Is there a limit on attachment size, and how can I resize photos on my phone?

Yes. It’ll ultimately be about what we have now. Working with images on one’s cell phone is outside the scope of these discussions. But using multiple megs of boards resourc es for each image is not rational.

Is it OK to start a thread on the new board that we intend to be ongoing or will it get "frozen " and no one can post to it after the final snapshot is taken?

I understand that the snapshot will be of this board but after it is integrated with the new one, will the whole thing then be considered "old" and we start all new threads?

I hope I explained that right.

The new board’s database will be wiped at import time. If you want something to be ongoing, post it here.

If you paste a youtube link, it automatically embeds it. If you want to post a youtube link and have it NOT embed then you have to use the Insert Link (looks like 2 chain links).

EDIT: this new software desperately wants to embed everything it can. If you do like above and get it to insert a link, the first time you edit and save, it embeds it anyway. Sometimes I might want to paste a link and have it stay a link.

EDIT2: I posted the weekend movie thread there as a test and it seems to work OK, just a little different except no direct youtube links. :)

If you start to edit a post, there seems to be no way to "cancel" out without saving. Even if you close that window and come back to the thread, it's still waiting with all the edits you decided not to save. If you hadn't made changes, it's easy to save and move on. However if you have made a lot of changes, how do you leave without posting the now-unwanted changes?

Save, preview, cancel

At the bottom of the edit screen.

HELP. Just tried to register on new board. (been gone and off line).

It wants 3 letters in my name. I have always used LC.

It also says my email is in use and I can't use it. Someone please help.

I was confused, sorry. It happens if you hit reply (with quote) then don't want to post the reply. I just tried closing the entire browser then opening it again. The reply w/quote is still waiting for you to do something when you go back to the thread.

I can see the "cancel" when editing.

You shouldn't have to re-register, just log in with your screen name and regular password.

I just posted and saw something that might be useful for "unfurl" vs no-unfurl.

I put in an amazon link (simple copy and paste) and the rest of the message then hit preview:

It started with this and was going to unfurl: (URL unfurl="true")

I changed it to this and it did not unfurl: (URL unfurl="false")

Note I changed the square brackets to parenthesis so it would show correctly here.
This looks like a simple fix if you do not want it to unfurl a link.

It looked like it was going to do the teaser unfurl for the amazon link.

To me, the nice thing was finding HTML code that is easy to change if you want to stop unfurl on a link. Just change the "true" to "false"

EDIT: it looks like this only works if it will not be unfurling properly. I tested a youtube link and it simply unfurled in the preview with no obvious way to change the unfurl to false.

New Problem?

I posted to the new members thread. Got an email saying I have a response to read. Clicked on that "VIEW THIS THREAD" button and it can't find the forum from that link. States "Server Not Found" The link is

The “cf” was a typo that’s since been fixed. Manually change the link to “xf” instead of “cf”. Problem solved.

Clicking a THREAD TITLE TAKES YOU TO THE FIRST UNREAD POST IN THE THREAD. Since none of us have read ANY of these (newly imported) threads, that’s the FIRST POST.

Click the LAST POST TIME/DATE TO GO TO THE LAST POST IN THE THREAD.

SERIOUSLY, this is answer #28 in the FAQ thread. Are none of you reading the FAQs?

If you're talking about the link from the old site to here, it's still giving this when you click on it. :

If it's copied and pasted into the address box it works as it should now.

I like the new look! Hopefully I’ll get the hang of it quickly.

Thank you for all the time and effort you put into this, Dennis!

Dennis, I saw in your commentary that you were going to see about making the whatchamacallit pics... avatars! (I told y'all, I'm a computer moron!)... square instead of the default round. I see you found that tweak, and for that I thank you! (y)

Dennis,

When I was at work, I linked to TB2K and it worked fine and I was able to logon. When I got home, I did the same and got an error. I went to the old site and got an error. I have been getting that for hours and assumed the site was down. So, just for giggles, I deleted the /xf and it connected just fine. This is the link that I saved on my home page settings and it is working. http://xf.timebomb2000.com/xf/index.php

Some of the redirect may not be working correctly.

There is supposed to be an auto save feature in this software.

I started a reply to a post on my phone, got busy and left that thread.

Opened up my laptop when I got home and that partial reply was in the thread.

Auto save does work.

on my desk top puter, the New Posts are not in order of time, I find yesterdays posts near the top, and 13 minutes old near the bottom?

Are you sure that some aren't in the "sticky" threads? They will stay at the top if you are just looking at the main.

Are you looking at "what's new" or "new posts"?

I had an issue last night with search. I posted about a medical sale for black friday this year. Even using my name and a known-good search term (black, pressure, skinny, etc.), it would not find that thread. It did find older threads that matched though. I was able to find the thread manually because I knew where it was within a day or 2.

Is the search index still building and hasn't caught up to the most recent posts?

I don’t know. I haven’t learned about search yet. Try posting some nonsense word in the Test Forum, then try searching for it.
