If you're a gun owner, you literally need to drop everything you're doing right now and oppose this bill.
HR 5717 is the worst anti-gun legislation that FPC has ever seen. It could end gun rights in totality within a generation.

And now Rep. Hank Johnson has introduced a bill that rolls up all of Gunpocalypse - and more - into one federal bill.
HR 5717 would:
  • Create a nationwide gun registry
  • Ban almost all semiautomatic rifles
  • Institute a federal Magazine Ban
  • Implement national "Red Flag" gun confiscation
  • Tax guns at 30% and ammo at 50%
  • Ban patriots under 21 from exercising their Second Amendment rights
  • Ration guns by making it illegal to purchase more than one firearm in a 30-day period
  • Force "Safe Storage" requirements on gun owners
  • Ban home builds
  • Ban suppressors
  • Force FFLs to spend massive amounts of money to comply with new "security" requirements
  • Expand "Gun Free Zones"

HR 5717 is so sweeping and all-encompassing that it is literally an ENCYCLOPEDIA of gun control!
Think of every anti-gun measure you've ever seen proposed at the State or Federal level, and chances are it's here.
But that's not even the most chilling part. Because HR 5717 would require gun owners to obtain a permit from the Government to purchase guns and ammo.
And in order to obtain this "permit," gun owners would be required to submit to a live-fire exercise.
Are you seeing the problem with this requirement?
How can a first-time gun owner submit to a live-fire exercise if they don't have a firearm to use?
The answer is: they can't. The Government isn't going to provide guns and live ammo to first-time gun buyers.
So the only way new gun owners can comply with this legislation is to conduct a live-fire demonstration with a gun they don't have because the Government won't let them buy it.
As written, HR 5717 would END the Second Amendment within a generation.
We are totally flabbergasted by how scary this bill is. But that's not even the most insulting part.
Indeed, in the midst of a national emergency, congress has introduced the most overreaching gun control bill this session... possibly ever.
This bill would CRUSH individual freedom and immediately subjugate all gun owning patriots to the Federal Government.

Yep, the demon-crats will continue to use this crisis to try to get their policies in place even at the expense of saving people.

Look at the bill to try to prop the economy and people up through this crisis, Pelosi has stopped the Senate negations just so they can get federal funding for abortions and other such leftist evils into law. Here's betting the stock market will drop another 500 or so points today just because of the uncertainty.

No, with a digital scanner, you can still monitor them. However, having said that, I have noticed that almost all of the jurisdictions that I can normally pick up in about a 60 mile radius of the house have flip the encrypted switch in the last couple of weeks.

I used to think that was a joke, but after Georgia cancelled ours, it is now a possibility. It still will be a state choice, but then who knows.... It would allow the democrats to hold the house when they are destined to lose it and lose big....

Watch the Democrat Governors to see what they do... that will give us an indication of how things will go.

I listen to my scanners most of the time,
while I am online, and I am listening now,
as I type this post.

A lot of the public services in my AO,
are on the South Carolina Palmetto 800
APCO 25 system. However, my county and the towns
in my county, are still on 460mhz, mostly because
the performance of the 800mhz is not as good,
even though they have talk groups on Palmetto 800.

I takes a lot of towers to run 800mhz, and the audio sucks
in comparison to the 460mhz systems. APCO 25 has an
error rate because it is digital, and if the error rate is high,
the transmission is basically unreadable. I hear it everyday.

The APCO 25 standard, is the result of 911, and the communications
disaster that was apparent during 911. Nobody could talk to anyone,
and there was the need, for the various agencies to be able to
communicate with other agencies, local, state, and federal.
All they need is the system and the talk group.
I have heard talk groups from other states.

Now APCO 25 is everywhere. Most areas are still phase 1,
as my area is, however phase 2 is starting to be installed.
My next scanner will be a phase 2 scanner, as it will also
run DMR, which is starting to be deployed here.

My Uniden digital BCD396T, APCO 25 phase 1 handy scanner,
that I purchased in 2008, when I was doing EMT studies,
is online right now, monitoring the Greenville SC area.
The state highway patrol, Greenville County sheriff’s office,
Greenville PD and fire, EMS and county fire,
all have talk groups on the Palmetto 800 system,
and they are open and in the clear.
Only when a tac talk group goes active, does the scanner
indicate the the talk group is encrypted. The scanner will
make a squealing sound, and then the audio is muted.

I use FreeScan to program the scanner, and to control it virtually.
Right now, I am connected to the windows 8.1 pro tablet
that is running FreeScan, via RDP from my linux mint 19.2 box.

FreeScan has a log, and a virtual remote head display,
so that you can see exactly what the scanner is doing.
I just checked it now, and the Greenville County Sheriff's
warrants division is active. Usually its a sheriffs deputy
going to arrest somebody, for a probation violation,
or calling in checking on a vehicle registration,
and drivers license check.

I have the audio, from the scanner running to a blue tooth
speaker which is sitting on a table, next to my recliner.

My town’s PD just dispatched for a domestic,
and they are on 460mhz, which an analog scanner
will pick up.

There is still lots to listen to, on a scanner.

If you do not have a good scanner, get yourself one, as when everything
finally collapses, you will hear it live on the scanner.
Some tactical talk groups, like vice, are encrypted now,
however 95% is still open and in the clear.

I am looking at the Uniden BCD325P2 as my next scanner,
as it is a APCO 25 phase 2 scanner, and can monitor DMR,
which some counties in my AO are now using.
