.

And no, I don't THINK you want me trying to code it... ROFLOL what a mess THAT would become!!!

Lol night driver! Great minds think alike!!
...and so do OURS, apparently! :: Grins ::

I've sorely missed that feature and brought it up a few times myself.

What, who’s read a thread? Yes, that’s available as an add-on. You folks are going to have to grow some serious patience.

Nice tip. It occurs to me that having all of our forum sections posts laid out might be useful to heal the seperation we've undergone. We are kind of like one big family, again.

On the other hand, that might be a bad thing, as folks don't want to wade through what doesn't interest them in order to see what does....which is solved by your tip? Good job!:applaud:

OMG!!!! Yall unpacked our good china and our best emoticons while I was out?! Ya know what that means!! HAPPY DANCIN' TIME!! <3

We are not impatient...although you are spoiling us with how quickly you're getting things scratched of your do-due list!

I’m just afraid that somehow, our old software will kak for good before I get everything transferred over. That’s what’s driving me so hard.

i need to pull the rank insignia images next.

My question: I used to get email notifications of new posts on a thread. They had a list of the new posts since my last visit. Now, I get the alert emails, but it only shows a link to the thread and I have to go read the thread to see if there's any new real information or just a few one-line responses.

Is this something I can change? While I stumbled on a bunch of other buttons looking for it, I haven't found the knob for that setting.

I miss being able to see at the bottom of the thread who is watching...

I also miss being able to "highlight" a section, copy and paste to move it forward, and then have the software put the quote box around it still highlighted.

The alternative seems to be pre and post ASCII quote notation.

Yeah - details. But for me keystrokes are important.

Maybe there is a better way now?

Highlight a section to be quoted, then a small dialogue box opens.

Click "quote" to add to multi-quote or "reply" to put a single quote directly in reply box.

For multi-quote...

At the bottom of the reply section, click "insert quotes"

Another dialogue box opens, choose the quotes you want to insert. On that box is an "insert quotes" button, that should put them in the reply.

At first it was all kinda cumbersome for me too. Now that I'm getting accustomed to it, I like it.

The "test" area was my friend....for awhile. :D

Do you get notifications from the little bell icon near your name top right? If not you can change that in Preferences.

Dennis, can you pin the "Post how to do stuff" thread near FAQs?
I think it will be a frequently read thread for a while.

I do see those as well as email notifications.
in the old system the email had new posts appended to it. Now we have to login and go to the thread to see them.
I used to judge by the email if I wanted to login and read new messages. No longer have the option.
It’s not a big deal, just a convenience factor And should be way down the list of things to change.

This software has the option to turn off email content and just send the notices. I’m experimenting to see if it saves any bandwidth.

This may have been covered (if so, I apologize for missing it) but how do you get back to the last post YOU, yourself, viewed on a thread? Not "new posts", just the last one you read? I'm days behind, don't even recall last read page number.

With embedded youtubes, if you click the play arrow it plays.

If you click the title in the video, it takes you to the video, in YT, in a new tab.

Dennis, a very grateful Thank You from me for something wonderful with this new software. The legibility of the post is incredibly improved with excellent contrast. Since one of my meds blew The optic nerve in my right eye, and wrecked the peripheral vision in my left eye, I’ve been really struggling online - even trading in a series 6 iPad for the Better screen and graphics of an Air 3 (I was surprised the Air didn’t have Contrast adjustable either, but I am seeing things better) . You seem to have achieved a just right shade of yellow background, to enhance the excellent clarity of the sharp black text. Well done, thank you again, and a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you, and to you all.

I am having coolie problems also, apparently. Log in, read a thread, get booted, click on ACCEPT and get told YOU MUST BE LOGGED IN TO DO THAT.

Sometimes three times at the beginning of a session. Could as likely be this breaking down laptop as anything else, I don't know. But I can accept cookies, log in, do a couple of things and then get told I have to log in. Again.

Was supposed to be COOKIE problems, typo. But it seems funny to me so I left it :D
