Yep... we saw 45 and 43.. yesterday our high didn't even reach 60. Harvested another 2 bushels of tomatoes... I have to count the bags in the freezer, but hubby says we're running out of room, so I think there's probavly 6 bushels frozen so far. We freeze them as they ripen, then take a day and run them all through the Squeezo and start the sauce and soup, canning productionIt was 43 here in NH this morning. Chilly!

Heat Ridge to Bring Back Summer to the U.S.
I think most of us are ready for fall to come and stay for a little while. But if you're in the central and eastern U.S. and thought the summer was behind us, I have some unfortunate news.
The remnants of Typhoon Merbok, a tropical cyclone that developed in the western North Pacific, have already been interacting with the Pacific jet stream. Believe it or not, recurving typhoons can have a profound effect on the downstream weather for a week or more after the event occurs. In this particular case, Merbok entered a region of the jet favorable for its intensification and is currently producing over 50-foot waves in the Bering Sea.
This interaction will cause the jet stream to do what you'd expect a hose to do if you were to grab the end of it and start quickly moving your arm up and down. Notice how much wavier the jet stream will be this upcoming Tuesday compared to this past Tuesday. A wavier jet stream can equate to more extreme weather, on the cold and hot end of the spectrum.
Not me. My tomato plants were a bust this year. First no rain and then days of 5-inch rainstorms and for the last three weeks, no rain. I pulled up the cherry tomatoes. They came on with such vengeance, I couldn't keep up! Then I tasted one and NOTHING! Just yanked the plant so I wouldn't have such a cleanup. The regular tomatoes are just about ripening and then the idiot squirrels are getting them! I've found them all over the yard, barely ripe and half eaten! Most people around here have already yanked theirs up.And here I am hoping to make it two more weeks before freezing temperatures try to wipe out the tender veggies.
I saw some pics on FB, western Alaska is getting hammered. This Typhoon Merbok should be watched. Its been said that it is the biggest for Alaska in 70 years.
The last line of the above "can equate to more extreme weather, on the cold and hot end of the spectrum."
I expect it will push cold air further south earlier and will suck warmer air up from the Gulf behind it.
Went for a walk this morning and even though it was cool, things were still green and reasonably full. Seems a bit odd for this late in the season. No sign of Fall, really. Then five minutes after seeing this thread, I heard geese flying south overhead.
